Pity. Tomic had 4:2 and break point in the decider. What was that about overrule?

Fucking legend! :haha: What a comeback! :worship:

Even at *2-4 30-40 in the 3rd I just knew Monfils wouldn't lose. Really stepped it up from there onwards and Tomic had no chance.

Watched the last few games and Tomic seemed like he had nothing left in the tank.

His forehand is very awkward-looking especially when his footwork gets lazy. Like Cilic's slappy forehand on steroids.

Tomic had break point for a 5-2 lead in the 3rd.

Can you explain me what was that in 9th game of the 3rd set? Did Tomic had a BP or good ball for the deuce/BP?

Say what you want about Monfils but he is about 5 times more entertaining. Great for the tournament. Sad 19th birthday for Tomic but his time will come

Clownfils should have won in straight sets but totally clowned during some points. Decided to practice serve&volley it seems.

What joke match. Tomic has the movement of Del Potro and the energy of Safin playing Santoro, and Monfils is Monfils. Monfils did his best for a set and a half to throw away the match, but Tomic let him escape in his clown car.

I actually have more respect for Donald Young right now.

Not a good match although towards the end Monfils finally woke up and used the right tactics against Tomic.

I think Monfils held pretty easily for a 5-4 lead, then broke Tomic to 30 (after having 0-40).

Monfils trying unnecessary between the legs volleys down BP, sounds like a great match to me...

Tomic was the better player through most of it. Better tactics, better sense of attack vs defence. Couldn't finish it off, but it's a great indication of where he is at and where he'll be soon. This time next year he'll be straight setting guys like Monfils.

Mongoose

Monfils stopped trying after losing the second set. He got broken at love to begin the third while attempting shots that included a between the legs volley for no real reason. Then out of nowhere he started trying again for some reason. Had break points all over the place and finally converted one at 4-3.

His service game at 4-4 lasted about 25 seconds, definitely faster than the average time it takes Nadal and Djokovic between points. Tomic promptly stopped trying at 4-5 and tried to lose as fast as possible. He achieved 0-40 but Monfils refused to take the first two points even though Tomic wasn't even moving. Ended on a Tomic forehand dumped into the middle of the net.

Good handshake between the 2. Not so much between Tomic and umpire.

We have a very hollow "victory" here.

Ah, Tomic. Brilliant stuff. Very clever, indeed. He was able to demonstrate his dominance without having to continue in this petty tournament. The third set was breathtaking; it was awe-inspiring. The boy's tennis IQ is the most advanced I have ever seen. There were unshed tears in my eyes as he put on that final set masterclass.

Celebrate your nineteenth in style, young man. You deserve it. Ladies and Gentlemen, we are about to see something very special unfold.

As for Monfils, what a terrible tennis player. That was just embarrassing. It would be a shameful feeling, knowing that you have only advanced in a shitty tournament because a teenager would rather celebrate his birthday. Ouch. I'm not sure where this man's career is going.

Expected

More talented player won. Tomug's movement is mediocre and his fitness is on par with some of the fat WTA players. Unless he stops being a brat and starts working on his tennis, he'll always bask in mediocrity and never make top 10.

Mixed game from Tomic. Flashes of briliance mixed with .. You know... Unforced errors :o and wasted BP chances (although he was unlucky on most important one). Only watched the 1st set, where he was outplaying Monfils at the start, but then 1 lazy game was enough for him to lose it. I read he played a brilliant point just before he was broken in the 3rd, really want to see the highlights.

ogre
10-21-2011, 06:28 AM
I think more mental - energy went after the overrule that 'cost him' 5-2. Maybe it was an error, maybe not. Either way he has to learn it is all part of the game and not derail when a problem occurs.

great video... enjoyed that...

and yes, NardDog is a new poster... he is the chosen one that they had prophesised about since Tomic won 5 straight U18 ITF's at 13 years of age... they said NardDog would come one day... and NardDog has arrived...

btw, asked of his feat immediately after his run at 13 yrs tomic remarked: 'well, after the first two tournaments it was easy because everyone was scared of me...' amazing self awareness for a child...

I'm totally lost but it's cool, because I *SUPPORT* the NardDog.

Even in defeat Tomic wins at life. If he was saying that at 13, imagine the sort of things he'll discover about the universe and its inner workings by the age of 21.

I was disappointed in Tomic that day. The German-Croation-Australian-Monte Carloan is the better grass court player and should not have let Djokovic of the hook. It was almost as if he did not want to win.

That faulty overrule was tough for Bernie, but shit happens. He needs to roll with such blunders in the future rather than let them get to him.

I quite liked seeing Tomic play in person this week. He has a special kind of court savvy. Very deceptive.

Tomic is better on grass than Djokovic. At least he's more natural on it. Djokovic is not a grass courter. Wimbledon 2011 is not grass. Rather green clay.
