Out of the top 100 soon, the German will be. Kamke had a double break lead in the first set; Zhang led by a break twice in the second and served for it at *5-3. Good win for the Chinese but obviously, at home, losing this sort of match is unacceptable for Tobias.

But is Ze heading for the top 100 soon?

I can't remember any ATP main draw win for a player from China.
Zhang had some success in futures before.

Good for tennis. Kamke has no talent at all. He doesn't deserve to be even in top 100 in the first place.

Zhang won a match against another Chinese player in Beijing (Both WCs of course) :p

Didn't even know there was a Chinese player in the top 200. Finally the Peoples Republic getting some male competitors. Took them a while.

Certainly doesn't help that your population's average height is about 5'7 ..

Well he will be after this tourney, as it stands now he's not quite there at 209.

Japan and Argentina have similar averages.

A population of 1.4billion should compensate. The tallest 300million probably average 6'0.

Argentina is at 5'8 1/2 actually.

But yes, the tallest 300 million probably do average 6'0 (in fact I would say it might even be higher due to abnormally tall people in the northeast)

Still, wouldn't hurt their chances to have a higher average height though. Zhang is 6'2 after all.

As I remember in 2005....there is a Chinese Guy named Sun Peng who get through the Qualify in Derlay Beach...and then win his first Main Draw match against another qualifier....

Don't forget the mighty Yan Bai, who gave some 6-3 6-4 to Stepanek in Shanghai 2010.

I don't think average height matters very much. The Chinese system guarantees that tall athletes get funneled into the appropriate sports (basketball, volleyball, etc.) Kids start young and they even look at parents' height to estimate how tall the kid will grow later in life.
