Very entertaining match between two contrasting styles. Dog of a game LaLo played to get broken.

Ferrer what a warrior.

Feli's last game made me wonder if I was watching Nando .

Oh well, good tourney.

11 aces by Ferrer... Deliciano should be among the top 3 of best returners.

Better player won. Nice game to get broken, Lalo: 3 doubles and 1 UE.

Bad match up on the surface for Ferrer, but he is just too ballsy and strong minded, compared to Lopez.

Contrast... that's the word —damn, how I miss those days... :(

An excellent match, ruined by a very poor service game late in the third.

David – best of luck in the final. :yeah:

Lopez 7-1 H2H against Ferrer on hardcourts. But Ferrer is a much more clutch player in tense situations, and has good memories of that court, reaching the TMC final in Shanghai a few years back.

In the end, the reality of being close to a Masters 1000 final got too much for Lopez, I think, with that horror game with 3DFs to hand the decisive third set break over. Ferru served it out comfortably.

Until that point it was a very nice, entertaining match with some good points and as much of a clash of styles as you're ever likely to see these days. The lighter ball meant Lopez was able to attack the net with great success as long as he hit good approaches and volleys, while Ferrer was able to dominate the baseline and do his best to pin Lopez back.

Very good fun, just a shame Lopez threw in that mental meltdown at the end.

Calleri served 4 in a row, hence in our league when you serve 4 in a row it's called a "calleri",

LaLo is fodder for Murray, whereas Ferrer will give him more of a battle.

LaLo choked it badly in that 3rd set.

There's something about Ferrer that is utterly annoying. Lopsided affairs are killing these Masters in the last years for me, even with the big 4 and all.

tennis is all about match ups......sorry, tennis is all about bad match ups only when it comes to nadal winning something......

mtf and action jackson don't talk about feli's single handed "match up disadvantage" against double handers because feli still is leading their head to head which is hilarious if we buy their explanation about match ups disadvantages......ferrer pounded that weakshit backhand of lopez all day, something what nadal does to every single hander on the planet......

stop it already......you proved once again that you are biased and nothing else.....if you were not, you would definitely have attributed lopez's defeat to his weakshit backhand......just because lopez leads ferrer by 6-5, ferrer is not a "bad match up" to lopez? too funny......and just goes to show why bad match ups don't exist and it's all about adaptability at the end of the day......

lopez covers up his dreadful weakness with his brilliant serving and forecourt skills......fedclown the so called all court most complete player freezes like a clown and can't do shit because he's given up mentally......you just have to get it that no player is devoid of weaknesses and it's all about how you adapt to oppositions and stay mentally strong......

the main reason why nadal owns fed is because of his never say die attitude......fed knows nadal will never give up and that is the type of opposition he hates the most, while he can easily handle anybody and any talent who can fight only to a certain extent and bend over after that......

and for your "lesser players don't win against better players unless there exists a match up issue", did it ever occur to you that circumstances may have been different? davydenko found nadal too many times when he was down......and what if a lesser player summons up the courage and has a couple of good days?

That's it, but match ups don't exist. How do we explain the paranormal where a consistently lower ranked player has a positive record over someone higher.

happy for Ferru but sad for the way it ended, the first set was such a beautiful set to watch with a climactic TB edged by Feli's beautiful play, including a spectacular backhand pass barely kissing the baseline, better luck next time

and those who fail to understand the concept of matchups would never see why Federer has given Djokovic more trouble and has had more success than Nadal did this year, simply because it exposes their idol's limitations and one-dimensional game plan, which happens to work against one player and miserably fail against the other

Federer doesn't have a poor record against other lefties does he?

One of the main things is that Ferrer has less topspin and doesn't handle slice as well as Nadal.

Ferrer vs LaLo matchup is very different from the Federer vs Nadal one, which is what everyone else on this board except you understands.

On the match, great that Ferrer won :yeah:. Hope he wins the title, his career deserves an AMS title.

Unfortunate then, for Ferrer, Nishikori gave Andy a refreshing massage and a kiss on the cheek and sent him to the final more rested than he's been the last three weeks.;)

Federer doesn't have a poor record against other lefties does he?

that's what exactly......other lefties don't have the game to crack fed......that does not mean they are good matchups......where did you learn to distinguish "less" from "more"? haha......it is entirely fedclown's problem that he can't handle nadal and it is entirely to nadal's credit that he possesses a game which breaks down fed's game and really any game on the tour......

you see what you also said about ferrer? what he can do and what he can't do......what do you understand from that? it is his own fault that he can't handle slices and can't generate more spin......that's why you can't brand anybody a bad match up because they all have strengths and they all have weaknesses.......it's how you maximize your talent......bad match up is a concept for kids who find it all hard to understand.....

learn to credit players for how they pick on your weaknesses and punish you day in day out, learn to read the intricacies of the game instead of blindly declaring X as Y's bad match up or Y as Z's favourite bitch......

How sure are you though?

Looks like people aren't giving Ferru enough credit here and expect a romping. It very well could happen but never ever count Ferrer out. He's a fighter, although if Andy of last week in the final comes along and Ferrer is nowhere near his best then..........

And kudos to Lopez for playing a great tournament.

Hopefully Ferrer will be able to give Murray a bit of work to do tomorrow, and even more hopefully - even more. Sorry, Dani, Scoobs and other Muzza fans, but I hope for Ferrer to finally, for once and for all time, grab that elusive masters title which I think he's so much earned by now.
