Ironic that Nieminen was the one who ended up hobbling the way Gael has hurled himself around the court this week as per usual. Hope that thigh/groin or w/e isn't too bad.

Congrats to Monfils. It would be awesome to see Jarkko win this title once in his career.

Very very good match, usually its just boring serving fests, this was really good baseline battle.

Awful result. Nemo had 2 BPs in the first game of the third but couldn't convert. After that he just faded away.

The stats have been up the wazoo this week. Another match where they can't even list the right amount of breakpoints.

Nieminen most of the finals he has played, he has been the clear underdog. Had a few chances here, couldn't take them. Would be good if he could win Stockholm at least once before he retires.

I really feel sad for Jarkko, he deserved this more then Gael. But Gael is a better player with better serve and maybe is just a tad bit more mental strong though he has a bad record aswell so that was it.

First french winner since 1982! Monfils was very entertaining all week and really spiced up the tournament. Shame with Nieminen as he deserves a title. His 3rd Stockholm final loss. He put in a lot of effort to turn the match in the 2nd and paid for it in the deciding set.

It's breakpoints won not BPs. But yeah mostly the winners/UEs I think they have been a bit generous this week

i dont understand why they dont show how many break chances and break conversions instead of jus how many break conversion:rolleyes:

I know. I messed it up anyway. Seems indeed like it is correct for this match, but they have got it wrong earlier during the week.

yeah some tournaments don't even get something as simple as stats quite right. I think the shangai master 1000 doesn't even show winners and unforced errors:eek::eek:

Jarkko
He looked great in the second set, crisply controlling the rallies. Shame about the third. The more clownish player won, but he was unquestionably the favorite.

The big story continues to be Del Po- after the exiting to Blake  can he turn it around next tournament?

Monfils came from 2-4 to 6-4 in the semi but was credited only one bp won in the second set, I'm sure they mader other mistakes too.

Was the clear underdog but had his chances. Seemed to run out of gas in the third, no wonder after playing tough matches through the week.

How many players in the history of the ATP have made 11 finals? I'm betting that list isn't too long, probably only a couple hundred at most.

Good effort Nemo. He was stronger in the rally for a lot of this, but made an arse of things at the end of the opening set. Also Monf's serve was a major difference, Nemo got nothing off his first ball.

Brutal finals record, but at least he's won one. Imagine if he was 0/11, that would hurt.

Gaël played a good tennis all the week, not his best, and deserved the victory. He was the best player and did what he had to do to win against his opponents, not more. Bravo !

Nieminen has pretty terrible luck with finals, he always gets to be a job guy for some top tenner, or some other guy on a hot streak (GGL last year).

Nieminen's win loss title record has got to be one of the worst of all time. i love him and his game but his mentality is one of the worst a player has ever had

Mugfils peaking again when no one else cares so that he remains in the top 10 for another year to continue the travesty that is the 6-10 rankings :o

Gael is going to win Paris :). Book it.

10-24-2011, 09:50 AM
^ It's about time he does that (wins finals again).

Monfils needed this Stockholm win as much as Niemen cuz Monf had lost two finals (Paris & DC) since his last tournament win (Montpelier).

So the goal for Gael is not only racking up points to qualify for WTF.

Somebody called a Monfils Finals victory a disgusting result. Not cool at all. If he can do well enough in Paris to stay in the Top 10, then Donald will keep his victory over a Top 10 player.

I also think Monfils can finally break through in Australia with a QF or SF against one of the big 4

Jarkko's finals record isn't quite as bad as it looks.

Of his 11 finals, he was the higher ranked player in only one (lost to Llodra in Adelaide 2008).

Lots of defeats to quality players. Federer twice, Nalbandian twice, Gaudio, Blake (when he was top 10), Top 10 Monfils...

Obviously 1-10 doesn't lie, but it's not like he choked a lot of finals as a favourite against shit players.
