Andy wasn't at his best however won

Gilles played excellent for 2 sets then made some silly errors in tb and fell apart afterwards

btw great point for Murray for 6*2 in tb 2nd set

Gilles played beautifully throughout most of the match, such a joy to watch when he's into it. :hearts:

Did Muller have mps?
Or bps from 3-3 2nd set?

A point away from match point once, I think.

Both player's performances varied from brilliant to pathetic but never at the same time.
Murray in genuine mopey-gropey mode in the 1st set and Müller should have finished him off in the second. After completely failing in the TB, however, Müller decided to just combust on the spot.
Did he even manage to touch any ball in that 3rd set (excluding his own toss I mean)?

Pretty hilarious, actually. If you like watching trainwrecks.

Murray should have lost this. Muller hit about 4 poors errors in the TB.

Dedicating a professional tennis result to a random forum poster doesn't make sense so theres nothing to "get".

Sapeod spent all last year saying that the only reason Novak wins is because his opponents play like shit against him

First tournament back is nothing to get worked up about. If Murray plays like this mid-season, I'll kick him in the nuts with my words too, but 2nd match back from the off-season? They're bound to be rusty.. and both were.

I'm not a murray fan but who gives a damn about form in warm-up tournaments. Look at Federer, the only time he won a warm tournament or exho and the AO was in 2006. In that year Roger won Doha and then won the AO playing some of his worst tennis ever in a slam that he won.
In 2005 and 2011 he won Doha and lost in the AO.
In 2004, 2007 and 2010 he didn't win any tournament before the AO and ended up winning the AO. Look at 2007, Roddick was all pumped up after having MP against Roger in the 2006 TMC and beating him in Kooyong. We know what happened in the famous 2007 AO semi.

Despite all this I truly believe murray will go slamless in 2012. lol

I get what you're saying.
My point his that murray's form in Brisbane is no indicator of how he'll fare in the AO. Murray still has at least 2/3 matches facing easy opposition in the AO.

He's maybe not had much court time in the offseason, after the groin injury.

Probably quite fortunate he was scheduled for a tournament tbh, his normal fooling around at Hopman wouldn't have been much use.

I think having a couple of tough initial matches and coming through is a good thing. Ultimately what the top 3 does so well is to play at 60% first 5 matches, then in the SF turn the dial up to 100% and then 120% in the final with attacking tennis. Here's hoping Lendl can drill this attitude into Andy and cut out the mental lapses.

This Mugray is too good. Winning in 3 sets against way weaker players than him, just to have the perfect match practice at the AO! It's all a plan!

Yep - that must be why the much-hyped-on-MTF Tsonga took 3 sets yesterday to beat a player ranked #118. Cunning plans indeed.

Watched the match and as usual Murray made life as difficult as he could. He's a very talented player but my goodness you can't warm to him-the chuntering, swearing, feeling sorry for himself, piss-poor body language make him infuriating. The collapse of his serve at the end of the first set is typical of the mental weakness that Mr Lendl will hopefully help with;otherwise he will never win a slam.

legs were too thick here... the lendl effect obviously kicking in in the 3rd set too which is great to see after such a short time working together...

i expect murray to take a few more to the bakery here...

But they did. Murray's not exactly playing well here atm, and neither are his opponents. I don't really see the point of your post. Murray and his opponents aren't playing well and Djokovic's opponents last year didn't play well either. Did you think I thought Murray's opponents played wonderfully? Is that it? You dedicated what to me? The fact that Kukushkin and Muller (low tier players) are playing badly against Andy, who is also playing rather weakly? I already know that
murray is pure comedy
Murray can be pretty funny actually. I prefer watching Del Potro trying to move around, though. It's far funnier.

I find it funny that even with a slam, Del Potro's career is still far inferior to Andy's.

Think about it. You have a slam, yet your career is still inferior to someone who doesn't have one  Hell, even Albert Costa has a masters title

ronpon
01-04-2012, 08:03 PM
Sapeod,

I think Andy would forgo all his Masters titles for one slam. And to be be fair to Delpo he has suffered injuries which have blighted his career to date. So a bit of realism please on the dark side or is that the dark isle? I realise that a lot of winding up is going on between you and others on the forum but a sense of realism should prevail. Winning a Slam by Andy is his one and overiding goal for 2012!

Typical Mugler: has Pushray by the throat in the second set at 4-3 15-40 with virtual MPs, can't convert and then chokes horribly in TB with that easy putaway volley. Predictable collapse in the third set too, should be fined for that performance. Mugray is lucky to play clowns all week, as soon as he meets someone decent, he'll lose.
