Kei was a break ahead early in the 1st set, tomic broke back and neither one was able to break the other one again

both tiebreaks really went the same way. Kei got ahead early and held on

Olympic Choke, Tomic had 3 set points in First Set.

Nishikori playing really bad, ridiculous win for the Olympics, but all we know that the japonese will lose in second or third round maybe.

Yay. Nishikori has become worse and worse on grass, I think
But any result removing Tomic is a good one

didn't see the match due to a "wonderful" rainy day and all that schedule mess, but happy for Kei. both spoiled brats (Harrison and Tomic) are out, it's a good thing.

I went to this match and watched the 1st set and the end of the 2nd. It was a bit flat and neither player looked particularly confident or pumped up. I've never been a fan of Tomic up till now but I feel a bit bad for him. He looks a bit lost on court and uncertain of how to turn things around. He was the more inventive player today but he was also the more passive. It really came down to the tie-breaks where Tomic threw in a couple of silly errors while Nishikori raised his game.

The more I see of Nishikori, the more I think he's overrated. He has a tidy, effective game but it's not that impressive. Tomic's game on the other hand is all over the place and he needs to be more aggressive but he seems to be the one with more potential. I know many on here hate Tomic but he behaved fine today (in fact, he could have done with getting more fired up) and he was great with the fans when he was practicing in the morning and even when he left the court after losing, he stopped and posed for a few photos. I know people on here are desperate to hold on to their bitterness and negativity but he really seems to be growing up. ;)

Thanks for the report mate.

It raises a bit my impression of Tomic, which, when i think of it is just a matter of PR from the guy.

He's young and he can't handle the press/media right. If this is his only major flaw then the lad is OK i guess.

As of the result - kinda expected and rather fair overall.

Well, when he says this:

"You can not put into words what it means to win an Olympic gold. It’s like a fifth Grand Slam and it's something where I would give my best, much more than a Grand Slam."

and then he goes out to Nishikori in straights, who isn't really a force on grass, it kinds of make people want to facepalm :p

because it's a tennis forum. In football forums nobody hates him.

Every single player with anykind of popularity has haters. Fans and haters.

As human nature dictates that haters would be eagger to express themselves, rather than fans, you have the subjective vision that players have more haters than fans.

Example - chose a hotel, anywhere in the world. Check the comments and opinions - 70%+ haters and bashers.

I'd never even think about posting a good review for a hotel, as it is expected for them to deliver a good quality of the product and me to have a good time there, for which i paid.

If they fail - ppl bash, if not - ppl have better things to do.

Same for everything.

How i realize this for myself - a TV show was asking - was the ref. of the match X (let's say Barca - Real) bribed to fix the match?

The result they showed from the votes was 80% yes, 20% no.

This ofc made the papers the next day etc. but these 80% were 60 voters (haters).

Anyways, long story short - statistics are a tricky subject. And the "ďmpression" that you have is not actually a firm fact, so surely Tomic has aproximately 6 million times more fans than haters.

Cheers

I don't like what he did in that match but he is a kid and people have to let it go. It's not like he does it all the time.

I have no problem with the way he struts around and the first step to owning the world is to believe that you do. ;)
