Indian Wells R3: Berdych def. Roddick 6-3 4-6 6-2

Berdych not at his best, but he didn't need to be to get the win in this. Roddick was really moving very poorly in the 3rd.

In the 1st set Roddick decided to have a bitch at the umpire for not allowing him to challenge a call. The hand gesture wasn't very clear from Roddick that he wanted to challenge, but it was a bit early for him to have the umpire interaction.

Berdych was awful, I can't believe he let Roddick back into that second set.

Always a good day when Rodduck loses.

A-Rod is a fighter, but he's SUCH a hack these days. It's been a pretty dramatic fall of form from A-Rod the past couple of seasons. It's hard to know where he goes from here. His game is evaporating and his body is giving out on him.

Tomas had lapses as he usually does, but when he played well, he was really good. Patchy tennis, but he did serve well most of the match and moved well throughout. Now the rematch vs Almagro, should be interesting!

Berdych's forehand was unreal the whole match.

Second half of second set was awesome by Roddick, best set of tennis he's played in absolute ages, shame he kind of sucked in the other 2 sets though.

Roddick's forehand 5 meters behind the tram-lines in the opening point of the last game :worship:

Perhaps Roddick will be remembered as the most primitive former No. 1, tennis-wise of course... albeit he is nowhere near to be called "intellectual". First he lost his forehand, later on the serve (and hair), without two basic weapons he lost amazing self-confidence as well. And you've got a picture of a pretty average tennis player, these scorelines of the last 12 months say for themselves:

Simon 3-6 3-6
Murray 3-6 1-6
Nadal 2-6 1-6 3-6
Federer 3-6 2-6
Murray 2-6 2-6
Berdych 3-6 6-4 2-6

That's what you get when you being Roddick win 1 out of 4 points directly after the serve in contrary to a 3/4 ratio in his golden age :bigwave:

dick needs to give up on the verbal jousting with umpires -- he's terrible at it. he was wrong and he's a liar.

Berdych should have crushed him easier, but Super Saiyan went for a walk about in the middle, and Roddick looked like Roddick of yore for a few games in that second set.

Berdych :o losing a set to Roddick.

My thoughts too :o He wasted a break point at 3:2 in the 2nd set and lost the concentration for 5 minutes. It really should have been 6-3 6-3.

To be fair, A-Rod started hitting the ball a lot sharper in the middle of the second set. He started just hitting out after being pretty much embarrassed to that point. And it was working, he started hitting crisper and he started hitting more intelligently and moving Berdych out of position more. Tomas took his foot off the gas and stopped dictating play like he was throughout the first half of the match. He never really got his game all the way back and overall it was a very incomplete performance from the Czech, but a win is a win.

Roddick was 65 percent on first serves and 45 on second.

There was no way he had any right to win a set.

The same comment I wrote in the Fish thread applies to this...

Fish and Roddick are excellent representatives of the jerk jock stereotype.

Disgraceful.

Berdych had no business losing a set to current Duck.

Berdych was great at moments and then horrible at others but this match doesn't really say much.

Roddick as always served well BUT his movement is entirely gone likely from the Australian Open injury. it's hard to tell if Andy is in decent form or not, but he could not run cross court for the life of him. Still recuperating clearly, he jogged to half the shots. Kind of astounding that Berdych took 3 sets to beat a Roddick that has no movement, or pretty limited movement

Roddick pulled up on a forehand early in the third, right hip is my diagnosis. He played through it, but his movement was done.

Some positives for Roddick in that 2nd set, he served big again, and was hitting out on the forehand and even the shitty backhand.

Roddick needs to drop about 20 pounds no shit. I still believe he can be great, his game is still there. But his fitness is not.

kubot with a faster serve would send roddick into retirement today.
roddick's brother injured himself all the time in tennis matches too, but roddick kept trying to get love and free money despite the knowledge that he was also a deeply troubled, mediore, junk food-binging unserious tennis player.
he's an emotional cripple and intellectually-inferior to his brother too.
there was no career the last 8 years, but he enjoyed using free tennis money to buy attention, women, and sport jobs.

Roddick, with age is also losing his monstrous serve. No longer can his serve apply pressure to opponents.
