Actually he's not playing in Sydney. I know he has comitted to Adelaide and the Austrailian Open....... he's taking the week in between (Sydney) to train for the Open... but after the Austrailian Open I am not sure what he has committed to off the top of my head.

I have no idea. But that would make his schedule quite tough and he would have no break between Indianapolis, LA, Washington, Montreal and Cincinnati

Now we have the June 26th... Indianapolis starts at 18th of July.... lets count the days backwards until he's in action again... such a long time :sobbing:

I bet he doesn't go to Washington. That will be too much tennis leading up to the open, unless he plans to "lose" early.

I might take a guess but when I saw him play yesterday (the hardly existent coverage) I noticed his shirt had Gieco emblem on it. So I guess he is sponsored by Gieco-an insurance company here in the states. When I went to the tournament website, the big Gieco logo flashed so I guess they sponsor the tournament. So apparently, Geico wants their sponsored players to play at their sponsored tournament.

If he does go to Washington, I imagine he drops out of another tournament. It wouldn't be Cincy or Montreal, so it would mean LA or Indy. Indy would be my guess. All the players like to go to LA and visit Hugh Heffner's house, so possibly couldn't delete that off the schedule.

hmm.... the reason i ask is cuz washington is so close to where i live... just 2 hours away so we were going to go down on Monday just to see him play and then come home.... so if he's not there its not a huge deal, since i'm going to both Montreal and USO, i just wondered cuz it would have been cool to take a day trip to see his match :)

thanks guys :) and neely i know... its gonna be so quiet and sad without any Kiwi

I have no idea. But that would make his schedule quite tough and he would have no break between Indianapolis, LA, Washington, Montreal and Cincinnati :eek:That's the same schedule Andy Roddick has this summer. (Maybe they will meet three tournaments in a row again. ;) ) One thing to consider is that for seeded players, there are at least two days off in both Indianapolis & Washington (one at the beginning of the week & one in the middle). Los Angeles is only a 32 draw so there are at least two days off that week too. Even a player who made it to the final of all five tournaments would have eight days off in those five weeks.hmm.... the reason i ask is cuz washington is so close to where i live... just 2 hours away so we were going to go down on Monday just to see him play and then come home....FYI: He probably won't be playing on Monday: since Washington is a 48 draw this year (instead of 56), all 16 seeds will have first round byes. Considering the other entrants, Kiefer should be seeded:

Thanks for the info, smucav. I didn't think of that Washington is a more than 32 draw tournament.

Yes, your calculation about the days off sounds percectly right if I think it over. And probably he wouldn't reach the final in all of these tournaments either... lol! Actually I would be glad with reaching just one final but winning this time ;)

Maybe it is because it is a very long flight and he has to play on sunday for DC.Too bad cause he had a good chance to go far in that tournament cause of the weak draw.I,m pretty sure that it is not in Madrid or paris that he,ll play. Not that I don,t have faith in him but you know..Federer will be there..not good!

I was telling Addey that I prob won't be making it to Toronto just because when Jack's Mannequin tours we're gonna pretty much spend that entire time on the road at their shows. So I very highly doubt I'll have money for a full week of Toronto, but as of now I'm still planning on a few days of Cincy. But as I told her, even if I don't get to the tournaments, when Jack's comes to Toronto I plan to see her, and when they come to wherever is close to you I plan to see you there ;) Woot! I must feel old or clueless when I heard nothing about these bands- and I thought I was pretty hip :p

Anyway, I did a search on Amazon and was pleasantly surprised that Jack's Mannequin got it's first recognition at SXSW. I live in Austin and SXSW is huge each March with all the bands that come here and then in September for the ACL fest. Only if my favorite would ever come and get his ass out of England and tour here in the States. That being Richard Ashcroft.

I wouldn't count on Memphis either. It's either Indian Wells (Protected Ranking) or Clay season.

Good to see that he was present today in Krefeld. :) He wasn't sitting with the team though (like Boris Becker for example).
Anyways, Tuesday he'll fly to the DTB Tennis training camp in Marbella/Spain where he'll resume his training on Hard Court. He spent so much time in Germany going to doctors and the rehabilitation that it's time for a change. He said that he sees "light at the end of the tunnel". How many time did we hear that already?

It is strange  but I think I would also be very "geizig" and selective what eight tournaments you use your protected ranking for. You may spread them over nine months after your return and getting into, for example, Masters (which require a high ranking) without qualies should be priority. And you don't have so many tournaments before the French Open or Wimbledon prior to their 6 week entry deadline. If things are going bad, he must save two for Grand Slams and if he wants to play Masters without qualies he can use the them for it or for little tournaments you want to play. You hardly can afford the luxery to spend it on a challenger IMO and most of all, I think the qualy match or any match under competetive framework would be already a good first test after such a long time (and if you lose there, you can say it is only a challenger; do you lose a qualy for a Masters it is of different imporatance).

BMW CHAMPIONSHIP ATTRACTS BEST FIELD IN TOURNAMENT HISTORY

(Sunrise, FL) - No. 21 ranked Dmitry Tursunov is returning to the BMW Tennis Championship March 11 - 18 to defend his title at Sunrise Tennis Center. The ATP Challenger's top 32 players also include last year's finalist No. 57 Alberto Martin, French Open semi-finalist No. 23 Dominik Hrbaty, two-time Wimbledon semi-finalist Sebastien Grosjean, rising star Gael Monfils, who fought his way to the 4 th round of the French Open last year; 2006 BMW semifinalist Ivo Karlovic, who this week reached the final at San Jose, after beating James Blake and Mardy Fish; Gilles Simon, who won his first ATP title this year in Marsielle, defeating Lleyton Hewitt and Marcus Baghdatis; and popular US players Vince Spadea and Justin Gimelstob. This year's player entry cutoff is a blazing 73.

One wild card has been awarded, to former No. 4 Nicolas Kiefer. At this time last year the German was ranked 12, after reaching the semifinals of the Australian Open - losing to eventual champ Roger Federer. Kiefer is launching his tour comeback at the BMW Tennis Championship after a wrist injury at the French Open. Players losing in the first round of the Pacific Life Open March 5-18 are eligible for the three remaining spots.

Rounding out the BMW's top 32 entries are No. 35 Julien Benneteau, No. 40 Jonas Bjorkman, No. 71 Daniele Bracciali, No. 69 Juan Martin Del Portro, No. 72 Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, No. 44 Marc Gicquel, No. 50 Luis Horna, No. 58 Phillipp Kohlschreiber, No. 73 Stefan Koubek, No. 65 Nicolas Mahut, No. 64 Paul-Henri Mathieu, No. 49 Florian Mayer, No. 66 Juan Monaco, and No. 67 Florent Serra.

Notable alternates include Rainer Schuettler, Igor Andreev, Michael Llodra, Gilles Muller, and young Americans Sam Querry, Alex Kuznesov, Robert Kenrick and Alex Bogomolov Jr.

The buzz is building - as more and more top players warm-up for the Sony Ericsson Open by playing the BMW Tennis Championship. The courts are the same, the balls are the same, the weather's the same - and the competition just as tough as at Key Biscayne.

Tickets are ON SALE NOW!

March 13th, 2007

2007 marks the 14th year for the XL Bermuda Open. The Tournament will once again take place at the Coral Beach & Tennis Club from April 14th – 22nd.

Tournament Director, Mr. Alec R. Anderson has confirmed that German player, Nicolas Kiefer will be participating in the XL Bermuda Open. Kiefer reached his highest ranking of No.4 in the world in 2000 and has finished in the Top 50 for eight of the last ten years. He currently holds six singles titles and has been a finalist twelve times since turning pro in 1995. In 2006 Kiefer posted his best showing at a Grand Slam when he reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, being defeated by eventual Champion and world No.1, Roger Federer. He was the only player at the 2005 Wimbledon Championships to take a set from Federer. He has won over six million dollars in prize money and boasts wins over such players as Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, Mark Philippoussis, Tim Henman, Marat Safin, Carlos Moya and David Nalbandian. This will be Kiefer’s second trip to the XL Bermuda Open; he was the No.3 seed at the 2003 Open and lost in the second round.

His name is on the ATP-acceptance lists for Houston and Bermuda and this was written on the Munich website

Munich never was on the schedule of the website... and Gerry Weber isn`t on the website, too and it`s 100 % sure that he will play there if somehow possible...
I thought the same about WTC though but if Kiwi is fit Patrik will take him back into the team. It`s not like Davis Cup... they can have more than 4 players in the team for World Team Cup...

Yappa
04-02-2007, 10:44 PM
Yeah, no doubt that he'll try to play in Halle if he wants to take on Wimbledon. We'll see about Munich though.

Ok, he might be in the team, in case he he's ready to play, but nevertheless I doubt that Kuehnen will want to risk losing just to give Kiefer some match praxis. So Kiefer might serve as a training partner, but nothing more. Unless he kicks ass on previous clay events, of course. ;)

Kiefer-Comeback fraglich

I was in Hamburg and I talked to him and he said he will play in Halle and things are looking very good. I also went to the pressconference and he was a bit careful with his optimism there. He was asked if his comeback in Halle is 100 % sure now and he said he doesn`t know because it`s still 4 weeks to go but after the cyst was removed it is a lot better now. He said that he is practicing tennis for only 20 min and taking a break and another 20 min... and he is increasing the practice. If he comes to the point where he can play 2 hours twice a day he`ll know that he can play a whole match again. It's still nearly 4 weeks until the tournament in Halle will start and he said this should be enough time but he doesn`t know it for sure. His comeback will happen anytime soon. That`s what he said.
I believe in what he told me and he was very very positive about Halle when I asked...

Interesting players list. Murray, Nalbandian, Youzhny, Korolev and Haas!

Can't wait for another Kiefer vs Haas or Kiefer vs Federer match. Well, as long as he doesn't get thrashed, of course. ;)

Too bad Haas is out....wish the best to Kiefer and hope he stays healthy so I can see him at Cincy TMS this year.

Interesting first match for him.
So far, they only played one official match against each other (Kiefer won it), but IIRC there was a match in the Kooyong 2006 exhibition which Kiefer also won.

He better win against Vince, though!

Well he lost. But grass court and match time is more important. He needs some matches.

Remembered Haas after his comeback 2004, he lost against Popp on hc. :tape:

YES YES YES !!!!!!! HE WON!!!!!!

In the second match of the day, Igor Andreev (RUS) dispatched fellow countryman Evgeny Korolev 6-4, 6-2 to progress to the next stage of the tournament. The final match saw a win for the battling German Nicolas Kiefer against the charismatic American Vince Spadea. Kiefer has not played much competitive tennis in the last year and this was only his third match back since a wrist injury in 2006.

Results from Wednesday 20th June:

• F. Verdasco (SPA) bt M. Safin (RUS), 4-6, 6-3, 10-4
• I. Andreev (RUS) bt E. Korolev (RUS), 6-4, 6-2
• N. Kiefer (GER) bt V. Spadea (USA), 7-6, 7-5

kiwi10is

he will not play tomorrow... since Safin lost today I think he will play Safin on Friday....

Spadea is No 64 in the world. Only Kiwi's 3rd singles match and he already beat the NO 64. Ok... it was only a challenger but I am sure Spadea wanted to win this, too. He is also preparing for Wimbly.

And they said "battling Nicolas Kiefer"... that`s our Kiwi!!

young French star Gael Monfils came through a tough test against German Nicolas Kiefer. Monfils reversed his first set deficit, by winning the second set and a closely-fought match tie-break, putting him on the front foot going into Wimbledon next week. Monfils won 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 (Match Tie Break) in 68 minutes.

:yeah: good surprise! He can use some ranking points from the optionals, too... :secret: and not only from the Masters and Grand Slams  ;) :haha: --

And maybe we see a Davis Cup match with him... but I'm not too sure because his last tie is already some time ago and wasn't too successful and the team has reached a lot without him since then...

JMG
01-29-2008, 11:50 AM
He isn't even nominated for the Daviscup. In the last ties, Kühnen always nominated 5 players at first and took one out few days before the tie. Now he simply picked Berrer and Mayer over Kiefer for whatever reason. There is no doubt that Berrer and Mayer aren't good enough to beat Spain in April. I guess Kühnen hopes for a Haas comeback and then would replace Berrer and Mayer with Haas and Waske. So I doubt Kiwi will get nominated vs Spain.

I also don't get why he didn't commit for any tournament in February.

I guess Kühnen hopes for a Haas comeback and then would replace Berrer and Mayer with Haas and Waske. So I doubt Kiwi will get nominated vs Spain.

First I doubt that Kiwi has any motivation left to fight for a place in a team that kicked him out like that. And I also doubt that Haas will be fit enough in April even if he can comeback in Delray. Players who are often injured are too insecure for Kühnen. That`s what he said today  So maybe Kühnen is sure that Mayer will beat Nadal. And since we would have choise of ground he can take clay again :p I am sure that will help!!

In the last ties, Kühnen always nominated 5 players at first and took one out few days before the tie
official Davis Cup rules say that a team with a nonplaying coach has to nominate 5 players 10 days ahead of the tie and choose 4 out of those 5 players on Thursday before the tie. So I think Kühnen said he will take Kampke as 5th player. Much better choise than Kiwi for sure :banghead::banghead:

I also don't get why he didn't commit for any tournament in February.

That`s what I thought first. But look at the rest of the schedule: he planned the Davis Cup then 3 weeks off followed by Las Vegas, Indian Wells, Miami (another Davis Cup), Monte Carlo, Rome, Hamburg (WTC?), Roland Garros, Gerry Weber, Wimbledon, Gstaad, Toronto, Cincinnati, Olympia, US Open... that`s a tough schedule! Maybe it's not a bad idea to spend 2-3 weeks at home living a normal life before all this

sorry maybe I am overreacting but I am just very disappointed and sad :sad: I was looking so much forward to see Kiwi

Sunrise, Usa; cut-off: 71
Berrer, Cilic, Clement, Garcia Lopez, Gicquel, Grosjean, Hanescu, Karlovic, Kiefer, Koubek, Llodra, Mahut, Melzer, Montanes, Rochus O., Sela, Seppi, Simon, Spadea, Starace, Tipsarevic, Vliegen.

Nice to see he would play Sunrise! He can go for the title here if he loses early in IW.

Any news on the Olympics? Will he make the cut?

YES!! Germany will only send players who are at least top 24 in the World ranking, reached a 1/4 final in Australian Open or French Open or a Semifinal in a Masters Series Tournament. So because Kiwi was in the Semis in Madrid he is the only German who will be sent to Olympia and it means the world to him. They are thinking of sending Kohlschreiber, too although he didn't pass the German version of the qualy but Kiwi needs a doubles partner down there... :wavey::wavey:

Gutes Tennis für die gute Sache: 3. Nicolas-Kiefer-Charity

Wann: 21.11.2009, 14:30-19:00 Uhr
Wo: Lenny Soccio Ice & Event Center, Brüsseler Str. 1, 30853 Langenhagen
