WHY do these two have to play each other in every damn tournament? Eugh.

Last year it was mostly Federer-Tsonga,now at the start of this season it`s plenty of Federer-Del Potro matches.
Tough to say what will happen.Federer is struggling with illness while Del Potro hasn`t been really convincing either in this tourney.

Hoping for Delpo to win, if he keeps losing at this rate, he'll become Roger's turkey in no time , can't believe he hasn't won a single set against Roger in their last 4 matches.

VAMOS DELPO! Time to stop the losing streak. :rocker:

Delpo played hard match today.. he has less that 48 houres to recover
and roger is in form and won the last 4 matchs against the argentine
so Fed in 2

This time it will be good for tennis If Federer loses. He's got absolutely ZERO chance against Nadal in this form, he can even get bageled/breadsticked.

Hopefully Del Po in 3.

He goes on to take the title here and in Miami

Looks like we've been trending toward a win by del Po. In 2009, he was assaulted all year until he finally made it close at RG. Then got the win at the U.S. Open. Since then, he has been assaulted ever since until he finally made it close in Dubai.

This should at least go 3 sets.

Honeslty I think Delpo will lose this pretty easily unless Fed is in real bad shape. As much as I like Delpo he just does not have it quite back yet. Its getting there though. He is still kind of sloppy and has concentration lapses at random times. Fed seems to be focussing better now than he did two years ago. I have not seen him have any major lapses in quite a while. He must be settleing into the whole fatherhood thing and getting comfortable again.

Delpo will be back in full force after the clay court season. Clay will be good for him this year. Summer hard court swing he will do a lot of damage. Maybe even take the open this year again.

Yes, I feel the same. Roger somehow fended off Raonic and Bellucci inspite of the discomfort but I cant see him doing that against Delpo
and maybe a Delpo victory may be better for the semi against Nadal

This is the fourth consecutive time these two have met this year. I would normally pick Federer as the winner, but he is sick and got to a slow start in the last couple of matches. But I have faith in him and I want him to at least defend his points here. Yes, he might lose to Nadal since he is sick, but Federer is a fighter and I believe in him.

Let's win this thing!! :)

LisaKoh

He should just give this one to the Pony. Unleash him on Nadal and the Djoke.

Del Potro seemed to be figuring him out. However, on slow courts, I think Fed has the advantage.
If Fed can recover a bit, and del Pony isn't at his best, Fed could take this in 2 tight sets.
If it goes to 3, I dunno how much fight he has left.

All he needs is to defend semifinal points. After this match, it'll be Rafa or Nalbandian, so.... yea...

Lopez
03-15-2012, 02:57 PM
Del Potro might take this. Slow surface + poorer form than in Dubai from Roger. I say JMDP in 2.

Though I still hope that Federer wins the title

Federer will be fighting 2 opponents, the virus and the Pony. The Pony surely can't afford to lose this one. Federer has struggled somewhat so a loss here would not be surprising. Pony choked badly in their last match so another choke might be on the cards here as well.

Del Potro isn't at his best and neither is Fed. Difficult to say.
Considering the troubles that Fed already had with Raonic and Bellucci, who aren't (yet) in Del Potro's league (sorry, no offense meant), I'm liking Del Potro's chances.
JMDP in three.

Like Jon already said, Fed did well to make it to the QF, considering his and the overall conditions.

Del Potro never was in a winning position in Rotterdam. Having chances to win a TB in the 2nd set while you've already lost the first is NOT being 'in a winning position'.
Díd you mix him up with Davydenko, perhaps? ;)

those 4 set points at 6-2 in the tb in dubai were virtual match points.....fed was going to be bullied by an in-the-zone d pot in the third.....

Its one thing playing a soon to be top 5 player in del potro with short rest. It's a whole nother ball game playing them when your maybe struggling with flu like symptoms. Its tough getting over the flu when you have to play 3 sets back to back when what you really need is tons of rest. Props to fed getting this far but del potro wins this in two. It most likely will be the night match which will give del po even more time to set up shots not that he needs them against sick fed.

And im sick of this del potro isn't back to the level he once had. yes he is! It's only been fed who's stopped him otherwise he'd have a few more titles this year. Fed was beating him pre us open 2009.

Del po in 2 easy sets.

since you've been so bullied by the entire MTF after 7 consecutive losses suffered by your God against Djokovic, and you are still breathing and exercising tardism of the highest order here, I think we absolutely cannot assume that Roger would have been beaten in that imaginary 3rd set in Dubai...

Del Po fans are something else. It's been nothing but Fed in straights all year, even when Pony had 4 consecutive set points. I see no reason why it would be different now unless Del Po found some variety or Fed really is ill. The whole form thing obviously doesn't matter here, as he was in excellent form crushing Berdych and then was easily dismissed by fed, same thing on the slow australian hardcourts.

deal with it punk, the winner of this match faces Nadal and whether or not you care to recognize it, changes nothing. in a thread about a match it is certainly appropriate to speculate which player who wins has a better chance to get further in the draw.

I see Fed winning this but Delpo has looked pretty good this week so maybe he will reverse trends.

Whose shameful losses? Last 2 events played against each other:

Mr. Federer lost to Mr. Nadal at the Australian Open in a fairly hard fought match 7-6, 2-6, 6-7, 4-6 .

Mr. Nadal lost to Mr. Federer in London in 2 sets that included a bagel - 3-6, 0-6

Well said. From the few post's I've seen of you, you seem like a sensible guy. Few and far between here.

I think Del Potro could take this. The pendulum has to swing the other way sooner or later when your as talented as he is, especially if Fed really is unwell.

Federer not playing anything special so far, but I think he is in a good position. Getting by his last two matches using his head and being patient. Maybe saving his best for potential Rafa meeting? I'd rather that he struggle against lesser players only to play his best when he needs to, like he used to peak 2004-2007.
