I thought i'd start a thread for the final part of the season

he'll be playing in the qualifying to get into basel next week

*bunny*

Thx for the thread, misty! :D

Gasquet has withdrawn from Basel, so I think Kei is in the MD.

*edit* O, wait. He will need another withdrawal. He's alt #2. Sorry!

*bunny*
10-28-2011, 01:29 AM
Kei received WC for Basel! :D

But apparently he still has some pains in the ankle he sprained in Shanghai. This week he's recovered to the point that he can play two sets. ...and of course he's aware that the field is very strong in Basel. He departed from Bradenton on Thursday, changing flights at Atlanta and Paris, and then onto Basel. Maybe he's still flying right now. Hope he can have some rest onboard and his ankle will get better!

Good luck in Basel, Kei

misty1

good to see he got a wild card

the extra rest of not having to play qualies will hopefully help

hopefully he gets a draw where winning a round or 2 is possible

 bunny, did you wake up before dawn?!
I had set the alarm for this, but only lasted the first 5-6 games before napping another hour or so before getting ready for work.

I thought Kei can beat top 10 players again but from the first few games, Berdych had it all under control...Kei is getting used to coming back and winning in 3 sets.

I hope to see a full match soon though, these hours really doesn't suit me.

I somehow got up at around 6 a.m. to check the score, thinking the match was over but and it was still 1-1 in the third set. :)
(And I went to bed after 3 a.m. because I watched Juanqui's match in Valencia! Crazy night!)

Is he playing Paris Indoors? Might go watch him if my schedule permits
He is scheduled to play qualies in Paris, but IF he reaches SF in Basel, he can enter the main draw there as SE. :)

he beat him fairly easily in qualifying earlier this year and he's in much better form now so he should win in straights again and set up a SF clash with djokovic or baghdatis

13 breaks combined

The start was ok, then it got ugly but finished the match point with an ace!
This was no walk in the park, I read too many post in GM thinking Kei was going to win it easy...but I thought it might end up being another battle or worst that he'll lose... at least he won at the end :)

Pretty long match, but should have enough time to rest/recover before SF, Nole or Baggy. Looking forward to this.

He's definitely not 100%. He looks uncomfortable around the shoulder and his serve is not as fast as usual.

He's definitely not 100%. He looks uncomfortable around the shoulder and his serve is not as fast as usual.
But Kei also got the ankle problem so I think it's quite even in that respect.

Thanks bunny, I can only really hear the sound...but the commentary is not in english,

BAGEL!

Now we can watch another final and at a bigger stage too.

He'll be playing against a Swiss. Kei is the underdog either way.

Awww I'm already feeling nervous!
Kei is the underdog so there's no point of me having butterflies, but to me his win over Djoko is a bit similar to Soderling's win over Rafa in 2009---a win over top player carrying an injury. Soderling proved it wasn't a fluke by reaching the RG final that year and went on to become a solid top 10 player. Kei has already reached the final so...

Before yesterday, I actually thought Kei would fare better against Federer than Djokovic, but Fed in a final is a completely different beast, and it's on his home soil!

Just hope it will be an exciting and entertaining match, which I think will happen if Kei can play to his potential!

Under 50% 1st serve usually won't cut it against top 30-40, let alone the world's best.

Reaching an ATP 500 final is a very good week (+ a win against Djokovic)

A lesson from master Federer today sends Kei back to earth.
Keep training Kei, I beleive in you.

Saludos!

Actually, his entry ranking this week is #24!
#25 is his race ranking. The ATP site now takes you to the race ranking first when you click "RANKINGS" so I got confused.

Wow I thuoght Djoko would pull out. But I'm a bit worried about the state of Kei's ankle as well. He looked pretty tired as well yesterday... Hope no one will get injured at the end of the season!

Yeah Kei says in his blog that he's fit, but he must definitely be tired. Hope he'll avoid another three setter, win or lose! (Hopefully he'll win!)
