If we could put these two players against each other in a match, who would win it?

Nalbandian in both formats, IMO.

It would be an absolutely brilliant spectacle, that's for sure.

Pathetic thread. Nalbandian is such a MUG he can't even have a slam tournament be his form comparison.

safin at his peak barely scraped past fed and has a terrible record against him.

nalbadian in straight sets.

Nalbandian would win best of 5 in master cup and Safin would win in Australian Open.

Both would be 5 setters and absolute epics.

Again wrong comparison. There is the issue of matchups, you know. Where Nalby's backhand gave Fed hell, Safin's actually gave Nalby hell because he had a more powerful one and was almost as consistent when he is dialed in. Using Federer as a basis is not accurate. The biggest difference between them is the serve. Whatever marginally Nalby was better at off the ground, Safin more than compensated for with his very much superior serve - both 1st and 2nd. Same reason why the serve is the most important weapon in tennis.

I was going to insult you. But seeing you don't respect players like Federer or Djokovic, it's obvious you won't respect Nalbandian.

Nalbandian.

I doubt anyone besides maybe a few top guys at their very peak would beat that Nalbandian.

This is impossible to say.. Nalbandian has always had a slightly different mentality in best of 3 set matches. Pop him in a best of 5 match that isn't Davis Cup and he is bound to get nervous.
