Will Nadal win a non-clay GS again?

Between his personal problems and the tour players being progressively less scared of nadal, I think this might be a tricky question to answer. Even RG, his favourite GS, could be at doubt.

What do you think?

Uncle Abraxas with an over discussed thread again. Sounds boring.

The threads you create are a whole lot better right?

Eitehr way, I think Rafa can take one at Australia. US Open might be a bit of a stretch while Wimbledon will always be a good one for him in general, but really, this type of question will be best answered after the US Open so we can see if there is a pattern happening or if this is just one of those low periods like he has had several times in the past.

I think for me the more interesting question is if Nadal will ever defend a non-clay title. I mean just from the top of my head, Indian Wells, Wimbledon and Canada are the only 3 non-clay events he has won more than once.

He would have won the last 2 HC slams if he didn't face a guy named Djokovic in finals. Rafa certainly has a chance to add 1 or 2 HC slams if he aviods Nole in the HC slams.

Hard to say actually, I wrote him off on non-clay surfaces in 2009 and he won Wimbledon and US Open next year.
That being said, Nadal hasn't succeed on hard court basically since IW 2009 with a small interval for USO 2010.

A guy who prior to the last slam reached 6 consecutive GS finals . .

Yeah, he's done.

Many ppl said this after every slam he won in the last few years yet he keeps proving them wrong. Some ppl will never learn it seems. Writting players like Fed and Rafa off is foolish to say the least.

Bro I think you need to relearn how to count.. Just like your "4 channel slams" mistake, 5 consecutive GS finals isn't 6. FO > Wimbledon > USO > AO > FO, I see 5 there

I think he has a very good shot at the AO. He can get treatment rest and prepare in the of season.

He should have more good chances at the Australian Open and Wimbledon.

The USO hardcourts might be too fast for him, though.

I think he has one more non-clay slam in him. Should he stay healthy and motivated, he could win more though.

Almost certainly yes, probably 2 or 3. He won 4 such titles already and is just 26. He's not going anywhere.

One Wimbadann, one AO.

I can imagine him winning 3 more RG (Or more).

He's only 26. Let's see how his knees are in the next few months.
People wrote Fed off, at age 30. Nadal is only 26... it'd be ridiculous if he never won another slam off clay.
Then again, things change quickly. Maybe Muzz 3.0 will find a forehand ;)

yeah he will of course. you guys are such clowns, he was in an intense battle at last US OPEN and points away from winning the Australian Open.

total clowns acting like resigning from the Olympics, as sad as that is, equals his career ending

AO 2013 is his, book it.

USO will come too soon, 2013 will be time to strike back.

Also, even RG is in doubt???? Excuse me, didn't he struggle to lose games last clay season? Didn't he lose just 1 set to Novak on a court in full rain, which had nothing to do with clay tennis anymore? When it was normal, he butchered everyone. There are no signs that suggest he's struggeling on clay.

He's getting older and he hasn't won a hardcourt event since Tokyo 2010, which was a few weeks after the 2010 USO. I expect that eventually the younger promising guys will be able to hit/serve him off of hardcourts. Maybe if Nadal gets a nice weak draw he could win another hardcourt slam, but that's his only chance

I find it unfathomable why anyone would want just two players winning slams for an eternity unless you're a greedy glory hunter who wants all the pie for himself.

The question is whether he will win any non-clay event again. He hasn't won one since Tokyo in 2010 :o

He was in 3 out of 4 non-clay finals of GS and only Djokovic beated him, Djokovic didn't win last 2 GS, so for sure he can win another one. He can do it straight at the US Open.

Yep. :yeah:

As for the original topic, Nadal will have to take his chances when they come, i.e. certain other top players bolting out early, good draw, etc.
Not unlike Fed being able to take his GS #17.

Pretty sure Nadal's chances will come as they did to Fed.

Mimi, my beloved gf :), don't be so negative ... Rafa has managed to bounce back so many times in his career ... remember 2009, I thought he was done, yet he came back and won 3 majors in 2010 ... be brave and believe ;)

How many threads like this do we need? We're just getting warmed up. And, if they bother you so much, you might try the novel and unique tactic of not reading them. Btw, BP dropping out the Olympics-you know, where the Dope Dicks are a leeeeeeetle more diligent than those in tennis-is something I never would've guessed in 100 years...:(

He had at least another 3 slams in him, maybe two at RG, but I can see him nabbing at least one outside of Paris.
Write Nadal off at your own peril.
