The Olympics should've expanded to 128 player draw

This way, nearly every country gets represented and some decent players don't get left out. I think it would be fair to all the players.

What do you think?

yes, that way zopp could have qualified! but also, the olympics are every 4 years. GSs take place 4x a year. why not have a proper draw?

It would have been nice for the players that are coming back from injuries and stuff(like previously high ranked players that are having to miss this olympics).

No and bcs a lot of guys play singles and doubles and some of them may enter mix doubles. And it's not like in GS where you play every other day, here you play every day. It would be too much IMO.

Good point but why do we play everyday?

Olympics, being prestigious as it is, could have been played on a two week schedule, the only difference being that the matches would be best of three. Perfectly possible.

I feel Olympics should aquire a Grand Slam status.
But that's my opinion. Ive always been in favour of Olympic games.

So it's a big yes from me. Should be a two-week field and best of five sets tournament. Would make it way more interesting and prestigious.

Since Wimbledon is moving one week back, I don't see why the calendar couldnt be worked into this direction some time in the distant future. I would love to see the Olympics become a really prestigious event.

I don't think so.

You've posted like a man on a mission and I think its all true. Unconventional thinking but that's how you change things.

Its worthy of being the real '5th slam' - one played every four years.

I don't think so.

And what's your defence?

Bcs ATP has contracts with ATP events and they cant move so many tournaments around. But i agree with you that Olympics should be played over 2 weeks. But look at this year, the tournaments in LA, Washington, Kitzbuhel are ruined and some other tournaments are weaken, and they would have to move Canada, it would be a mess...

exactly the reason above, they would need to make it two weeks which would be too difficult to schedule in. The summer is already packed.

GOATsol would be favourite for the title this year.

is the final still best of 5?

No, thank you! I've seen way too many cringe worthy matches from top-ranked players. The lowest level mug would still be well above me in talent, but I still don't want to watch them.

I'd actually prefer a 32 player draw, but that's just me?

Sham Kay

I'd go for a 16 player draw using group stages like WTF. Max one player per country. Simples.

a lot of people are under the impression that bigger is better

since the grand slams have 128 players and the olympics has been talked about with similar importance, people think it should have 128 players.
but all that does is make scheduling harder

think about this

the tournament in dubai has a higher level of competition than many of the Masters 1000 tournaments and that is only a 32 person draw

imagine if the olympics had a 32 person draw, with few country restrictions

we would not have to wait until the second week for incredible match-ups
we would be seeing them from day 1

for those of you who argue that it takes upsets out of the picture:
the seeds who would have been upset against a lower ranked opponent would probably also get upset by a higher ranked one

Impossible unless you were to make it a two-week event.

I prefer 256 draw.

This. Ya know? Fuck it, let's go with 512 draw!

a 128 draw will see players at 250+ in the event with the 4 player restriction. I rather see a WTT like structure but per country, maybe a 16 or 32 like draw.

No.

Although they could at least do this much. I mean seriously, once in four years and you can't end it with a best of fives?

That way, it would be better than WTF, if not the slams.

I believe the men's finals are best of 5.

According to the document above (official form ITF) it says the format of matches are best of 3 with tie-break only on first 2 sets. And it also says that the final for the men will best of 5, with no tie-break in the 5th set I guess.
