Repeated commentary for players

Commentators mention the same things about players in most matches they are in. What are some things you're likely to hear from the commentators in a certain player's matches?

David Ferrer
1 "a long way from the top 4"
2 "one of the hardest workers on tour"
3 "extended length racquet"
4 "the number two Spaniard behind Rafa Nadal"

nadal
"great hands at the net" (for what exactly- making easy putaways makes him suddenly good at the net???)

"if it goes to 5 vs nole you have to say nadal is huge fave" (happened at the wimby and us open finals- i wanted to call bullshit then but the ao final proved my point nicely- nadal would choke is nole didnt)

"is this going to be his year?" (every british commentaor when murray plays, every single match, even a round 1 match at a 250 tourney and theya sk this Q)

"best tennis era we have ever witnessed"(usually said during a nole or nadal match- without a hint of sarcasm aswell- i mean, was 1995 really that long ago???)

"federer really is a complete player"(umm, no, he hasn't been since 2002 when he forgot how to volley, before that he was one of the best volley prospects in tennis- and he threw it away because of those darn slow courts)

Raonic: "the big Canadian".
They are talking as if he's a 6'9 freak and reality he's 6'5 which is quite common on the tour.

any endless rally in a Djokovic vs Nadal match: "best point ever"

for Soderling:

"Look at the power in that forehand/backhand/serve"
"Listen to the sound when the racket hits the ball"
"The only man to have defeated Nadal on the clay of RG"
"blahblahblah Magnus Norman"
"he puts the towel over his head to concentrate"
"blahblahblah *crazy parallell to swedish legend* "Will he be the next swedish slam winner?"

If he makes a comeback I'm sure commentators will mention the mono sickness every chance they get

Roddick

"That epic Wimbledon final in 2009"
"He would certainly have won more slams if it weren't for one man"
"One of the biggest serves on the tour"
"Currently engaged to Brooklyn Decker"
"You certainly have to favour Roddick if it goes to a breaker"
"Oh, that approach wasn't good enough:o"

Any commentator during a Feliciano Lopez will mention his grooming habits at least once.

Verdasco matches will usually get a mention of "that epic five-setter against Nadal"

Nadull: "His knee has been bothering him".
Dosen't matter that 99% time nadull runs as freely as ever. They somehow feel obliged to tell us in advance the excuse list just in case he loses.

Great idea for a thread, I've often thought commentators were just reading from a crib sheet for each player.

Benjamin Becker:

- Is not related to Boris.
- Beat Agassi in his final match.

Every goddam match...

Talent has nothing to do with current form.

sorry, let me rephrase

his current form doesn't show the talent he allegedly has
you'd expect some hint of that "talent" to seep through, but he is just determined to clown it up instead

On Nadal: he's cutting some grass! (In reference to the lawnmower move)

On Del Potro in the AO QF against Federer: He's starting to look like a beached whale.

On Tsonga: Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee, it's the ATP's own Muhammad Ali!

On Safin in the Channel 7 ads leading up to the Australian Open in 2005: Ladies, come, have a glass of wine and enjoy the tennis. (footage of Marat practicing shirtless in soft focus and sexy music) His opponent, Novak Djokovic, will be keeping his shirt on. (hahah, how little they knew all those years ago!)

On Nalbandian: Always mention the big H2H advantage he had over Federer before Federer hit his peak.
