Borna Coric is the best Croatian junior player, he is the youngest player in the top 100 (39), one of the most talented young players in the world so he deserves his own thread.

Tomorrow starts a G1 tournament in Traralgon, Australia. In the first round Borna will play against Stefano Napolitano- #10 on the junior ranking.Napolitano is 1 year and 7 months older than Borna and he is #8 seeded on this tournament.

It's cool you opened this thread!

Let's talk about Borna know. We finaly know how hight he is:

http://www.itftennis.com/mens/players/player.asp?player=100165708

So, he is 181 cm which is really good with his 15 years and 2 months. So he will probably be around 185-187 what is the best for the tennis. We know more details now. His is back to Zagreb, trains in academy of Vjeran Friscic. He was living in Split and was playing in TK Split for a 2 years or something. But there is one mistake for sure: his favourite surface is clay. They call him "Croatian Coria" :)

Vjeran Friscic is his new coach. He is one of the most famous croatian trainers. He is something like Pilic's generation.

In the 2nd round Borna will play against Mackenzie Mcdonald from USA who is old just like Napolitano so he is 1 year and 7 months older then Borna.

He is #131 on junior ranking.Last year he lost in first round in Orange Bowl and on Eddie Herr he didn't enter in the main draw.It could be easier match for Borna than in the first round, only thing it may be trouble is that Borna played really long match yesterday (almost 3 hours) while Mcdonald beat Thompson 6-2 6-3 in 1 hour and 22 minutes.

I think he strugled with heat in Australia. He is almost 14 and he played vs best juniors who are awaystronger and older. Or he is injured cause in last two maches (1st round here and last match on previous tournament he quit or had MTO).
However, he show in Australia that even now he can compete vs player placed from #10 till #15. He beat number #10, was really close vs coppejans in america, beat #with 6:2, 24. He took one set vs coppejans, vs napolitano too, shoul do that vs coppejans too and yesterday vs that Greek guy.
From players born 1996 he and quinzi are the only guys beat top 10 players. Actually Noah Rubin beat top 10 player but his opponent retired at 0:6, 0:2, he was injured, we can't count that. They are top 3. Both have one win. Borna was one month younger when.he won while Italian played vs Brit on clay on his home soil.
He lost in the doubles 6:2, 2:6 6:10.
Interesting Quinzi and Rubin didn't go to AO, they are playing around Florida, where they are sitated. I like Borna did, cause you will improve the most vs top players. I don't no way but Quinzi skiped almost all grade A tornaments: Wimbledon, Indian Wells, Yucatan, Orange Bowl, Australian Open, he was only on USO. Maybe he skiped that tournaments because his team think he isn't yet ready for best juniors.

Man, than you very much for this picture !!!!!
I really like Borna attitude on this picture Something similar he acts on that video befor Orange Bowl U-14 final. Without that attitude you can',t reach the very top. "I am the best and I know it", full of confidence. Remindes me on Djokovic, Tomic, Krajinovic. But not that arogant like first two.
I like Filip, too. They are really only good prospects from Croatia.
And one good thing: Borna is higher than 181 because Veger has 185 atleast and they are equal high.

My mistake but I was simply looking the top juniors born in 1996 where they are on ATP level...I didn't assume that there are players that are way out of top 100 in junior competition and already playing senior tournaments...but it's ridiculous...this Tal Goldengoren for example...he is only 15 years old and he played 10 senior tournaments already (of course all of them are in Israel) and that's not all, almost every tournament he played senior or junior are in Israel.Sorry but that's not interesting to me.He is officially the best player born in 1996 on ATP list but for real he is no near Coric or Quinzi in quality or talent for sure...and he will not be #1 for a long time I'm sure in that...

They played two times last year against each other:

Pancevo G2 semi-final: Gerlakh won 6-1 7-5

Who knows how this is gonna end...Good luck Borna!!!

In QF Borna plays Bambridge. He's seeded lower than Borna (#7 vs #4) but is ranked higher this week (#37 vs #41).

That's because last week Bambridge won the G2 in France and moved up 19 spots. However, he had a very easy draw--all his opponents were unseeded. Also, last month he won the Gerdau (Grade A) doubles title.

Good luck, Borna!

Not needed after this video I saw. I can see he has great backhand, solid forehand, bad serve and great movement.
On the other side, Qunzi is away stronger psihically, higher. He has bigger shots, punch through the ball and he is away slower. He is equally good from both wings and has better serve.

All at all Coric can become good player. He has all the talents, but his serve is so doubtful. He is not high plus his serve montion is not good, should punch the ball from higher point.

Borna has recently been in relatively poor form: in his last five tournaments leading up to this week he had been 2-5 in singles and 5-5 in doubles; and his ranking is down to #52 (down from his CH of 20).

This week in Osaka he has taken advantage of a very weak draw (for a GA) to reach the SF in singles and F in doubles. He will cut his ranking in about half, to about 26.

Borna is around 187 (maybe 185) height but is tiny and he was 182 just few months ago.

Borna won 6:3, 6:3 vs Bjelica (#355)!!! Next one is Toni Androic (#309)!
He is in the 2nd round of doubles, too (partnering Miocic).

When you see how easily he beat Panfil (#523) and this guy you know he is really good talent.

Solid win for Borna

Just solid?
Kokkinakis has Just one win out of 4 matches vs players ranked in mid 300's. Made it wih 16 and a half (3 months older).
Quinzi has 3 out of nine matches. Made it first one like Borna (16 y, 3 m) but beated #220 ranked player (the other two are around 300th spot). Borna is on 1:1.
Quinzi played 49 matches,Kokkinakis played 31 while Borna played just 9.
When that young beat so convinsigly 13 years older guy, that's good enough.

E.g. Adam Pavlasek (who Borna beated last year) who is one of better ranked player generation 1994 doesn't have victory over player ranked in mid 300's.

It's good to see how he developes well. Year ago he lost easily vs player ranked around 350th spot while this year he beated easily.

Yeah, Dzumhur (20) will be top 50 or top 100 regular. Very good player.

^ Good luck to Borna this week.

Reaching the SF (doable, considering he's the top seed) would lift him to #4 in the world.

He has a problem with atemp of the new conditions, I think.
However big thing is he can play 50:50 matcg vs top 250 talented youngster (Dzumhur).

This week, Borna is playing the G1 in Malaysia. He's defending SF in singles and RU in doubles--and that's exactly where he has gotten this week so far.

If he wins his SF match, he'll pick up an extra 20 points and move up to #4 in the world. Unfortunately, it's against Saito, the guy who beat him last week in Thailand. An encouraging sign is that he has lost only 12 games in three matches this week whereas Saito has lost 26 games.

Better luck to Borna this time!

An encouraging sign is that fact I already stated: he needed a time for suit to conditions (what he was complainig on his FB profile).

EDIT: Borna lost only 4 games vs Saito (3&1). He won doubles title, too.

Tommorrow will be one rare situation for Borna, he will play vs younger player. The South Korean boy is younger 6 weeks than him and is ranked #83 (CH: #46). The guy is really good, he played final of Eddie Herr and more important (cause Eddie Her isn't strong like it was before) he beated Ymer at AO easily and played 3 setter vs Quinzi at Traralgon (pre-AO tournament). It's seems Japan and South Korea work well with youngsters recently.

This is generally very true. In this case, however, he lost in the SF to Norrie 3 and 4, and also lost in the doubles QF.

I really thought he was going to win both titles again this week

He talking about 2013 so far, his plans for the rest of the year, training, his coaches and what he'd like to improve in his game.
He will mainly play Futures in the rest of the season but big plan is to perform well in the Roland Garros "because clay is his worst surface". His favourite tournament is Wimbledon.
