Tomic will reach top 10 in 2013.

And stay there for a decade, reaching number 1 of course at some point.

He is perfecting his unorthodox game now, which will be tough to overcome by both attacking and defensive players.

He's not afraid of surfaces he should suck on, he's tackling them and he's willing to learn, it's a sign of surprising maturity. He eyes long term development, but he should be top 10-ready next year already. OK, February 2014 at the latest after solid home ground performances.

He's got a swagger of a champion now and he will have a mind of a champion soon.

He's got a swagger like jagger that's for sure. I too think he is destined for greatness. I just hope he ditches senior and finds a new coach soon.

I hope he swallows some of that arrogance, he needs to. I actually do want to see him succeed but I want him to work very hard for it over many years. I'd hate for him to zoom into the top 10 too easily, it won't do his ego any favours... he needs struggle to become more humble.

Why does he have to be humble ? I wasn't aware of that being a prerequisite to greatness

I never said anything of the sort. What I was alluding to was that a lot of people (including myself) prefer players with a positive persona which helps us to get behind and support that player.

Why do you think Tomic is one of the most hated youngsters out there? Most people need good tennis + good personality before they are willing to support that player. Being humble is a positive trait, arrogance isn't. You could be the best player in the world, but if you're a complete wanker then far fewer people care.

How this is relevant to the OP is that I don't think Tomic will become a top 10 player as early as next year because mentally he needs to mature. His ego is up in the clouds, not surprisingly clouding his judgement. He's too young emotionally... selling his fluro orange Beemer isn't enough. Tough talking teenager is just that... talk.

the problem is he'll never reach his peak :p. No, he will not reach top 10 in 2013 ... doubt it. He is a spoiled brat, and one of very few players on the tour I really dislike for all kinda different reasons.

Leng, did he really say he was going to be #1 by the end of 2012? Was he joking or you are just being a smart a$$ as usual (you know I love your style tho )?

the tour is desperate for new players to mature and make it competitive for the ruling class but i don't see it happening with tomic. he packs a good forehand but his movement is still dreadful to watch and i don't think it will be improving any time soon.

That right there is the word. Desperate indeed. When I was watching Dimugtrov clown away a TB on Saturday against Belucci for a good chance at his first ATP 250 title, I looked at the rankings and nearly all of the "young guns" are around 50th in the rankings now - Tomic, Dimitrov, Harrison.

It's only really Raonic who, with his powerful serve, who sort of represents the young generation in the third echelon of the seeded players. Quite sad, really.

At the moment, there is nothing to separate Tomic from most others in the top 100. So why would he reach top 10 next year? Because he is young? I for one won't trust in any supposed "progress" he says he's made, not before I see it first hand. And right now I don't expect Tomic to do much damage next year. He may cause an upset or two at most.

Tomic has the big self-belief of a champion for sure but it takes more to actually BECOME a champion than a cocky attitude.

Asadinator
07-23-2012, 02:11 AM
I never imagined Tomic to be a Top 10 player even on the best of days. His consistency and effort has always been horrible.

But I can see him getting some upsets and winning a GS, and getting to Top 10 for a short while.

jcempire
07-23-2012, 02:37 AM
Tomic maybe only young guy who have a real chance to be Next No 1 after Djoker. but not next year

maybe 2016. Tomic will be world No 1.
by that time Nadal would be over 30 and Djoker would be almost 29
