Indian Wells R2: [5] Ferrer def. Dimitrov 6-2 6-2

Dimitrov's smash into the net to go down a double break in the 2nd set and on match point where he dumped an easy volley/smash into the net after playing a great point to get into a winning position, summed up this match from his perspective. Dreadful doesn't really describe his level of play. Extremely poor performance.

Grigor had two break points in his first return game of the match, which he squandered with errors. From there he got broken immediately at 1 all, which was the start of three straight breaks, which were mostly lost with errors from both. Predictably, Ferrer started to find the range of his game from *3-2 in the first set, and cut down on his mistakes. Grigor, however, never did and continued making terrible easy errors, continued serving horribly, returning terribly, and completely fell apart in the second set. Grigor's got extremely clumsy movement; he hit some flashy winners from defensive positions, but in general Ferrer found it very easy to move Dimitrov out of position with a couple angled forehand and win points. David didn't serve that well nor really got out of 3rd gear, but it wasn't necessary.

Dimitrov has such a long way to go to be competitive at this level. He can play some good points and show his talent at times, but can't string anything together. Comfortable win in the end for David. Mediocre match from his perspective but a win is a win.

What saddens me is not the fact that he lost. It's the way he did.

Easy cash. :lick:
I expected a loss as Ferrer is exactly the type of player that draws fellows like Dimitrov into making tons of errors. But I didn't expect it to be this bad. :o

Even though Dimitrov lost, the level of attractiveness in their strokes and gamestyle is like night and day. Grisha .

i feel sorry for grigor. why the hell didn’t his coaches and parents shake him up as a youngster and tell him to be his own man instead of fed’s doppelganger? he’s a strong, athletic kid who loves the sport and could have had some real potential. sadly, it’s too late now.....he’s long since crossed the rubicon.

100% expected. Grigor has not been playing well at all for a long time. He played well at the hopman cup but honestly who even cares about that?

david never got out of 3rd gear but he didnt need to because grigor was that bad

Had this been Nadal beating someone, he'd been praised for unstoppable form (as he was today :p).

Of course Dimitrov would prefer to just have an attractive() playing style, instead of a successful career like Ferrer is having. Who cares about attractiveness in strokes nowadays :haha: It's all about winning or losing.

I'm sure Ferrer or any other top 30 guy could easily go for a few very attractive shots and lose 2 and 2 or 1 and 1 in the process.

Dimitrov is only 20. He has plenty of time to have a successful career. I happen to think his game has a far higher ceiling than Ferrer's, so shoot me .

Sport is an entertainment medium so obviously some people care about the attractiveness of the tennis. The result in itself isn't really all that entertaining unless you live vicariously through your player's achievements. What and how things happen during a match however, should be entertaining.

No one tests the consistency and tactical maturity of these youngsters better than Pics. Puts them through their paces and doesn't let go.

If Ferrer had actually played well, a result like this could have been understandable. But David was no better than average, and Marin just got destroyed really. There isn't much else to say, really. Overall, it's matches like this that should prove to be a major reality check to Dimitrov and his fans.

Yup, very good that the only promising junior nowadays (style-wise) seems to have no mental ability. Really great...

Dimitrov should learn a lesson from raonic when it comes to mental toughness........ He won't go far with his current attitude. Will he change? Will he fight? I hope so

Dimitrov has a nice backhand and...? He's not a Fed doppelganger, he's a poor man's Gasquet and unless he gets electroshock therapy to completely change his mindset, he won't be getting anywhere

Ferru was his usual consistent compact self (except for that small patch in the first set) but that's always a tall order for people who cannot keep their head together for more than a couple of games.

His backhand really isn't that nice at all, pretty weak actually. The comparison to Federer is as vague as it gets.

Well since he's probably the one 1OHB youngster I'd say it's cute enough

Federer at the same age (pre-peak) would have murdered this guy

Honestly: his movement is terrible (and that's what made Roger great), his ROS is bad bad, he doesn't have fire or passion...

I am not a hater but I honestly see nothing special in this guy, maybe his abs? (I love the pic with Dima  )

Grigor is losing it and fast. At this stage Federer was making decent progress. Baby Fed or rubber Fed whatever you want to call him is showing no signs of improvement. There is no doubt that the courts are killing his game. Apparently the court is even slower this year :o.
