Okay, let's talk about the big tournaments, where the so called "Big 4" played.


AO SF: Djokovic - Federer, Murray - Ferrer
IW SF: Djokovic - Federer, Nadal - Del Potro
Miami SF: Nadal - Federer, Djokovic - Fish
No Djokovic in Montecarlo.
Madrid SF: Nadal - Federer, Djokovic - Bellucci
Rome SF: Djokovic - Murray, Nadal - Gasquet
RG SF: Nadal - Murray, Djokovic - Federer.
Wimb SF: Nadal - Murray, Djokovic - Tsonga
Montreal SF: Djokovic - Tsonga, Tipsarevic - Fish
Cincy SF: Djokovic - Berdych, Murray - Fish
USO SF: Djokovic - Federer, Nadal - Murray
No Djokovic and also no Federer in Shanghai.
No Nadal in paris.
WTF SF: Federer - Ferrer, Tsonga - Berdych


So, the so named "Other semifnialists" were:
Ferrer: 4 SF (Including Montecarlo and Shanghai).
Tsonga: 4 SF (Including Paris).
Berdych: 3 SF (Including Paris).
Fish: 3 SF.
Tipsarevic, Del Potro, Isner, Melzer, López, Nishikori, Gasquet, Bellucci: 1 SF


Okay, so we have at least one of the big 4 in each SF, and all the tournaments won by one of them.
So, we can say (again...) that the big 4 are dominating the tour.

ATM Ferrer is the 5th player on the ranking, followed by Tsonga.
The big tournaments showed that both players had great seasons, reaching SF of so many big tournaments, Ferrer showing the world he isn't a claycourter, and Tsonga reaching 2 big finals.

So many people say Delpo was still recovering from his injury, so he couldn't play his best tennis and 2012 would be a different situation.
Soderling was abstent big part of the tour...

So... Who would you pick as the "5th one", that player who reach the semis when one of the Big 4 falls apart in the tournament.

My pick? Obviously Tsonga.

It's so weird, ferrer can't deliver on his massive clay skills at all, he's always blown chances there. But he overachieves a lot on HC

Delpo if he can get his conditioning back up to where it was before his wrist injury and wrist surgery.

Are you sure the Big 4 will reach semi of all GS in 2012 ?? I have my doubt about it

:facepalm: Ferrer has been doing this for years. His best surface is clay but many of his best results have been on hard courts.

He had an explosion of hard court results in 07 (US Open semi, WTF final), then for about a year was hopeless, then it's been gradually rebuilding back to current peak levels.

The way I see it, like a lot of native claycourters, he needs pretty much peak form on other surfaces. Clay he can get away with average form because of his defensive strengths, but his results will plummet on other surfaces because lack of depth makes him a sitting duck.

Tsonga. By a long way.

Tsonga. I think outside of the top 4, only he has the explosive game to cause shocks even when the supposed 'big 4' play at their best. Him, along with Del Potro (When fit and healthy). Virtually the rest of the tour has to rely on the top players having an off day to capatalise on their opportunities against them, but Tsonga's game is such, that he can just blow them off the court when he's on his best.
