He was finishing out his college career. And I don't think Thacher will play professionally at all.

How can Berankis be playing this? He wasn't in the EL.
It says alternate to his name, but he can't be seeded then. Or was it a left-over WC?

I'm not sure how exactly it worked, but be replaced Rajeev Ram (who withdrew too late, I guess)
And I don't see the reason why alts can't be seeded if they get in before the draw is released.

But for being an alternate, he has to be an alternate on the entry list right? And he wasn't.
And if Ram withdrew too late, it should have been a LL.

Or maybe they couldn't find a LL and asked him?
Strange situation, because he wasn't in the EL at all.

I agree, it was strange for me too... He said that he will play qualies. However, when the qualies draw was released I didn't find him there, but then I read on Twitter that he got in the MD because Ram Rajeev withdrew.

You are right, my memory messed up entirely. (Not aided by the fact that Kendrick wasn't there, as far as I could tell, during Ryan's Q3 match against Torebko. Or he was very, very quiet.)

No worries my friend we all make mistakes haha! Maybe since Robert found some form in Nottingham, maybe he's ditched Ryan to revive his own career and give it one more shot! Maybe he is still coaching him but not to the degree of travelling around to the tournaments Ryan wants to play

Thanks. I agree that Alex has a lot of potential and it looks like he might stay in school for another year .

However, I like Chase's game the most. He kinda reminds me a little of Brian Baker from the baseline (dictating points with good ballstriking and great backhand).I probably don't follow tennis as long as you, but I wonder why he decided to go to college (his junior resume seems the most impressive out of this group and he had sucess on the pro circuit as a junior winning his lst title at aged 16)?

Williams also showed himself from a good side already

Well to be fair, they both turned pro since last year and have been playing regularly on the pro circuit whereas Buchanan just graduated and Domijan still plays with an amateur tag during school breaks. I expect Buchanan to rise in the ranking (already won a title in his first tournament since graduation and really is undefeated so far except for that one loss due to withdrawal; probably jinx him now ).

Honestly, I hope they all do well :p.

I have questions about Domijan's desire as well. He does not give the best effort when the going gets tough. Seems to be a quitter at heart.

, does Buchanan have the same issue?

Well Buchanana has really stepped it up in the last few months. I would have said yes not long ago. Chase used to fade in big matches as well and not have the will to impose his game vs players ranked above him even if he was more talented. But it looks like he is changing that.

Yep. On a good day he is very tough to beat. Probably that plus Rhyne is mental when things aren't going his way.

Then it's even worse, losing a set to a pusher with just 1 bp.
But let's blame it to lack of matches.

2nd set is going better already.

Impressive serve stats today from Berankis and Ledovkskikh

Berankis won 47 of 49 points with his first serve (9 aces) and faced no break point in the whole match although lost the first set.
Ledovskikh won 25 of 25 points with his first serve (15 aces!) and he dropped only four points on second serve.

It makes it even more impressive for Berankis, to have such a weapon as he has... His serve is great for a guy who's height is 1,75 metres. On a good serving day when his FS percentage is about 65% he can be a threat to most players on tour, because when he gets his 1st serve in, he barely loses any of them. :)

It WAS a great effort by John-Patrick Smith! He fought for every point, game, set, and ultimately the match. He never stopped competing.

The crowd reminded me of a college match. Berankis had quite the contingent of Lithuanian fans who live near Chicago and the atmosphere was loud and fun. Great night for tennis!

Constantly chocking? For me it's very frustrating that he is constantly injured. For example this February he admitted that he was feeling pain all the time since the previous summer but he was still trying to pretend that everything is OK and that he can play, when even his non-profesional fans could see that he was not moving on court as before, he was crouching during the match. In Lithuania we are even joking that he has the same beginning of the story like Brian Baker :D
