Istomin took it to Ferrer that looked out of sorts, maybe played to much in MM south american swing.

Istomins 1st win over a top10 player, congrats! Ferrer never did to well here anyway.

In the bit I saw, Istomin was confident in his defensive abilities- able to outrun and breakdown Ferrer of all people. Ferru may have been ill, but Istomin is looking stronger and stronger lately.

Nice to see an offensive player hitting through a quality defender like Ferrer on these courts. He really struggled with the pace from Istomin.

Ferrer did also play well below his standards though. Lots of UEs that can't be attributed to Istomins power.

i heard that ferrer was feeling ill a couple of days ago. I think it's that nasty bug in coachella valley. hopefully everyone else can stay healthy

Ferrer's match against Dimitrov was deceiving, he wasn't that great. This shows how bad Dimitrov is more than anything

An obvious off-day for David, that towering UE-count would never be his if he was on. There are rumours that he wasn't well either so who knows how much (or less) that may have contributed to this poor performance.
Very nice for Istomin. Always good to see fresh blood making it to latter stages of big tournaments. Congrats to him!

Istomin played a really smart match today, basically didn't give anything to Ferrer, who didn't have a good day, probably under the weather too.

With the virus, this has become a perfect tournament to make excuses.

That being said, Istomin can have very good strokes when playing well.

With this virus and so many people feeling sick it`s a good time to speculate who is sick and who is well and bet on some surprise results.Any news on Federer or Nadal how they are feeling today?

I expected and predicted a loss to Ferrer on the draw challenge, but thought he would lose to Dodig

that was an impressive performance. istomin is a special player who really understands the game and instinctively knows what to do. he has high court IQ, flawless technique, easy power, and mecir-like movement -- in other words, the type of player juniors should be emulating. i expect big things from denis and i hope his mom can take him to the next level.

Haha wow. Not quite in the Murray/GGL range as Istomin's in better form and Ferrer isn't as good, but this is a massive shock.

you might be right. Doesn't make it any less ridiculous though. I really don't like watching Ferrer, I don't like his style of play.. But he is very good, and a well deserved no 5..what does this guy have to do to be put on a showcourt? Imagine him reaching the RG semi's and having to play that match on court 10 or something...jeez
