Which of the following players over does it with the slice?

I will put up a poll in a short moment. I'm talking about guys who endlessly employ the slice and never actually hit the damn ball.

I don't think Lopez and Karlovic should be on the poll - clearly, they have to slice to stay in the rally, otherwise they shank every second BH.

I find it disgusting to watch Tomic and Petzschner, who can hit solid BHs, refuse to move away from slicing almost every time.

NOOOOOOO! Santoro used slice a lot yes, but he didn't use it in the same boring neutralizing way that 99% of players who slice their backhand use. He used his slice for amazing defense, and not just to neutralize the point. I seriously don't know how anyone could dislike Santoro's style...

The only player I really think plays the slice poorly and a bit too much is actually Karlovic. Look, he isn't going to win a lot of long exchanges, so why doesn't he take a rip at more balls here and there..

As for the rest of the players, it is part of their game. Federer uses it quite a lot to great effect, Petzschner has a solid slice, Dolgopolov has an interesting one, etc. While sometimes they do make a poor shot selection and use the slice, it isn't any different from other poor choices players make with other shots, so no I don't think any of the other players you have listed particularly use the slice too much or really poorly except for Ivo.

Karlovic should be slicing as an approach. The best place for him is at the net where he can use his touch and awesome reach

Gonzalez, Petzschner, Karlovic, Federer (as of late)...Federer? No, no. His topspin backhand isn't as reliable these days so he needs his slice badly. He used it perfectly in Wimbledon I thought. He could use it even more, as an offensive shot.

Gonzalez, Feli and Petz overuse it, but that's because their topspin bh are too erratic.

Rusedski used it all the time but that's cause he had no topspin backhand.

Don't think Lopez should be in here too, it's because his backhand is actually a slice backhand, many have said its the one of the most horrible one-handed backhand.

Otherwise it would be Djokovic, he almost never uses it but when he does slice, it is a crime against the laws of tennis aesthetics.

Karlovic. He's got bad movement so he might as well drive his backhand - however badly he does it - so he can look to conclude points quickly.

In the modern game you only really see the slice being used as a defensive shot, which colours some peoples views here. It can also be an offensive shot, as an approach.

Chip and charge is really fun for me when I play.

i wish i can slice more, my slice is very effective but on a real match i have a tendency to ball bash, but my fave slice is the bh slice down the line and follow to the net

Surprised Florian Mayer isn't on the list. I can't even remember Nishikori slicing (then again, he hasn't played much lately).

Of the list, Petzschner only really has the slice and Tomic slices more when he's losing.
