Who does these draws, seriously?

i wish davy could win this. It would do wonders for his confidence and it does mean so much more for him to be able to do well here

but if davy's recent encounters against top players are anything to go by roger should take this relatively easily

Who does these draws, seriously?

There are a bit too many draw coincidences in Doha and Dubai in my opinion. Dubai 2008 was very sus. Federer v Murray round one among others.

its just such an awful draw for davy to start the year on

Means the 12th career matchup between Rogie and Tsonga (i.e. Madrid 2008 was Rogie-Tsonga I, Canada 2009 was II, AO 2010 was III, and the 8, yes 8, matchups in 2011 were: IV, V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, and XI).

Rogie's likely path to the final: Davy, Bubka, Seppi, and Tsonga

Rafa's likely path to the final: Kolhi, Starace, Dr. Youzhny, and Mugfils

Might finally get Rogie vs. Rafa in the F in Doha. 2010 it was derailed by Davy beating Rogie in the SF and he also beat Rafa in the F. 2011 it was again derailed by Davy beating Rafa in the SF, but Rogie beat Davy in the F. In 2012, I'm thinking it finally happens, Davy will NOT derail it 3 years in a row, Rogie over Davy (not sure if 1/2 or 1/3 yet though).

Tricky first rounds for both Roger and Rafa. But Nadal looked alright in AD, he must find a way to beat Phillip (though I would love Kohli to get one oh him, he has ben close a number of times and the dude has a most magnificent backhand:worship:). As for Federer, this isnt the matchup he wanted in the first round. Maybe a QF against Davydenko would have been a good deal. But the first official match of the year against a player as good as Davy, on the back of drubbings in AD, not the perfect New Year gift for him:( If Fed is rusty, that wont help him against a guy like Davy. But I still expect him to take this in three. He will be a lot more focused here and losing in the first rd and AD after that 17 match streak in the fall will do him no good at all.

After that, his draw becomes a lot easier really, till the SF at least. And if Fed and Tsonga meet again!:o

Guy's been in hiding for months; no one knows which Davydenko will show up
I like Davy so I'm unhappy about this draw, but obviously I'm cheering for Roger. He didn't look great in the exo, but hopefully that means zilch.

Federer in 2, 7-5 7-5.
Playing average tennis, he will eventually lose to the champion, JWT.

Davydenko in two easy sets . If nadal beats him 1 and 5, davy will win 1 and 2

Roger is an awful match up for Davydenko. Roger was in exo mode in Abu Dhabi & he's not going to lose 1st round to a rusty Davy. Tsonga for this title - he's in the best form out of the top 4 seeds & has an easy draw. Also unless Nadal does very well in the first few matches & wins easily I don't even think he's that interested in the title - he's treating it as warm up - kind of like Queens where he wants a few matches and then doesn't bother.

I would never bet on any Davydenko match regardless if he is favourite or not.The guy can beat any top player but also lose to a complete unknown any day.But in this kind of match he has to play great and hope that Federer is not playing that well. But it`s been ages since Davydenko played anything decent.Pretty much u have to look back 1 year ago.

Seriously the only problem Roger Federer has now is how to get rid of that ugly cystic acne.
I can't believe he is playing and walking around like that. I would withdraw and treat it

Not to mention Dubai 2011, where Roger had all the WCs neatly placed on his quarter and all the qualifiers neatly placed on the other quarter of his half. He sailed through that draw...until he met Novak in the finals.

I am really looking forward to this match. Davy is tricky opponent for R1. Really shame that last year finalist, and 2010 champion in Doha is not seeded, but what we can do. Davy is kind of player who is better on best of 3 and if he will be in form he can beat Roger why not. I will not judge Roger from his Abu Dhabi performance- it was exhibition, but he needs to play good if he Davy will have good day.
