I felt like Roger now understands which tactics to use against Benneteau who likes to use a lot of wrong-footing and net charging and lines to feed off pace pretty well. Benneteau did not like dealing with the drop shots and deep groundstrokes into the body nor the serves out wide to his backhand. He is a pesky opponent with his very unpredictable style. He throws all different kinds of returns and serves at an opponent.

You are aware connors played some USOs on grass, so his stats are skewed when you compare them to Federers.

Well, it's the third best generation on grass -

1. Connors/Tanner/Dent
2. McEnroe/Mazur
3. Federer/Hewitt
4. Becker/Cash

How many Grass wins does Roddick have now? I have 83 with his DC wins and Nottingham/Eastbourne/Queens/Wimbledon.

That's pretty good from someone who never won Wimbledon!

This is just for open era, Laver, Rosewall & co. have much more grass wins.

Hewitt has 11 more DC grass wins than RF + pretty similar record in Queens to RF in Halle + some more wins in Halle, Newport, Hertogenbosch (OTOH Federer played only Halle pretty much all his career + few wins in Hertogenbosch).

You should realize that when Connor's began playing grass court tennis there were many more grass events. The Australian Open and the US Open were both grass court events and Connnors won both. Connors' 109 tournament win total is also inflated by circumstances. Early in his career Connors competed against a weak field on the Riordan tour while the great Aussies were playing on Lamar Hunts WCT tour.

Yes, well I don't think Roger has played much grass on DC in Switzerland ;) but for some reason Lleyton never really made noise in Wimbledon after his 2002 win even if it is basically his best surface.

This is a pretty cool vid to watch:

Too bad they never played together on grass again after that.

Yes, and no. Connors owns the record for wins at Wimbledon. Yes, the extra wins help, but Connors is underrated on grass.

The extra grass tournaments are why you see folks like Dent/Mazur/Tanner/Edmonson.

It's rather remarkable that Sampras never cracked the top 10, ever, and prior to Legs and Fed, Becker was the youngest name on the list.

Fed should pass McEnroe next year. Which isn't too shabby considering that he's only played 2 grass tournaments, Halle and Wimbledon.

Well Roger didnt make much noise before his 2003 win either ;) Only 4 wins at SW19 before that tournament. Hewitt made a SF, some QFs and R16 exits after that and every win counts....

JediFed addressed this above. Yes, he did have many more chances, but still, the bulk of Connors's victories came at Wimbledon and Queen's. Connors and Fed are close together if one only considers two tournaments played since Federer plays, usually, two grass tournaments per year.

Connors:

Wimbledon: 84 wins
Queen's: 37 wins

121 wins

Federer:

Wimbledon: 66 wins
Halle: 39 wins

105 wins

McEnroe:

Wimbledon: 59 wins
Queen's: 42 wins

103 wins

Because Fed counts already maximum possible tournaments, so his Doha points will drop off. If both Djok and Fed lose in QFs, Djoko will be the #1.

I think the majority of those who picked Benneteau would vote against Federer even if he played Young. They are not predicting, just making a statement.

Well I wouldn't say Denis has no chance, but I do agree Istomin's footwork and movement speed is a bit perplexing. At first glance, I thought he was a rather tall player because of how he moved around the court, yet he is only listed at about Novak's height

Julien looked mentally injured if anything. Completely gave up after being broken...You'd think this was the one time that the French nationalistic pride would come in handy .

Anyways, Fed played solid, but didn't do anything out of the ordinary (except for the correct challenges ofcourse).
