Neil Harman (the Times) has reported today that Andy is poised to bypass the DC tie against Belgium on Easter weekend.

Not impressed if he does this. There isn't much stopping him flying in from Miami early in the week, turning up for both of his matches, and then heading off early to Monte Carlo to begin his clay court training.

Indian Wells didn't go according to plan, and there is no guarantee that he will go deep into the second week of Miami, let alone play the final.

He's getting a bit too selfish imo, and this is a tie that we most certainly cannot win without him.

He read I'd already bought my ticket and just couldn't handle the pressure :lol:

Andy avoided tripping up as at Indian Wells with a 62 63 win over Falla - no livestream but from scoreboard and twitter commentary from people on-site, Andy was preetty comfortable but a bit tense at times, perhaps understandably.

Quarterfinals against Tipsy. Could be a tough match. Janko's gonna be aggressive I think.

I guess they're in a place where Andy doesn't need him courtside for every match, more the training and practice sessions that they're focusing on.

I thought it was a bit scrappy from Andy - very good at times, a bit ragged at other points. Gillou always makes him hit a lot and move a fair bit, even though Andy usually makes sure he's moving Gillou far more. After the enforced break from the Raonic w/o he looked decent enough though and he should be warmed back up again to face Tipsy - who is always a tough test for Andy. I hope for an Andy win, but a loss wouldn't surprise me too much - Tipsy on a hot day can overpower him and he seems to like Andy's game.

So far this match is as scrappy as I expect. He's up a break in the third now.

And he wins in typical Andy style. Seemed to have an upset stomach as well. :hug:

I just feel so horrible about this. It be fine if Djokovic was playing really well, like he did in the first set against Ferrer, but he was pretty awful in the humidity. -19 winners to errors differential for Djoker, he wins with this scoreline?!? Murray just seemed rusty and have a bad game plan and mentality. I really hope it has more to do with the weird lack of match play, but I don't like the way things are going.

The French crowd was hilarious. And not only did Andy didn't let them affect him, he seemed to enjoy ribbing them right back. :lol:

Really pleased with the result, the way he won in the last two sets, and the crowd dramas - I love that with Murray and the French crowds - he doesn't give a tiny rat's ass how they boo him. He feeds off of it.

Great run to the quarter final. Andy feeds off adversity very well, uses it to challenge himself further. The way he handled the boos from the French crowd is testament to his strong character. He also has a point to prove against Ferrer on clay. Good luck today.

Nobody in this thread all match so I don't know if I was the only one getting all pissed off in the first two sets :o Got it done in the end though, good on him.

I was very wound up as the second set wore on and he seemed flat, it wasn't clicking, he was hanging on by a thread. He was very lucky not to go 2 sets down, but he played a good second set tiebreak and was very mentally strong after that.

It's a good thing I had to do a shit load of cooking today given that it's the United States birthday. Otherwise I would've gone crazy.

I'm happy he defended his points and very happy with how he closed out that match. :hearts:

9.5/10 mentally for me today, every important point he came up with a big serve or a winner.. really impressed the most mature performace ive ever seen from Andy, he was under the COSHH bigtime in that 2nd set, last year he'd have lost in 3, this year he toughed it in 4. I'm delighted for him!!

I'm so glad he won the Match :D But I do not see him defeating Roger in the Final :sad: I would like for him to defeat Roger in the Final, but I just can't see it happening! For one thing this was a big win for Andy and so many times after a big win the player who won will lose his next Match. For another it will be his first ever Wimbledon Final so he has no experience at all there while Roger has owned the Wimbledon Final :ras: Sorry I wish I could be more hopeful, but for right now I will just enjoy his Semi-Final victory :D

Andy Murray goes under a gigantic microscope in this country for a month, doesn't he? It's rather surprising how many people are fairweather tennis fans on these shores. As an avid user of social networking sites, it always makes me chuckle to see acquaintances pass comment on Murray and his efforts at Wimbledon. It's either positive and encouraging, or the usual nonsense ; 'dour, anti-English, Scottish twat'. Fifty weeks then pass before these comments are made again, ad nauseum. These comments are all very predictable, not to mention sad. Here is a man, on the cusp of becoming a legend of the game, who is largely unappreciated by his public.

Now, I am 21 years of age and I have followed Murray on an almost religious basis since 2005. I have amassed over 30,000 posts on this website and accrued well over 250 days of online activity. I have close to an encyclopaedic knowledge of his career. Despite these rather humiliating revelations, I think it qualifies me pretty sufficiently to give an informed opinion on Andy Murray.

Yes, he is dour. I would be the first to admit that. He is an introverted human being, who loves playing tennis, but dislikes the media frills that surround professional sport in this day and age. In interviews, his voice can be rather monotonous, and he can seem very unenthused to be sat in front of the media, after his exertions on a tennis court. Can you honestly blame him? Okay well, the voice could perhaps be altered slightly, but we would all love to sound like Richard Burton. However, contractual obligations to sit in a room with several journalists, a profession known for its backstabbing and devious characters, and answering the same questions, over and over again. I cannot say that I blame Murray for being guarded and bored by interviews. I would be the exact same.

Not to mention that in the summer of 2006, a tongue-in-cheek remark was taken out of context, twisted beyond recognition and splashed across the headlines of tabloid newspapers, in order to paint Murray as some sort of xenophobe. Some citizens of this country, who take the opinion of tabloid newspapers and who are unable to form their own, have since found it difficult to like Murray. As a naive teenager, Murray tried to be funny with the media and got his fingers burnt. I can see exactly why Murray doesn't give them anything exciting to talk about. Again, I would be the exact same

The most satisfying thing about it all is that he does not care. He is extremely single-minded, driven and highly ambitious, and does not care for what people think of him. Sure, he does appreciate the support that he receives at tournaments as he well should. But Murray knows he is a love-hate figure, and he does not mind, one iota. Here is a man whose family sacrificed so much in sending him to Barcelona to pursue his dream of becoming a professional tennis player. A man who possesses an incredible work ethic, and desire to improve and maximise every facet of his game, in order to land a grand slam.

He is the perfect role model for any young sportsperson. You don't see him rolling out of a London nightclub every other weekend, intoxicated with a vapid female companion in tow. Firstly, the exhaustive, all year round nature of tennis itself wouldn't allow for it, and secondly, it is just not Murray's style.

Many people in this country applaud and admire Roger Federer for his charisma and charm. Personally, I think he is smarmy, arrogant and far from genuine. An incredible tennis player and great champion, who could well win his seventeenth grand slam on Sunday, no doubt. However, Murray is, in my opinion, the most gracious and humble player on the Tour. I have never once heard him criticise an opponent pre or post-match. His acceptance speeches are awkward but heartwarming and endearing. Breaking down in tears, after losing a final in Melbourne, and after helping Team GB to victory in Glasgow were raw, honest displays of emotion from a man who does not pretend to be something he is not.

In defence of Andy Murray ; you are mostly misunderstood but I sincerely hope you win on Sunday. For yourself, your family and friends, your support team, and no one else. You are a star.

I will be here, probably at some point during the match I will start ranting about how much I hate Murray and how I will never do this to myself again, but...don't take it too seriously? :unsure: As always, I would get over it a few hours after the match.

It's just really bad luck for him to have to play at the same time as Roger, Rafa and Novak.
It's surely not easy to stay patient and hope for HIS moment to come but hopefully one day he gets the title he truly deserves and which will take a lot of pressure off his shoulders.

Ugh. I just can't anymore. I told myself I would not start watching until I knew how the first set went, but I did anyways and he won it and I started to believe! And then he missed those two bps early in the second set, and I had this horrible feeling in the pit of my stomach. It was the exact same feeling I had early in the Dubai final when he missed those two bps. And then it all slipped away.

I hate tennis. It's depressing and predictable and I wish I knew how to quit you.

And I know I can't give up Andy, no matter how many crushing defeats, because how much I like him as a person.

Today was very painful. Must say I am still hurting and each time I think about it then I have a little cry.


Today he played his heart out and the one thing I didn't want today was that roof to close. When it did I felt Roger was always the favourite.

Cheering for Andy to win a medal, any color. It would probably mean more to him than any other player. But, I'm so tired of seeing his girlfriend in the stands (I don't like her. Ditto for Mirka.)

He played pretty well again today taking down Nieminen 62 64. Jarkko didn't offer huge resistance until the end to be honest.

Andy playing poorly so far. I haven't seem him play so defensively in A LONG time.

Probably his nerves are bothering him, I know if I were in his place my nerves would be a mess :scared: But he got Marcos and next up is Nico!

I think he struggled with the change in conditions initially - he played his first two matches indoors and then this one was outdoors - always seems to take him a while to adjust to changes like that.

Plus, Marcos started very well and one poor service game middle of the first set was all the Cypriot needed to take that set. After that, Andy relaxed, and even though the third set was quite close, it was always Baghdatis chasing the score and trying not to make it worse for himself. Andy always looked the likely winner at that point.
