Roland Garros R3: R. Nadal survives E. Schwank 6-1 6-3 6-4

Battle of the gods.

With the demigod prevailing.

The real final is over.

EDIT: If the match would have been best of 7, it's obvious that Schwank would have won. Look at the scoreline... The next set would be a tiebreak for Schwank.

And then, the same but reverse.

In second gear from what I saw, not very good, losing 8 games to Schwank

Nadal to overcome the odds against a tired Monaco. VAMOS

Rafa is the GOAT
06-02-2012, 07:11 PM
Still, just getting through in easy fashion. Still on his way to a 7th RG and has only dropped 17 games. Not as good as against Istomin but still good. Looking good, 36 W, 16 UE

Nadal looked pretty bad. Idk, Monaco might sneak a set, he plays a bit like a better Schwank (though more defensive)

There's no thing as a "better Schwank".

Still, we're privileged to see Rafa Nadal in action.

Nadal was all business in the first, then it looked too easy and just started coating in the next two, playing enough great stuff to counteract the wayward nonsense.

Once Schwank got into some rhthym mid-way through the second set, it was a pretty close match. There were some quite entertaining rallies actually, as Schwank has a decent drop shot (used it way too many times though) and defensive lob. :)

very easy match, Nadal looked fairly bored out there, knowing that Schwank was no real thread. Eddd did hit a good ball here and there though

Monaco should not be a problem, this is beginning to seem like a pretty routine tournament

This is what happens when you are too successful; even your grand slam wins are considered routine!

I think this should be enough as a warning for future GOATs (yes, with an "s"), you should drop a few grand slams to make it more exciting for your fans. Maybe that's what Federer is doing?

Good sign however, the haters are out of ammo and silent in admiration of the great Clay Warrior

Don't get over-excited. I feel the whole forum is a bit lazy. See Madrid or Rome threads and compare.

I was on the verge of watching this match on mute. Jim Courier and Mark Petchey trying their hand at comedy throughout the match. It began with Courier already dismissing Schwank, saying that the match would be a "blowout", then they joked some more, then they took a dig at Schwank's weight, then they decided to mock his name, then they joked some more etc. This type of commentary has become tiresome. Just analyse the game, talk about both players in relation to their tennis one way or another and give general insight on the tour. Bit disrespectful in some ways and just an annoyance. Why does tennis seem to attract these pests? It's much rarer in say, boxing or football.

When Schwank beat an ailing Moya in 2008 at Roland Garros, I thought he had the potential to be a consistent clay court player and do well on hardcourts, especially given his considerable ability at the net. Seems like a long shot now.

well, he can barely talk at all, yes.

His Spanish and Mallorcan/Catalan sound just fine to me. It's true his 3rd language isn't perfect but that seems somewhat deranged as far as standards go for a tennis player.

Give the hate a rest, you will enjoy life more.

Schwank was playing well. His net skills are quite good and was making things slightly interesting adopting those tactics against Nadal. But his opponent was a beast and it is going to take a huge monumental effort if someone has to bring him down here, and the only person who stands a chance against Nadal, is Djokovic.

I was, however, surprised to see some uncharacteristic errors from Nadal in this match. Don't know if that was due to lapse of concentration as usually he hardly makes any errors.

8 games, Rafa? This is a troubling sign, I fear. :awww:

Nadull's luck is never end, 192th Schwank then next up is tired Monaco and Almugro

Need I remind you who Fed has played so far? While Rafa will be playing against a ranked #15 player, Roger will be playing a player ranked...um...what was that again...oh, I remember now...109!...or..err..something.

Since your next reply would be to call Juan a fanboy that will just bend over to Rafa, to that, I will say...del Potro. :wavey:

Anyhoo. The top 8 have beaten the players they should've beaten. Things are only now starting to get serious. Coming in here textually sucking your thumb is petty.

Could someone explain what sense does it make coming into a player you dislike/hate thread? 'Cause I don't do that shit.

People, before you post, ask yourself, WWJD?

I will never understand why Eurosport chooses the top 3 matches over other matches in the first week. They run over everyone in their path so what's the point?

There were great matches last night while Nadal's was NID. What's the point of showing a match with 0 tension or interest???

^^^ I agree. I would've much rather watch more of the Pico/Milos match than Rafa's. And even rather have watched that Wozniwhatever chick loose.

Understandable for this your feelings. But Milos had so many UFE(88:o) during the match, by contrast, Schwank played very good on the match, IMO.
