Atlanta R1: Blake def. Harrison 1-6, 6-3, 7-5

The aggressor won the match. Harrison played too passively, and paid the price. Add a couple lucky let cords for James, and Ryan was finished. He needs to change his tactics or he'll just be a floater.

I get it now, Ryan doesn't need a coach, he needs a Fengshui expert, lol.

James, let's get another one?

James could use as many wins as possible. I hope he gets his ranking up again, Enough to have a chance at a final good US Open moment.

How was Blake's health?

tennisfan856

Not the greatest movement, backhand was pretty weak, but the forehand showed flashes of 5 years ago but with some peppered errors.

It was really about Ryan just camping 10 feet behind the baseline and feeding Blake forehands to crush. Let's just say I'm not really optimistic for James moving forward.

I stopped watching after Ryan raced through the first set, confident Ryan would hold it together and finished the match. Jesus! This is really, really disappointing. Ryan needs to get his ranking up so he stops facing Djokovic and Murray first round. What the fuck happened?

That's my exact feelings to a tee when my second American Donald Young beat Russell in the 1st set last week. Now It's close to that point again where I have no American favorite to root for when Blake retires

At least one American losing streak is broken. Blake was on a 7 match tour level losing streak.

But there's still Young with 14 and Bogomolov with 5.

I was watching an interview with Ryan where he said grass was his favourite surface because he has an aggressive game and I just thought, "you wish"! He has to learn to step inside the baseline and go for his shots more.

30 year olds beating youngsters. If Roger manages to play 5 or 6 more years he'll only have to worry with nadal and djokovic.

youngsters/new generation

Flake is a pretty good player when the forehand goes in.

Harrison will never have the ability to play within the baseline. If a player doesn't learn to take the ball early at a young age faulty footwork becomes permanently ingrained. Harrison's future promises only frustration and anger. It looks like the USA will never have players like Connors, McEnroe and Agassi in the future.

Man I thought Blake had retired. Can't believe he's still going at it. Must love the sport.

Bad loss for Ryan, he has a long way to go.

I saw a bit of Christian Harrison's match tonight and he seems a bit more willing to take on the ball than Ryan. He wasn't amazing and he needs to put on more size but he did show some signs of promise.
