What Is Your Least Favorite ATP 500 Event?

Now that Hamburg has come around with it's mediocre field, I began to ponder what ATP 500 event that is my least favorite. Then I checked if anyone has asked this question before, and I couldn't find anything. So have at it, what is your least favorite ATP 500 event? Mine is Acapulco personally.

Acapulco. Should be demoted to Challenger status.

 I just realized that the Hamburg qualy draw is only a 16 draw. I know the main draw used to be 64, but this year it's 32. So the draw altogether is smaller than Atlanta and Gstaad, so why is it a 500??

Washington, D.C.

This year Washington has a good reason for the lousy draw but last year was rather weak.

Then Mexicans are not happy with most of this forum, bcs nobody likes Mugapulco which is in the same week as the strongest 500 tourney and have a week 250 draw. There are many 250s with stronger draws than Mugapulco. And you just know it will be Ferrer who wins it. In close 2nd comes Memphis and in 3rd Washington. The rest of the tournaments are fine.

Beijing, I just don't like those Asian tournaments. Neither I like Dubai, but Beijing has weaker field.

Hard to tell, objecticavely it should be probably Memphis, but i personally like it - one of faster tournaments out there, but generally crap players and no Hawk-eye before this year.

Dubai only haters can put there, because generally it has best player thanks to money

Among clay 500s Barca is easily best with many top player playing there + Rafa always only 2010 he skipped

Hamburg was elevated from 1000 to 500 and in bad time of year, so they have problems to get top players, but i still like it so from clay 500s Acapulco is worst for me.

Beijing-Tokyo are good events, but than from duo Basel-Valencia i would easily pick Valencia is not good tournament, it is not their problem Basel has Federer and DJokoci always so that makes them ,,prestigious,, comparing to Valencia, which is really weird indoor HC- very slow in ESP.

Than WASH and ROTT are good turnaments - average 500s nothing extra, but nothing bad so i would say worst from my perspective are Acapulco and Valencia

Acapulco is best of those Latin American tournaments but simply no top players are playing there and than when somebody like Ferrer -Almagro are there you knew who is going to win or be in F.

Valencia - just slow indoor HC in time of the year when no top player will play there and if somebody decieds to play he will go to Basel which is the same week.

It has to be Barcelona

Considering Acapulco has excellent crowds and not just for the finals something Beijing will never do.

Memphis and Washington at least have been established on tour since the 70s, unlike hey lets give China all these big events that no one shows up to. The crowds at Shanghai and Beijing are like most of the posters on GM gloryhunters, your second sentence points that out :)

Chirag
07-16-2012, 01:34 PM
I thought Beijing got the crowds in unlike Shanghai which is empty for the whole week .I think the only time Shanghai got crowds was when Federer played in 2010 :o Thats not the case with Beijing which was almost full for a Berdych-Monfils match

Memphis or Washington you could easily die of boredom watching those two get my vote. Not watched Acapulco for a while but there have at least been some entertaining matches particulary when Stoner used to play there and like most of those latin american tournies no matter what the level the crowd is always into it.

Washington is not a bad tournament. The grounds and facilities are really nice, and the crowd is large. There are never empty stands. The field isn't good this year because of the Olympics.

The crowd at Beijing is pathetic. The only reason DC will never have a great field is its position in the calendar. It seems that the majority of the good players in the world are European, and it's too soon for many players to come over to North America for such a long time.

Memphis or DC to 250, these two tournament are by Field worse than Sunrise challenger (between IW and Miami)... Just shows how pathetic US tennis is at the moment...
Acapulco deserves to stay 500 it's a cool place with great weather and a solid venue...

If Belgrade was a 500 i would vote for it, coz i prefer fast courts overall.

I hate private tournaments.

Whenever they make Manacor Open 500 event i will hate it as much as those 2.

Beijing because it clashes with one of my favourite 500s, Tokyo, and vultures players from there. And two too big stadium courts make it even more pathetic.
