he will be a very good player. It’s clear that he’s a candidate for No. 1. He will be amongst the first four players in the world next year. He’s a very complete player. He doesn’t have any cracks in his game. He’s very solid. He will be unstoppable next year if the wrist injury allows him.

Del Potro will win maybe 22 or so Slams so he's certainly the future.

what a troll this nadull!:lol::lol::lol:
does he seriously think del mugro will take over either fed or murray? Or maybe he meant himself will drop out of top 4 and DP will replace him, in which case he might be right:worship:

Very nice of Rafa to say this. :awww:

Hopefully he's right and JMDP will be back where he belongs next year.

Del Potro is a scary foe who can burn very brightly for periods as was experienced by Roger in the 2009 US Open final, but even this year against Djokovic and Nadal in RG and Wimbledon respectively. His shit wrist injury held him back for a long time and he's long overdue a real run of form now and a revisit to the top 5, in my opinion. In fact, he might have a chance for a Major next year for realz.

Like all ballbashers, he will have a hot streak, and then play crap for the rest of the year. Book it.

He looked good against Nadal, on the baseline, but Nadal isn't 100% or even close to it.
I wouldn't be surprised if he made a slam final though, but I would put money that he won't be ranked above #5 - Nadal was just being overly courtagious because he won the match.

I can see that with either Del Potro or Tsonga having such an impression on their face. It would be for the better for the sport unless Murray can eventually refine his forehand.

The funny thing about Murray and Del Potro match-up is this.

Tennis loses in the worst way ever.

Murray doesn't defeat him so much via technique. He defeats more relying on fitness. How pathetic is that? So Del Potro has the talent and tools to defeat Murray anywhere at anytime, but the problem is, his fitness lets him down, and thanks to that, Murray can defeat him at slams in that manner.

Rafa had some nice words for the defeated Del Potro, who was clearly feeling bad about the loss, and it's immediately turned into a negative.

We know that Nadal fears playing del Potro so it does make sense that he'd believe this can happen. It's not too far-fetched since del Potro did (briefly) get to #4 before. I don't see him physically able to sustain that ranking but he's capable of giving a scare to anybody when he clicks.

DelPo ended #11 this year, skipped tournaments and didn't play consistently especially late in the year.

Pretty good ranking for not being near your best.
He should improve a lot, if just the endurance is improved without anything else he'll move up some spots.

At least D-pot has way more mental strenghtness than Mugray. He went to his first final of a slam and he won to the master of the game. Mugray didn't even won a set in a final! If it wasn't for the injury, murray wouldn't be in the top 4. Also, if it wasn't for Soderking injury and mono he would be out of the top 5 as well. Time will give me reason... Murray is nothing more than a improved Gasquet, but with the same mental force!

yeah the guy who is likely to dominate an entire section of the tour (clay) and is a strong favorite in most events will fall out of top 4....

the same guy who handled Murray throughout 2011 and Federer on non-indoor surfaces.

if Del Potro breaks top 4, either Murray or Federer will be 5, at least in terms of liklihood

If Del Potro has no further injuries (including minor ones), he'll definitely be top 4. And in 2013, if he continues without any injuries, he'll win the calender year Grand Slam. You heard it here first.

You just need to watch how he handled Djokovic in RG and Nadal in Wimbledon (he should have won this match, if it wasn´t for that sneaky MTO), to know that he has the game to beat anyone. It´s just a shame he had that wrist injury.

well if Del Potro stays healthy and has a good AO;Miami;IW and good CCS he will be in the top 4  both Nadal and Federer have lost to Juan on hc in slams and would rather face Murray no matter the surface compared to DP in a slam as proven :tape:.See 2009 FO semis vs Roger and Sunday against Nadal in Madrid

Maybe Nadal thinks Del Potro will win a slam in 2012. After all the last time Del Potro reached the Davis cup final(2008) he won the USO the following year. Whoever goes slamless in 2012(think who is the most likely:secret:) might drop to #5, IF Del Potro rises to #4.

Interesting comments. I personally do not feel that Del Potro will reach top 4 next year. Even at his peak, in 2009, he was ranked no.5, and I certainly cannot see him reaching that peak next year. He still needs a lot of improvement on his movement and serve to break into the top 4. His consistency is also a problem, a few times this year we've seen vintage Del Potro, but he hasn't showed up a lot .

I think 2013 will be his year. Right now he's simply not ready to challenge top 4. Delpo will definitely improve his rankings next year. Likely top 8, not top 4.

He ended up at #11 this year and was not near his best and even skipped some tournaments.
When he hits his best as he's done in the past it came on suddenly, in 2008 he came out of nowhere and won 4 straight, I had to look him up at the time to see who he actually was.

In 2009 he hit his peak around the USO, before that he did very well but had endurance problems. His level at the end of the year was at least top 4.

Being older now he should be able to play at a higher level, all the elements are just about there now.

I'll be looking for some breakout tournament early next year, after that he should gain a lot of confidence. Once he has confidence in his shotmaking you'll see what DelPo is all about and his real prime.

Spot on.

Delpo was 65 points away from finishing in the top 10, despite his poor/mediocre slam results and skipping the final 2 Masters tourneys of the year. Not bad considering that he was ranked nearly 500 after the Australian Open.

Top 4 is a long way off being 11th, but with a year back on tour under his belt, there is no way that he fails to improve significantly on this season (especially considering his slam results this season).

Nadal knows what he's talking about.
After that match with DelPo it was enough information for Nadal to make that statement about DelPo reaching top 4.

DelPo isn't about movement, as Nadal said, he hits the ball like no other in the game.
A big statement but he wouldn't say it as he knows other players would know if it was wrong.

Now if DelPo does hit his high level who will it hurt the most?
Of the top 4 it will affect Nadal the most IMO.

It´s sad that a great player like del Potro missed two years at the very top due to an injury, but hopefully he reaches Top 4 next year.

He and Soderling should be in front of Murray in the rankings

I think he will be No.3 or No.4 at the end of 2012 and he will be very dangerous at the US Open.
