Served for the 1st set at *8-7 in the tiebreaker and lost the next 3 points. Then there were no break points whatsoever in the 2nd set until *5-6 serving.

Roddick should definitely consider retirement at this point. When I saw him against Istomin last week, I thought he looked out of shape and overweight. It seems as if he's only playing for the sponsors now.

Does he lose 500 points?

He lost last week because last year Memphis was the 7th week of the season, this year it's 8th.

When Roddick loses to his turkey it signifies that it's really bad with him.

Roddick served at 66%, Malisse served 50%.

Roddick was out aced, won less points on 1st and 2nd serve, was outreturned, and was less clutch on break points to a slumping Malisse. Should he retire?

Yep, tennis has been rather cruel to Andy for years now. Sure he's been in the top 10, won lots of minor tournaments and got plenty of money (and used his status in tennis to bag his wife etc.) but his lack of a slam in almost a decade seems to have taken it's toll.

exactly. I kinda feel that Andy simply gave up. He tried so hard and got nowhere. I mean, we talk about match up issues all the time etc. Roddick simply was not good enough. I still that young Rod was a much better player... not because he was young...he was simply less inhabited in a way. I watched some of his old matches and I really don't understand what happened with his FH. how did he lose it?

He probably tried to change his game-style to solve the Federer puzzle since his old "big serve/big FH" style wasn't cutting it. He's managed to challenge Federer at times with his "new style" but it still only resulted in one victory in 2008.

He's had a lot of injuries over the last year and hasn't been able to play or practice consistently it seems. His latest was the hamstring injury in Australia and those can linger for a long time. Seems his body may be forcing him into retirement at this point.

02-23-2012, 08:21 AM
This is sad. I've never been a big fan of Andy's but no other player's press conferences are ever as entertaining or as funny (with the exception of Marat but Marat wins at life). If Federer didn't exist, Roddick would have had at least one more USO, one Wimbledon and a good shot at the AO. He had a great window of opportunity in '06-07 and then there was that closely contested Wimbledon final in '09.

It's never a good thing when you're thirty years old and the press are ragging on you, even though you were unlucky enough to be born in the same generation as one really really good Swiss guy.

not surprising at all. andy's having a shit year so far. first the hamstring, now the ankle. and malisse is no turkey. well, maybe half a turkey. it was a damn close match afterall.
andy will bounce back if the body allows it.
if not, the USO title, $20m and brooklyn will keep him happier than many of us dream to be.

Roddicks fire has run out - his game is as always abysmal. once he dropped out of the top 10, it was like ice water had been dumped on the American

losing to someone who cannot even muster a win themselves is the last straw - but Roddick must stick around for longer as a lingering memory of the frustrations and disappointments he represents to the game

At this rate he will need a WC just like Goran to play the tourney.:D
He is really struggling right now to win matches in these smaller events.
With his ranking getting closer to the non-seeded players it will be tough for him in the big events where he will probably get top players in the early rounds.I wonder if he is still motivated though.

Its never good to see a top class player fad like A-Rod is and as much as he has earned the right to retire when he is ready but maybe if he came out and said he was retiring after the U.S Open then that would allow him the chance to have a farewell tour of sorts without the pressure of are you finished.

This.
I have personally been guilty of celebrating Roddick's GS defeats as a Federer fan - as all have come against my guy - but boy the Wimbledon 2009 smarted even for me. The dude has perhaps pushed his limited talent so much, he never gets credit for how good he actually has been because of one guy. Its a pity he doesnt have the numbers to show it, he is perhaps the most undeserving one-slam wonder. And barring his tantrums, he has actually been a great sport really.
Its pathetic watching him like this. If he doesnt find a way back to even half of his 2010 form even - and it looks more and more unlikely day by day, he should hang up his boots. Things will just get ugly and I think he has suffered enough heavy defeats in his career.

no one wishes to hear his insults.

no one wants him to replace a better player in the main draws.

who cares if he's using his obsolete fame for charity events all year?
who cares if he's begging his fangirls for charity money? no one wants him in tennis. not even his trophy wife.
