There are 31 strictly doubles players, so I guess the total of 86 players restriction was voided.
It's very good, since otherwise many good teams would miss the opportunity.

Bhupathi/Bopanna should be listed with an entry ranking of 26, not 16.
Cilic/Dodig should be listed with an entry of 69, not 49.

Cabal/Giraldo rather than Cabal/Farah :sobbing: Poor Robert.

Klizan/Lacko  Dumb decision, when you have players like Polasek and Zelenay.

Klizan/Lacko  Dumb decision, when you have players like Polasek and Zelenay.

They (Polasek/Zelenay) haven´t ranking to play in the Olympics and WC for them would raise number of players in Olympics.

Lacko and Klizan are playing in singles, so WC for them isn´t raising the number of players. Slovak tennis federation was asking for Mertinak/Polasek WC in first way, then Lacko/Klizan. But Olympics denied first apply for the reason I mentioned above. They offered WC for Lacko/Klizan instead. BTW, Mertinak is far better doubles player than Zelenay.

So first think, then talk. ;)

Yes, I forgot about Mertinak, and agree he is better than Zelenay. But Klizan/Lacko is just a horrible combination. I don't really think that total number of players is a valid consideration. If Mertinak/Polasek is the better combination, they should play.

And I don't really have access to news about the Slovak tennis federation

You have not understand, certainly. It is valid for Olympics as a tournament, because then they would have to enlarge the number of players, if it was only on Slovak tennis federation, Mertinak/Polasek would play immediately.

Why is it valid? I don't get it.

It's very good, since otherwise many good teams would miss the opportunity.By my count there are 98 ATP and 89 WTA players announced by the ITF. Interesting stuff...

How will the 8th seed be decided if Bopanna/Bhuphati and Federer/Wawrinka are still tied?

How will the 8th seed be decided if Bopanna/Bhuphati and Federer/Wawrinka are still tied?

Normally, ATP tournaments consider the combined doubles ranking for seeding purposes. So, Federer/Wawrinka will not be seeded with their low double rankings...

Below is a list of the potential top 8 seeds based on the above assumption...

Bob Bryan / Mike Bryan (United States)
Mariusz Fyrstenberg / Marcin Matkowski (Poland)
Mahesh Bhupathi / Rohan Bopanna (India)
Jürgen Melzer^ / Alexander Peya (Austria)
Christopher Kas / Philipp Petzschner (Germany)
Marcelo Melo / Bruno Soares (Brazil)
Colin Fleming / Ross Hutchins (Great Britain)
Janko Tipsarević^ / Nenad Zimonjić (Serbia)

Highest Ranking is only for entry list, seeding are still based on doubles rankings.

I wonder if the French team can change their doubles partners. Llodra/benneteau would have the best chance.

it's Llodra himself who chose Tsonga as a partner many months ago. And Tsonga has played a very good Wimbledon whereas Benneteau is a little bit injured at the moment from what I heard.

Kas is injured. Kohli will replace him so the German team will be Kohlschreiber/Petzschner

in that interview I didn't know yes Tsonga said "I had the choice", but I saw other articles which said differently, including Llodra's interview.
I thought it was normal that Llodra made the choice as he's France's best doubles player, the only one who plays all Davis cup's doubles.

Sorry, my bad :o

Another user in another forum posted it in very formal speech (sounded like he quoted some press release) so I thought for once I don't ask for the source because it doesn't seem necessary. Now his answer was "I think that was written in facebook". Oh well.

no at that moment in the French media it was just said "Tsonga was chosen instead of Benneteau".

Benneteau got injured later on but was always available apart from that. The Olympic rules didn't prevent his presence as 6 players are allowed and 2 of them (Tsonga and Gasquet) did play singles.
