Gstaad R2: Gulbis beats Paire 5-7, 7-6(3), 6-4rinnegan 07-18-2012, 01:43 PM Ernie wins back-to-back matches for the first time since February. :p misty1 07-18-2012, 01:46 PM :hysteric:ernie very mentally strong from ernests to save 15/17 break points against him Slade 07-18-2012, 01:46 PM Some clutch play from Gulbis, saving those BPs. Also served very well Thank you Paire for taking out Tomug in the last round. :D MuzzahLovah 07-18-2012, 01:46 PM  Paire had 0-40 to break at 5-5 in the second. superandy88 07-18-2012, 01:47 PM Paire was the best player for the whole match, but the break point conversion was atrociuos. 2/3 for Gulbis, 2/17 for Benoit. Really lucky Gulbis with netcords and half-lines though. MuzzahLovah 07-18-2012, 01:47 PM :hysteric:ernie very mentally strong from ernests to save 15/17 break points against him A disaster from Paire though. UsD.AnDreS 07-18-2012, 01:47 PM 2 matches in a row, wow... Some serious rising out there from Gulbis rocketassist 07-18-2012, 01:48 PM Another well fought win :yeah: Two down, three to go. tuek 07-18-2012, 01:54 PM These guys are very similar players, really. I like Paire, he is super talented, but he also suffers from the same mental implosions that Gulbis does. If anyone can't take advantage of Ernests's lapses in concentration, it's Benoit. As for Ernests, he really needs to work on consolidating after he breaks serve. Was down 0-40 multiple times, and the fact that he was still able to hold in those games was not a good look for Benoit. Gulbis served pretty well, though - that was key for him. abraxas21 07-18-2012, 01:55 PM the swedish girls must be giving gulbis a much needed boost misty1 07-18-2012, 01:56 PM he's in switzerland Deathless Mortal 07-18-2012, 01:58 PM the swedish girls must be giving gulbis a much needed boost What are the Swedish girls doing in Switzerland? Jverweij 07-18-2012, 01:58 PM good win for Ernests. I'm having a hard time believing he served well though, with 17 BP's against. delboy 07-18-2012, 02:02 PM Very lucky win for Gulbis but happy he got it done anyway. -Evita- 07-18-2012, 02:03 PM the swedish girls must be giving gulbis a much needed boost He's stated in several interviews that he will never go back to Sweden after how he was treated there. CooCooCachoo 07-18-2012, 02:04 PM WTF Benoît, losing to Gulbis on clay :help: But at least the Latvian is showing some ability to win matches again. The Berdych scalp was not just an isolated event. CooCooCachoo 07-18-2012, 02:10 PM He's stated in several interviews that he will never go back to Sweden after how he was treated there. What happened? duong 07-18-2012, 02:11 PM I didn't have a good impression about Gulbis-Verdasco last week, and the score gives the same impression : saving breakpoints, 6 less points than your opponent, great serving. Last week, the first service games against Verdasco were all the same : deuce easy-error, ad-Verdasco ace or great serve, etc ... I expected better from Gulbis after his match against Berdych in Wimbledon, I don't think he will go far if he plays like that. It can win a match but not many ones. nole_no1 07-18-2012, 02:12 PM Gulbis won two matches in a row  WTF Benoît, losing to Gulbis on clay :help: He can play very well on clay and Benoit can lose to anyone BroTree123 07-18-2012, 02:12 PM Great news for tennis. Chase Visa 07-18-2012, 02:14 PM Ernie fought a win? What sort of alternate universe is this? rocketassist 07-18-2012, 02:24 PM WTF Benoît, losing to Gulbis on clay :help: But at least the Latvian is showing some ability to win matches again. The Berdych scalp was not just an isolated event. Federer's lost to him on clay before :D -Evita- 07-18-2012, 02:35 PM What happened? He was arrested and thrown in jail overnight for soliciting prostitutes. He's a guy who can find humor in any situation so he was able to joke about it later but, well, he thought it was unfair since he didn't know the girls he was with were prostitutes. He paid a fine and was let out in time for his match the next day but he lost it, of course, and then he swore never to come back to Sweden. That happened several years back. I just knew it had something to do with prostitutes :haha: Atko 07-18-2012, 02:47 PM Another dreadful result for Paire. Dustin Brown last week, and now Gulbis here. Reckon we might actually be seeing another "Gulbis" in the Frenchman - supremely talented but mindless when it comes to rally construction and keeping his cool. He's got time to fix those obvious failings but they are nasty habits to get into. Zelyony 07-18-2012, 03:40 PM Paire should win a title soon. philosophicalarf 07-18-2012, 04:13 PM I didn't have a good impression about Gulbis-Verdasco last week, and the score gives the same impression : saving breakpoints, 6 less points than your opponent, great serving. Yeah, I'm following a similar line of thought. Umag was very, very hot when he played Verdasco though - I think he'd basically just decided he couldn't cope physically, and he had to swing for a winner every shot. Gstaad he's showed decent fight at least, if more than a bit wayward. Could easily have lost to Volandri if his attitude was worse, and even more so today. Hypnotize 07-18-2012, 04:23 PM One talented basketcase beats another talented basketcase. Both these guys are better than their rankings but they lack the discipline to improve their games. As crazy as it sounds, Gulbis was the one with the better gameplan today although even then, he didn't have much of one. Paire didn't seem to know what he was doing. Hypnotize 07-18-2012, 04:26 PM the swedish girls must be giving gulbis a much needed boost That would have been funny if they were in Bastad Sweden. Sadly they are in Gstaad Switzerland so it wasn't. sexybeast 07-18-2012, 04:37 PM He's stated in several interviews that he will never go back to Sweden after how he was treated there. Billionaire pretty boy Gulbis driving around looking for cheap street whores in Sweden.... He should let Almagro be his wing man and show him how to do it the proper way... http://pics.nattstad.se/3/800000/740000/734558/pics/201271522211300734558_sbig.jpg :worship: Corey Feldman 07-18-2012, 05:21 PM congrats Gulbitoiatis Sombrerero loco 07-18-2012, 05:23 PM ernie  keep winning!! misty1 07-18-2012, 05:28 PM One talented basketcase beats another talented basketcase. Super-interesting ..." http://www.welovetennis.fr/atp-gstaad/52878-paire-du-tir-aux-pigeons Looks like Gulbis played quite the same way as against Verdasco  | |
