He lost in the qualifier to a Finnish tournament, then recieved a LL spot but was late to take it, so they gave it to someone else. He then asked this guy if he could pay him equal to what the spot was worth so he could get it anyway. The guy said no and then made a deal out of it and started to spread it around.

Harmless but really stupid from Lucas. Grats to the TIU tho..

I'm sure Chela/Volandri/etc are just trembling at this new-found effectiveness of the TIU.

Well, once TIU took care of the top player - called "Serbian star" - David Savic - they went down to check what's going on in the futures between the kids :yeah:

My image of the mens tennis is forever tainted by this.

Harmless? It's corruption ffs! It's illegal for a reason. Why go easy on your own players? Shouldn't they be held to the same standard of everyone else? Would you still be saying "harmless" if the player was say Spanish or Serbian?

To me the article and another interview sound like he lost in QR, got the LL but was late for the match, so that Robin Olin got the LL spot.

Renard then offered 600 € to a wildcard player (Huurinainen) to withdraw, so that another LL spot would be available for him. That's not really a harmless thing imo.

I dunno. Seems harmless compared to actual match-fixing. Kid was late for his match. Not accusing here, but we have seen Volandri do shadier things frequently in his career.

And I thought he had such massive potential...

With the current state of Swedish tennis this our future depends on corrupt teens. If TIU hadn't caught on Renard had bought his first slam a few years later. So close but now back to the drawing board

What is this world coming to when even Scandinavians are corrupted.

 all around.

Moral of the story. If you lose final round of qualifying, stick around another day or so, see if you can snatch a LL spot.
