Hopefully, Jeremy does not win the title. There are players that need it more than he does.

Preferably, either F. Serra or M. Gicquel win the tournament. I wouldn't mind if H. Zeballos, R. Ramirez-Hidalgo or A. Giannessi wins it, but they are not priorities. Florent or Marc have to win the title. I will be extremely sad if neither can take the title. Florent really should take the title. The entry list is very below average for this level tournament.

Florent has a tough draw. Zeballos, then likely Bautista, then likely Granollers. If he can get through that, maybe he can win the title. But it will be extremely difficult.

I'll go with Bautista, RRH, Jaziri to make the SF. The final section for me is a total toss-up since Chardy seems to be having difficulties. Ilhan could make the SF or lose to Jouan. Gensse is the form player, but he'll be traveling from America to here. Maybe Ouahab can pull off the surprise and make the SF.

The sad thing is that Florent may not get a WC for the French anymore. With Gensse playing well recently, and Teixeira potentially pulling off an upset today over Jaziri, Florent may get left behind. I would honestly be devastated. This is all bullshit. He should have won the tournament last week and he failed vs Kuznetsov. He keeps getting tough draws. Something has to pull through for him.

jonnyboy21
05-01-2012, 04:58 PM
Really pleased for Malek. He dug in despite a sloppy performance on serve and won the match from a break down in the deciding set. Teixeira had big problems today on his 2nd serves and his double faults definitely aided Malek to an extent.

Filo V.
05-01-2012, 05:14 PM
Jaziri def. Texieira 6-3 3-6 6-4

Definitely a tough win for Malek. The Frenchman had about two easy serve games in the match. Even being a break down in the third you kind of figured he'd find a way to come back.

jonnyboy21

Gicquel v Jaziri 2nd round - intriguing clash! Marco's restored some confidence with a Futures win in Ajaccio (all his 5 matches he won in straight sets, too), so it should be tight. I'll go for Malek to grind out the W, probably in 3.

how strange - according to the OOP the Janowicz match should be on now and all the bookies put the market in-play but it just seems to have disappeared. Doubt its a walkover as that would show in the results by now and there is play on the other court so dont have a clue whats going on

I don't think he'll tank. He may lose, but I'm sure it won't be a tank. This tournament has a lot of ranking points and prize money at stake, so it wouldn't be wise to tank, especially when he's one of the favourites to win the title. Anyway, Madrid Masters is just a clown tournament in my opinion. Rubén shouldn't give priority to that joke of a tournament.

Well, Ruben was down a break with Janowicz serving for set one, and came back, then broke to win the first set, so he's clearly not tanking. Which is smart. 125 points and the good prize money for the titlist are on offer which are more than he'd likely get at Madrid.

I'm disappointed for Jeremy, but RRH played well. Unbelievably consistent on serve, very few UEs and double faults and of course Chardy's serving could not match that so he lost.

I love both, but I'm happy RRH took the title, Chardy has still plenty of time to win stuff. :)
