what an awful match:o

verdasco was crap and thats the only reason it was close

marti was up 5-2 and 0-40 on verdasco's serve but verdasco saved all 3 points and then managed to fend off another one after double faulting to give marti a 4th match point. after marti let that game go he won a wopping 3 of the next 16 points

and this is the future of spanish tennis?

Outmugging Verdasco. Now that's a difficult accomplishment. Congrats, Marti! :yeah:

One of the most hilarious matches ever, Verdasco serving at 2-5 final set, 0-40, before Marti goes into total meltdown and wins like two points in the next five games. He couldn't even find the court. He was so bad even his racket smash failed.

Epic.

:haha:

Basically did what Soderling did last year to him to Marti.

Nando . Almost losing to this guy? :o I really can't be bothered with the rollercoaster of Verdasco fandom anymore. He got lucky Javi is a choker with less experience than he. Otherwise he'd be sent packing beating early again :wavey:.

Whatever Nando :bigwave:.

Awful defeat at the beginning of his career, actually everything went wrong for him since losing that triple match point, he couldn't even break his racquet properly :)
Verdasco is a part-time choker but amazingly experienced including great deal of match point down wins, once he won that 8th game the final outcome was never questioned.

Ratio W/UE from both players in this match should be
Verdasco 25/50
Marti 2/20

am I wrong ?

Verdasco would be proud of such choking performance.

No doubt he learned from Nando the Godfather of all chokes.

It sounds like Marti was attempting to demonstrate his profound respect for his rival by emulating him.

javier what a choke :cuckoo:
what comes into his defense is that he started making such a breakthrough last year, he was still playing futures then... he's not that used to big stage...
i'm sure he'll be much better soon :yeah: and he's also able to fight back when he's trailing, on the lower level of games... so he's not mentally hopeless

Surprised nobody has mentioned Marti's potential quality once he shifts the kinks. Messed this one up, which is to be expected with his low experience at any level, let alone ATP. Can't be denied that he is a massive bandwagon waiting to happen.

Right now, he's only narrowly losing to the quality of players such as Gabashvili and to a lesser extent Nando. Pretty decent methinks.

Five days later Marti choked another match, to Paire in Buenos Aires. Capable youngster

Say what you want about Verdasco but he brings entertainment. I'd go to his court in the early rounds of tournaments. If he sucks too bad you can mock him and get entertainment that way

Fernando is always a crowd-pleaser one way or the other
