WWW Marseille R2 : Del Potro vs Davydenko

Very interesting match :yeah:

Davydenko leads 3-1, 3 wins on hard indoors in 2 sets (Bercy 2007 + WTF 2008 and WTF 2009 final)

Del Potro also won easily once, on clay in Davis cup semifinal in 2008

If Davydenko can play very quick, Del Potro doesn't like it.

Judging by their level last week, I'm eager to watch that :yeah:

This is the crux of the matter.

Juan has to serve really well.
Vamos.

 Such a horrible draw for both my favourites
Juan Martin deserves a title but I feel Nikolay needs a good run here more to truly get on that return track, he needs to back up that Rotterdam run.
I dont know how the court plays but if Kolya plays anything like the Rotterdam semi against Roger (and if he isnt bothered by that knee), I can see Playstation Denko taking this. Kolya in good form is a nightmare matchup for Delpotro. He will move him around like no tomorrow.

Come on, Kolya. You can do this. Hold on to the form you showed last week.

Looks like Kolya also brought the Playstation in Marseille. It should be a fun match to watch. :)

Davy is going to win this, he has exactly the game that Delpo doesn´t like, look what Fed did with him and was serving like crap-so even good serving Kolya is like crap serving Roger but in rallies it will be the same - instead of too much variety this time Delpo will be bothered by too quick game, left-right, no errors, Delpo´s timing will be pretty bad, he will go for winners, because Kolya will play quick and moving him from one corner to another, i expect a lot of UE from Delpo and really only his serve can save him here, but i still expect DAvydenko to win this

Playstation tennis for the win, unless there's appearance fee money circling the drain.

Interesting match indeed!
If Kolya indeed manages to hang on to his level and style of play of last week, he surely has a good chance to win this. However much I appreciate Del Potro as well, here's rooting for Denko. DAVAI!

Well I'm rooting for Delpo but I don't mind too much if Denko wins this as it's nice to see him recovering some of his late '09/early '10 form. Definitely a nightmare match-up for Ponyboy, but I believe he will be motivated by the thought of revenge and will want to continue his momentum from last week as well. Vamos!

Kolya indeed can cause Delpo in trouble, but I don't think he can win this. Maybe first for him then two for Del Potro.

Juan Martin in 3, something like 6-7 6-3 6-4.

Davydenko almost beat his least favorite top player on HC last week. This week, he has his 2nd favorite instead.

its a shame davydenko has to face the goat so early in the tournament. i predict him to go down in 3 hard fought sets.

Davydenko is a bad match up for most big hitters, he's 3-1 vs Del Potro, 9-2 vs Berdych, and 2-0 vs Tsonga.

Del Potro will need to serve huge and not finish points off with big shots otherwise he has no chance really considering the way Davydenko's been playing of late.

Saying that I have faith in my man, Juan in 3.

Nikolay should take this pretty easily. He has been playing some very good tennis and his play style is one that Del Potro does not want to play: consistent, deep, on-the-rise hitting. Takes away time from Del Potro and puts him in uncomfortable positions to hit winners from.

If Davydenko brings any level that he had from last week, then he can win in 2 sets. JMDP was atrocious in his last match :o. Should be a really nice match to watch though (on paper anyway). Looking forward to it.

Hope so, yep.
Don't get me wrong, I like JMDP as well, but Denko just needs some big wins a little bit more right now I think.

JMDP was atrocious in his last match :o.

Speaks TONS about Berdych getting annihilated only one day before. :p

Ya I can't believe how sharply Pony's level fell from the Berdych match to the Federer match. Absolutely nightmare, that first set, from the Delpo fan's perspective :o I like both these guys so I don't care who wins as long as it's competitive. Delpo better not lose another 6-1 set though or I will be so mad :(

It has a lot to do with matchups I think.
Berdych and DelPotro play what one might say a 'same' style of game, and JMDP happened to be a lot, lot better than Tomas on that particular day. Federer, and Davydenko, are of a different breed: their way to make life difficult for hard-hitters is to aggressively force them to move around very quickly, in which they will only succeed when somehow being able to avoid making a lot of UEs themselves.
They only manage to do so irregularly though.

Even though Fed demolished JMDP pretty easily in that first set of the Rotterdam final, one shouldn't forget that JMDP got plenty of good chances during the second. The Rotterdam final surely wasn't as much as a blow-out as JMDP's semi against Berdych was.

Looking forward to a great match. Hopefully.

Well said, Sunset of Age. I personally believe that if Delpo had taken one of his bajillion break points in the 2nd set (okay, fine, one of five bp's), he might have pushed it to a 3rd set and then who knows what would have happened? Credit to Federer for playing amazing on most of those break points even if Delpo did push a very makeable bh long on one of those bp's :o

Yeah same, I like JMDP too, but Denko is good for the game when he's playing great. I just think dP hasn't been all that impressive except for the beatdowns over Troicki and Berdych. Other than that, he's been dogshit. So yeah, for sure, it's a winnable match for Davydenko.

Berdych probably had a bad day is all. Shit happens.

I'm very disappointed about Del Potro's form in Rotterdam final.

Davydenko always is a very difficult opppnent for Del Potro. So I think Davydenko will win, no matter how many sets.
