Robredo will pull out (surgery)

Source? Anyhow, if confirmed, bad for Boredo, but great for Gil, who this way has a decent SA clay swing, with at lesat two Direct Acceptances. Hope he can take some advantage, and overcome this dreadful last 6 or 7 months.

What happened with Almagro?

Didn't they wanted to pay 1 million to him again? :p

Sadly, I doubt Nalbandian will really come when he is playing Davis Cup in Germany on the eve and his home event a week later. A last minute withdrawal seems likely here.

It would be fair that the remaining WCs go to Tiago Fernandes and Rogerio Dutra Silva.

Gil out of the QD cause he's in the MD now. About other portuguese, I don't know, but I can see Gastão giving a try here. He works with his coach in Brazil, so why not?

I cant see fernandes winnin a match here :/

Yes, but it would be a good experience for him.

If it doesn't go to Fernandes, it should go to Clezar. They are the most promising Brazilians at the moment. But Clezar already got one last year...

Ridiculous. Why didn't he use his ranking to get into the Main Draw? Now we won't be able to give a young player the oportunity to play an ATP 250. Clezar should have gotten this second one. Now the last one will probably go to Rogerio Dutra Silva.

erickmartins
01-21-2012, 01:05 PM
With so many brazilian youngsters coming up right now, the fact that two WCs were "wasted" with foreigners that probably won't even bring that much public to the event really pisses me off.

The last WC needs to go to Guilherme Clezar.

TennisOnWood
01-21-2012, 11:42 PM
14 U20 players from Brazil in Top 1000 at the end of 2011. and now they need to vaste WC on Almagro.. sad

BrunoBeidacki
01-22-2012, 04:12 AM
Yeah, without doubt, if they are going to give the last WC to a young player, Guilherme Clezar needs to get it. He turned 19 in the last day of 2011, and it's already in top 300.

Didn't he say that he won't play Davis Cup anymore?? No matter anyway, Ferru doesn't need more 250s tournament for a while so I'm sure he won't ask.

Top 20 players should not be allowed to ask for wildcards to 250s, between he and Verdasco always doing this...this is just annoying :o

Well, I live in Sao Paulo and would be more inclined to buy tickets to see Almagro and Gonzalez than Clezar, but that's just me. Clezar is playing lower tier tournaments in Brazil every often, Almagro isn't.

But the real issue here is Almagro requesting a WC when he could have entered the tournament in the first place. The a-hole just did this to put pressure on the organizers so they could pay him some big appearance fee.

Ferrer and Verdasco will play DC. Or else Lopez, not Almagro.

Not nice to not enter normally, but an interesting player for the tournament.

Strange to see some people complaining about the WC given to Gonzalez and Almagro. Clezar or Fernandes cannot even win the matches to qualify for the main draw. Leaving nationalism behind both Gonzalez or Almagro are even more interesting to see than any of the uprising Brazilians who I know they have a potential future on tennis but can hardly win matches on the CH tour on these days. Even don't forget that Almagro is a clear contender to win the title. WC for Fernandes and Clezar for Q would be more realistic.

Just saw that Almagro is indeed playing DC and Ferrer is not. Then it's a bit strange, to ask for a WC in a whole other continent just the day after a DC-weekend.
But we'll see how it turns out. He probably only plays DC on Friday.

Same city, not same place. This tournament is played on clay... while the challenger one was played in hard court.

By the way, anyone knows who got the last WC? I heard they gave it to Javier Marti, but I'm not sure if this information is correct... it would be just ridiculous.

I'm glad Marti will play qualies, but I'm still looking to see who got the last WC. The first 2 went to Almagro and Gonzalez, but hope they give the last one to a brazilian... probably Clezar, since Rogerio Dutra da Silva gave in interview saying that they won't give him the WC and he will have to play the QD.

Why is this tournament, in Warm, nice Brazil, played indoors?? Is it rain-season at the moment? Or will it be to hot so they can play indoors with AC cooling

Interesting, it's been a while since we've seen an indoor clay event. (Not counting retractable roofs in Hamburg and Madrid).

There's still a chance he'll be seeded top 4. In any case, it's unlikely he'll play a live rubber Sunday.

Today it rained A LOT in São Paulo, and the weather in Brazil is always crazy, we never know if we'll have a really hot day or raining storms, so... I think it was a great choice, I HATE when matches are delayed because of the rain.

Pirata.

I'm assuming Fernandes got it, because Sant'anna and Clezar are both in the QD but Fernandes is not.

Why Fernandes or Marti, really?

Fernandes - Played awful last 4 months... not one single good result.
Marti - It's a good player, I agree, but he doesn't have anything to do with Brazil.

Why don't give to Clezar, that is a promise like Fernandes, but it's playing really well?

Anyway, I still think they gave it to Christian Lindell.

So nic eof them to give a MD wildcard to Almagro, who should've signed in properly, instead of to young players like Clezar, Fernandes or Lindell.

Pretty outrageous that all three WCs have gone to foreigners. It's not like there aren't any Brazilian players that could have made good use of them.

Gonzalez WC is the only one I support, Almagro was an economical decision which is understandable, Marti was a political one which is pretty pathetic.
