Actually, that's probably the softest quarter of the draw. I'd say he really should come out of that quarter but you know that won't happen

This really is his last chance to do something now. If he loses in the first, second round or whenever he may lose, he should remember that he has got some real work to do to really make something happen. I really hope he does that.

a tough first round for Mardy, Ferrer's had a good indoor season :(

Deboogle!.
10-30-2004, 09:36 PM
Mardy handled Ferrer extremely easily at the USO and this surface should be even better suited to Mardy's game. If he has trouble with him, something is really wrong.

Well done Mardy but OMG dont make it easy on yourself do you !!!!
Fish marches on, Dent bounced

Paris - 01/11/04

Mardy Fish and Taylor Dent, the two only Americans carrying the US flag on Monday, experienced different fates on day one of the Paris Open.

Fish, the 2004 Olympic silver medalist, scraped past Spain’s David Ferrer 6/3, 3/6, 6/2 while Dent was hammered by red-hot Swedish standout Robin Soderling in straight sets 6/2, 6/4 and 59 minutes.

Fish and Ferrer traded blows from the backcourt. The 22-year-old-American found his aim right from the outset and outran his 22-year-old opponent to conquer the opening set.

Ferrer restored parity in the second set but the American executed a tactically sound final set to coast to victory.

He now meets Romanian Andrei Pavel, the 2003 runner-up.

Yikes. Another second round curse on the horizon? I hope not. :scared:

11-01-2004, 07:39 PM
I think so, tangy. Pavel beat him in R2 in Madrid after Mardy served for the match. He's 0-2 against him overall and Pavel is a defending finalist here.

Well, Mardy actually plays tomorrow, so I guess we'll find out...

:retard:-Mardy strikes again. He serves a GREAT first set - 10 aces, NO DF, over 50% first serves in, wins 84% of first serve points and 68% of second serve points, is up 3-0 in the tiebreak, then loses the tiebreak 3-7:o

Then he starts off the second set 0-40 and gets broken to 15

Good one, Mardy. FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! :banghead:

Steely Pavel sinks Fish

Paris - 02/11/04

omanian Andrei Pavel, the No 11 seed, showed steely nerves to shatter the hopes of American Mardy Fish on Tuesday.

On US election day, the 30-year-old Romanian veteran used all his court savvy to contain the young American, breaking down the resistance of his opponent 7/6 (3), 6/4 to move into the third round.

Pavel hammered eleven aces to Fish’s twelve and did not face one single break point throughout the battle.

The 24-ranked Romanian is now slated to meet the victor of the match between reigning French Open champion, Gaston Gaudio, seeded seventh here in Paris, and Spaniard Feliciano Lopez.

In the opening set, both men produced a near-perfect performance of hard-court tennis and held stubbornly onto their deliveries one after the other.

They served big in spots and sent their groundstrokes whizzing into the corners.

Fish burst ahead 3-0 in the tie-breaker but the Romanian, a runner-up here last year, remained composed under fire and turned the match back in his favour. He reeled off the final seven points to secure the first set.

Unable to hold his nerves afloat, the dejected Fish, ranked 37 in the world, cracked and earned a penalty point by the chair empire after the loss of the first set.

Fish endured a monumental collapse in the opening game of the second set and conceded his delivery. Pavel applied steady and unrelenting pressure onto his opponent and maintained his advantage until the end to close out the contest on his serves in the tenth game.

I think that most of the matches that Mardy loses, it is all because he would have beat himself. He has not gotten over that hump yet. He knows that he is better than what his results indicate and should try and work on his mental approach. I think that if he fought and did not let little things get in the way, then we would see a different Mardy. We should remember that some people tend to take longer to mature than others. For him it is taking longer than expected. It could only happen for him, once he is around 24. He will get there as long as he is willing to work on the weak parts.
