Del Pony is back :worship:

Watched from end of first set, Berdych was pretty bad but you have to give Delpo some credit for that, he was playing consistent, aggressive tennis with few errors, forcing Thomas to succumb in the rally or play the low percentage shots. BH worked very well for Pony today. Also clutch play to recover from 3 errors at 2-0 *0-40.

Federer overwhelming favorite for the final but Juan should keep it closer than in Australia.

Del Potro's ballbashing was too good, plus he defends a lot better than Berdych. Very comfortable for the Tandil Tower.

Berdych had an easy short ball but didn't got anywhere del Potro at the net, when it was the easiest way to win the point.

Delpo's serve is ON today. Berdych is pretty bad :tape:
A late challenge on Berdych's serve at 0*-1 30-40 totally destroyed Berdych
88% FS won by Delpo :D

Berdych.... what a choke and terrible performance overall. Delpo was solid, but still if Tomas played better could have won, that game 0-40 he should have broken that serve and it was still open, after that he mentally collapsed, his FS again horrible under 50% in, and so many errors in longer rallies... really this was i think his worst performance this season

The match certainly didn't live up to expectations.

Berdych was disappointing to say the least. He served awfully. 49% first service pct on a faster court won't cut it against a top player like del Potro.

Del Potro played very well, served well, returned well.

Hopefully the final will be more competitive.

Respectfully,

What? I'm actually a Del Potro fan so you'd better shut your mouth before stating such thing. This is an ATP 500 Semi-Final and Berdych is a Delpo's bitch and, considering this, can't find any reason to overreact.

Shocking. Del Po was a lot more consistent with his power, Berdych served poorly and let a few bad things get to him. I never thought this would end up so one sided though, even after the first set.

I want more than anything for Del Po to win if Fed beats Davy, but as is my track record for picking winners, Del Po will lose in straights.

Not many players can overpower someone like Berdych and make it look easy. Plenty of loose errors from the Czech, helped mainly by Del Potro out-serving and outhitting him from the back of the court and rushing him into the net. Nobody in the top 4 wants to play Del Potro.

but the Argentine still takes too long to challenge. 2nd set *1-0 bp down, Berdych serving. says to the chair ump "how long can he take to challenge between serves? 1 hour? What kind of challenge is that?" He's 100% right.

lol. Birdshit crumbling after losing his nerves when del po challenged and was right on an ace birdshit hit. Lots of players I see going up to check the mark and then challenging the serve ace so it wasn't out of line.

This confirms to me that delpo hits harder off both wings than anyone else in the game. I had thought berdych was right there but it showed me that berdshit cannot hang with delpo from the baseline. Impressed with del po's movement and defense... If he plays like today he wins this event regardless who is in the final..

Delpo a huge danger to any of the top 4 and i like his chances if he draws nole in a night match at the us open if he keeps his level going.

Let's not overreact... Del Potro has played two excellent matches, but the top 4 are at a completely different level, and all of them can expose Delpo's relatively poor movement in ways Troicki and Berdych simply can't.

However it is realistic that Delpo will clinch the number 5 spot later this year. I don't see Ferrer repeating the great HC results from last year, and Berdych and Tsonga are too inconsistent.

Just the way this matchup plays out. Doesn't say much. If one player drops the ball the other usually runs away with it.

That said, Berdych looked a bit tired, didn't serve that well and fell into the same trap Soderling does sometimes vs Delpo. He played without patience and opened up the court too much as D-pot got a very good running forehand and can be aggressive on shots where Berdych is used to getting a defensive shot back.

Good match from DelPo.
Some life is getting into his game now, he seemed to move with some energy and putting some more pace on the ball.
Once he gets confident in his shots he'll be able to add pace without too many errors.

The movement has picked up a little too.

Still not there no matter what the score says but he has more tournaments lined up.

03/05/2012 Indian Wells,
03/19/2012 Miami.

When DelPo lines up tournaments like this he has a goal and feels very good about himself.

This is going to be good...........

Berdych didn't play badly at all. The match was high quality for the most part. Delpo is finding his old form, and with improvements. He's not quite there yet, but he's getting there.

VAMOS DELPO!! :D

I was actually really surprised. I was worried for Delpo when he faced Berdych. However Delpo played deep, aggressive, he didn't give Tomas a chance to get into his rhythm, and its definitely a great sign when Juan signs up for consecutive tournaments. I can't wait :)

Today just proved that it's not a REALLY bad matchup for Berdych and rather this was one of Berdych's worst performances of the year so far. (along with his IW and Miami losses)

Actually a few key points at certain junctures at the match costed him dearly at the end. Just a few unlucky points here and there and the match was over in like an hour. Berdych could have won this IMO, he had good leads on delPo's serve in this match but just got unlucky at certain moments.
