Gstaad QF: Dimitrov beats Kubot 6-3, 6-2

Dimitrov played much better than he did against Brown. He displayed some stellar shot-making in this match. Kubot did not pose any threat and self-disintegrated in the second set. The result was NID.

Good job on making another SF, Grisha! Go for the title! :yeah:

Hopefully he keeps this up in the Semi Final, Kubot wasn't much of a challenge.

I hope for a better stream. First time seeing Dimitrov play, liked what I saw.

Kubot  He played good so far, no idea what to think about this.

Couldn't watch the match but it's great to see him in another SF. Winning 5 games in a row shows how much his concentration has improved in recent months. I always expected him to beat a player like Kubot but the ease of the scoreline impressed me.

if you only watch Dimitrov from the side, his shots are so similar to Federer's. I thought it was only a hype because of the one-handed backhand but he really resembles RF. I hope he achieves 10% of what RF has done.

The recent consistency is encouraging, hope it continues. . .

If he wins his next match, he should get a career-high ranking and be in the top 50 for the first time. Tough proposition though.

I guess most tennis player would die for 10% of RFs resume...

He's playing Belucci next who seems to be playing well himself. Will be hard to beat a topspin FH lefty on clay with his BH. I hope he does it though and hopefully I'll be able to watch this one.

He always has all the shots
ALthough he does show some improvement in footwork and movement, it will never come close to a Federer in his thirty.

Good to see him being consistent, but until he proves that he is not only nice to watch and good at pretending to be Federer, but also has a brain and knows what he does on the court, I'm not excited by his progress.

3 semies in his last 4 tournaments kinda confirms he " has a brain and knows what he does on the court"..

Of course you will need to watch him first, but that's only if anyone needs you to be excited by his progress, which hardly could be the case..

Anyways, very solid tennis from Dimitrov, never let any shadow of a doubt what was it going to be. Kubot's style is somehow convenient for Grigor, his shalow BH slice returns are enough to trouble a rushing at the net player and then execute him after the volley or demi-volley, but it will be a whole different game against Bellucci.

I rate the Brasilian favorit in this semi final and i hope Grigor's improvement in the concentration and decision making departments will help him take the best of the chances he will surely create for himself.

0-2 H2H, none on clay and clay is the Brasilian's best surface, so i'm curious what it's gonna be.

I expect a long, tight 3 setter and either Grigor's improved concentration and self esteem will make it for him, or his shaky still physical shape and stamina will make it for the lefty.

Has to be entertaining anyway, so GL Grisho

He needs to serve consistently in the next match, if he gets over 70% first serves he has a good chance to go the distance - but if he struggles to find his serve it would be a very difficult match for him to win. At least after the difficult match he had against Brown - he was able to have a bit of a breather against Kubot.

Really liked what I saw against Brown in the tie break that type of concentration is needed all the time from Grigor if he is to win a tournament

Grigor is finally moving in the right direction :yeah: That coaching change is paying off big time, IMO.

Good luck against Bellucci, let's make this final FINALLY!

Given the match is on clay, Belucci is the favourite as it's his best surface but I'm picking Grigor to win tomorrow. His game seems to be coming together nicely and he is learning to handle the pressure situations. He needs to serve well, play aggressively and not waste any chances he gets.

It's a good test for him to see where his game is at and what he needs to work on to continue improving.
