So many unforced, but so many winners too.
Good volleys by Johniz.

Well done, John.

He used very similar tactics against Simon as to the tactics that Ivanovic used to defeat weaponless Wozniacki.

Awful match. Very happy John got through, though.

Relatively expected. Nice week and a half for Simon, and hopefully he'll contend more later in the season and everyone on MTF won't crap all over him. Big John will have to get that pop/accuracy back on his serve and forehand to have a chance against Nole obv.

If I'm not mistaken, a win in the semi's combined with a Delpo loss tomorrow means that Isner would be into the top 10.

Gilles was so awful today. If he played the way he did against Harrison he would have won because John wasn't much better.

Well he did have a grueling 3 hour match yesterday, he looked very tired and sweaty, perhaps he had the virus as well.
At least he managed to breadstick the giant. And tenderize him for Nole.

The match played out as expected really, John's weapons pulled him though although they were misfiring for large portions of the match. Simon didn't serve well enough overall. If Simon served better I think he would have won. The night conditions made the court even slower and made it very hard for Isner to consistently play offense without missing but he started playing more strategical offensive tennis in the third set.

Competitive, mediocre quality match. John will play better vs Djokovic.

isner was tight and played a lousy match overall, but i’ll give him credit for pulling thru without his a or b game.....sign of a true pro.

Lurch made that a lot tougher than it had to be. I'm quite surprised at the scoreline, I left when it Isner was 1-2 down the first, quite surprised he came back to win it and then got breadsticked in the second. What a strange match.

V-cash baby!

Gilles was so awful today. If he played the way he did against Harrison he would have won because John wasn't much better.

He couldn't play like he did against Harrison because Isner won't participate in pushing for more than a few balls. This is why I insisted that Ryan needed to finish the points instead of engaging in 40 shot rallies that totally play into the Simon's hands.

Well he did have a grueling 3 hour match yesterday, he looked very tired and sweaty, perhaps he had the virus as well.
At least he managed to breadstick the giant. And tenderize him for Nole.

LOL - gotta love the Simon fans. That's the way Simon always looks, he was so tired he waited until deep in the third to lose this one. :D

This match should have been and an all American affair.

Simon was robbed by a bad call on first serve at 15-15 last game.

Right, that's excatly why he lost.

How is Isner a serve bot? Hasn't he proved to everyone yet that he has some serious weapons off the ground...one of the biggest forehands in tennis. Servebot, you kidding me? Go watch the USA vs. Switzerland in DC from earlier this year.

Glad to see the "pushbot" lose.

This term is on the verge of losing its meaning but of course you're joking so...

No, tennis won because John actually plays tennis. His points have discernible start and finish. In his matches there are usually more than 3 winners hit a set. LOL. Tennis won yesterday night, Mug-enis lost. ;)

Find Isner matches refreshing after watching the top 4 and many others play. The lack of rallies and aggressive net attacking is at times royal treatment for my eyes

Isner had never before played four consecutive matches without a tie-break (four times three straight matches without a tie-break)!

Isner could finish the points because his forehand is more powerful than Harrison and 9 inches taller. Isner could hit Simon off the court while Ryan could not.

Harrison can 100mph+ forehands...similarly so can Andy Roddick. It's a choice thing. I personally think if you can hang in a rally longer and take a higher percentage finishing shot that's a better option. That is to a point however, there's no reason to play these 20 shot rallies if you are Ryan Harrison it's just silly, IMHO.

Isner however, doesn't have the luxury of choosing to play extneded rallies due to his "big guy movement"...if there is any sitter for the most part he has to go to town on it. High risk, high reward. Also, when you have a serve that wins you over 1/2 of the points played on your service games then you can be a bit more liberal with the shots you take for winners.
