Rules

Every day an OOP taken from different Olympic events taking place at the London Olympics will be posted for the TT players. TT players have to send the winning team / player for each match.

Sports that will be willing to be in the OOP are:

Archery, Athletics (special H-2-H), Badminton, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Cycling (special H-2-H), Fencing, Football, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Swimming (special H-2-H), Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Water Polo and Wrestling.

These sports are picked because they have a Head to head format and it is easier to pick a winner. The Special H-2-H) will consist in the game organizers putting 2 names head to head in a race and, the one that gets to the finish line before, wins.

For example, an OOP could be like this:

(Archery) PLAYER A vs. PLAYER B
(Badminton) PLAYER C vs. PLAYER D
(Basketball) TEAM A vs. TEAM B

As there are many events and many matches per event, OOPs will be big enough to make some differences.

Initially there will be 8 groups of 8 players each who will play once against each other, so the minimum number of matches played will be 7. We can readapt the number of teams in each group if there are less players. The first 4 will go through to the knockout stages.

Each Player recieves 3 points per win and 1 point per draw.

If in the final group standings there is a draw, we must apply the following tie-break rule:

- Count the total points between the tied contestants. If there are two contestants, the score of their match will decide who is first.
- If still tied, count the correct picks between tied contestants. The one with more correct picks, wins.
- If still tied, count the overall correct picks. The one with more correct picks, wins.
- If still tied, the player with more wins, wins.
- If still tied, ranking will decide.

If in the knockout stages there is a draw, we must apply the following criteria:

- In the knockout stage there will be SRs to have a tie-breaker in a single match. These SRs will be explained depending of the sport.
- If SRs don't untie things, count the correct picks in each previous round until the group stage is reached. For example, if a player draws in QF, correct picks from the 1/8 finals will be compared. If tied, correct picks from 1/8 finals will be compared. If tied, correct picks from the 1/16 finals will be compared and so on. This is something like Countback in TT.
- If still tied, ranking will decide.

AdeyC
07-08-2012, 09:19 PM
Welcome to our Olympic 2012 TT event. Following Sergio’s excellent idea for a Euro 2012 game last month, he’s done it again and come up with another good idea for a TT game, this time for the Olympics – he asked me if I’d co:host this event with him.

As I am sure everyone knows - Portugal is England’s oldest ally. The Anglo-Portuguese Treaty signed in 1373 is still in force, and as such England's Adey & Portugal's Sergio are carrying on this fine tradition and we present... live and exclusive to all TT fans... THE TT OLYMPIC GAMES EVENT (without tennis)", so how could I refuse such a request. So please join in the fun, we’ll also be doing interviews for this event - we both look forward to welcoming you all.

As this is a fun event for people to get to know each other more - the doubles will be done the same as in the Euro - and teams will be picked using random.org

This is not a ranking event - it's just for fun - and you can play in your normal TT tennis event the same week

You can now commit :wavey:

Yes, that means there are initially only 18 spots left!!!

Great to see so many people play, it's going to be fun to see some biting their nails for a archery match between a Korean and a Ukranian. :haha:

Adrian, you've chosen sports?

I'm not exactly sure what you mean. But if you mean which events are we going to use - it will be from these :-

Sports that will be willing to be in the OOP are:

Archery, Athletics (special H-2-H), Badminton, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Boxing, Cycling (special H-2-H), Fencing, Football, Handball, Hockey, Judo, Swimming (special H-2-H), Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball, Water Polo and Wrestling.

Rowing or canoeing are not head-to-head sports, that's why we didn't include it, but we can do some special H2H match between two contestants.

We'll see as the daily schedules come out.

OOPs will depend on the daily schedule and will be defined by Adey and me. There won't be an OOP you can just look at in the Olympics web site, you'll have to check the OOP in this thread.

Hope this is the answer you were looking for. :wavey:

And as we both had input into the questions asked we both decided that we'd answer ourselves too :). Although no prizes for guessing who's is the last question.

We've had a discussion, and due to public demand - as the events used are all going to be non-tennis, we've decided to put the tennis element into it by making the groups all tennis medal winners

Nadal
Stich
Woodbridge
Kafelnikov
Federer
Agassi
Rosset
Mecir
Massu
Woodforde
Becker
Wawrinka

Also, we're working on what is an exciting first ever for a TT event - we're just making sure it'll work OK beforehand.

So stay tuned for the announcement in the next day or two.

So, there is a vacant that can be filled by anyone who wants to apply until deadline. If not, Broseghini's singles and doubles groups will have one participant less. Sorry Forever-Delayed.

That's two good ideas there. That chat-room is still set-up, Sergio was saying that it's there forever. I'm not sure if it's literally forever :) but as it's now been set up it can be used for the rest of the Olympics.

Also the weekly TT Chat I think is a great idea as well. I don't know how easy it is to do as Sergio is the technical expert here but once the Olympics are over I am sure it can't be that difficult to change the set up and the name of the room. And it could then be used for other things, such as the weekly chats you suggest.

Well, yesterday when I said 'forever', I'd already drunk some Martinis and danced the Macarena some 3 or 4 times, so maybe I just exagerated.

I opened the chat room some days ago and I remember it said it would be open one month, but I'm not sure. I can't access the page now cause I'm at work, but I'll try to find out this weekend. And it's easy to change the room name.

True, but this isn't a Men's Tennis Event. Bah. I disagree with this position, but I know from captaining the women's team many times in the battle of the sexes that there just aren't enough of us to make a big enough deal about it

It's the Olympic Games Special, not the Men's Olympic Games Special. Just because we tip men's tennis doesn't mean we only want to tip men's swimming, mens archery, men's whatever.

That's my two cents

I suppose I would have to play WTA TT if I wanted to tip women's swimming  They aren't the same thing and my opinion shouldn't be treated as such. I don't think just because we like men's tennis we have a lack of interest in women's olympic sports. If we're not tipping tennis in this event, then why would it matter if this is a men's tennis forum.

I don't think TT-ers are sexist, so I'm sure that's not the reason  But I just.... wanted to state my disapproval of this policy :)

Now to research my picks

For swimming I think there is a B Final. So if both fail to qualify for the A Final, are you taking the B final time or the heat time?

Yes, and Final A > Final B.

Yes, we don't want any traumas here. ;)

This is an event for everyone, so your opinion is important to us and we will make it a mixed event. :wavey:

To redress the balance we will make tomorrows OOP all womens events - and then after that it will be 50/50 each day.
