32nd career title, awesome.

His serve is still far from what it once was though, if only he could rewind the years on serve he could have a few more great runs left in him.

Either way, good that he won another title.

Only in tennis can a 29 year old be an "old man".

Well done to Roddick for bouncing back after that shoulder issue in the 1st set, hope he does well in the Olympics.

Muller also will be a dangerous floater.

I reckon it's more akin to Federer's. The competitor in them just refuses to give up - Federer when it comes to slams, Roddick when it comes to coming back from injuries and still giving his best.

I have always respected Roddick and even liked his game when he was aggressive :yeah:.

Roddick has had a very impressive career.

1 Slam + 4 finals and several semis/quarters

#1

32 career titles

Incredible longevity at the top.

A case could be made for him as the second best player of the Federer era, although all things considered Hewitt probably edges it.

Hope Roddick can somehow roll back the years on serve and have a late career surge.

anyways congrats to A Rod and his fans. I always liked his never give up mentality. If he hadn't won these 2 titles and continued to fall down the rankings I thought he might have called it a day after the US Open but I hope he will believe in himself now and continue for some more years to come.

Tom Paulman
07-22-2012, 11:07 PM
Everyone here praises Roddick, but it was really a Muller choke. In the 2nd set, Muller was the better player except for the last service game in which he's saved 4 SP's. Muller was returning better, at least 3 Roddick's service games in the 2nd set went to deuce while Muller was losing only one or two points in his service games and was in control of the match. Then in the tie-break, Muller completely choked - double faulted and ridiculously missed a couple of strokes. I'm afraid this was his last chance to win a title. What a shame.

mooncreek
07-22-2012, 11:15 PM
Muller really only has himself to blame for that second set tiebreak. Once that was over, the result wasn't in doubt.

Title at Eastbourne, battle against Ferrer at Wimbledon, now another title. Nice run just in time for the Olympics.

Was he milking it after the Wimbledon final 2009 when he didn't cry out of respect for the crowd?? Unlike another guy I know that cried...he's a Scottish pusher...what's his name? Mugray?

Roddick is a champion. You can hate but the guy has heart and the confidence to go for his shots which is why he won a slam and Murray never will.

Wha-what!? That's because it was a retarded thing to say by Fed. That's like a billionare telling a middle class citizen that they know what it's like to lose a couple hundred thousand. Fed already had a legacy as the GOAT, he was just adding to it. That win would have defined Andy Roddick career. You can't even compare it.

Roddick is way more respectful in defeat than Fed or Mugray. Andy is confident and competitive he has the will to win, always has...in his losses to Fed in 04, 06 and 09 he played the right game.. put himself in position to win even though he was out classed talent wise. Murray doesn't know how to even compete on the big state...let alone not poop his pants when things go wrong. Also again, Roddick doesn't cry when he loses a grand slam final...only when he wins one. ;)

Watch the youtube of the 2009 Wimbledon semi-final, Roddick v. Murray...you'll see what I mean. One player believes and plays 100% and the other shrivels.

Murray is a panzy, c'mon really? Can you compare the two? Roddick is a champion able to overcome better talent and bad luck. Murray couldn't hit his way out of a paper bag. Go back to Nevergonnawinagrandslamville. So sad :sad::sad::sad:

Roddick's got 128 slam wins to Murray's 93.

Say what you will, the American Andy's had the better career. More titles, more finals, more wins. Muezza has a fair ways to go before his career will be as good as Roddick's.

And that's really not something to be ashamed of. Everyone ahead of him has 4+ slams, save Hewitt, and he's not far off Hewitt. American Andy did reach world number one, etc.

Roddick has split major meetings with three of the top four guys in Murray, Nadal, and Djokovic, and this isn't even his real career? zomg, imagine if he actually invested in it!

All the nonsense aside, congratulations to Roddick. 32 @ 29 is pretty impressive. With a win over John Isner along the way, this is a pretty nice addition to his career.

That said, it was a pretty ugly performance for the better part of two sets, and Stefanki's coaching concerns me. Why in your right mind would you tell a guy to stand back on a second serve against a guy with a propensity for serving-and-volleying? It's like you want to facilitate their trip to the net...

Thankfully, Roddick hashed that strategy some time during the match and managed to dig out the win.
