Who would you like to see win Shanghai?

We now know 3 of the 4 semi finalists:

Kei Nishikori
David Ferrer
Feliciano Lopez

Andy murray is more than likely joining them

This will either be a cakewalk for murray to get his 3rd straight title or a big moment for one of the other 3 as none of them has won a masters before.

Personally i expect murray to walk to the title however i would like it if one of the other 3 took the title, in particular kei.

Answer who you want to win this title not who you think will.

Kei would be nice because it would reverse the trend of players in their 30s peaking while the young guys disappoint, and while Lopez has a nice game it hasn't really changed much for him to win a MS now reflects badly on the current era. Also Kei has a lot of talent and maybe if an asian won the tournament fans would actually show up :o It's obvious Murray or Ferrer are going to win though, Ferrer especially is disappointing because he hasn't reached his level from 2007 and yet is getting much better results in this old man era.

Ferru hopefully. He deserves to win a MS at least. Vamos Ferru

My first choice is for Kei to win, 2nd is Ferrer, then Murray/Eden (who's still playing now)

Ferrer, or Nishi

I wouldn't mind seeing Lopez win it either.

Out of the final four, Murray is the one who needs it the least imo.

Kei, remember from 0-6, 1-4* down in the first round against Haase, to possibly go on to clinch his first MS1000 in Shanghai? Words would not describe that feat.

But personally, I would love to see Lalo win -- because I think he should have won in 2009. Here is his chance here :rocker2:

Nishi or Lopez please, hopefully these two both win their semis although that looks very unlikely of course. My list is:
1. Lopez
2. Nishikori
3. Murray
4. Ferrer

Why do people rate this Nishikori kid?

And, why do they even like him? Seems a bit random.

Stop trying to be different and root for one of the big 3 (dunno if Murray is world no. 3 in ranking by now, but obviously 'big 3' does not include Murray).

Why are you even viewing this thread, let alone posting in it? According to your infinite wisdom, non slam tennis "literally means nothing".

Wow, Rodre Fegassi really is a pathetic little gloryhunter. Might as well just stop all other forms of tennis and let the big 3 play each other for eternity.

You'd like that, wouldn't you?

Matter of viewpoint. :p I would be glad for the little Japanese anyway. He is a likeable guy and he has nice game with lot of talent. He is only 21 but had so lot of problem with injuries, unlucky guy. Finally something very good happens with him.

yeh, because not only does non-slam tennis mean literally nothing, but all other tennis players apart from the big 3 are literally meaningless as well.

There is no chance any of them will even come close to building a legacy as strong as Fed/Nad/Nole have a chance of building, so I can't see why they go on, obviously, apart from the money.

In fact even Nole doesn't have a legit shot at toppling over the 17 GS mark. Tennis is a sport for the record books, nothing more.

Honestly, if Murray didn't need this to over take Federer in the rankings, I'd be rooting for Kei to beat him tomorrow. Kei the lionhearted has impressed me at every turn, and it would be hilarious for a Japanese player to win the shitty Chinese Masters, reinforcing how Japan should have the Asian Masters.

 Thanks, Diana. I was thinking this by Sunday afternoon. I was like, yeah, just more boring and awful tennis, what else is new. And the tournament sure hasn't disappointed in that regard :o:p

Murray. It is the duty of the higher-ranked players to keep cheap ranking points, and titles, out of the hands of weak players. This applies especially in fringe Masters Series events not blessed with a strong field. This type of tournament can badly distort the rankings. Not sure I trust Andy to do the right thing here, although on paper he should succeed fairly easily.

I want Andy to win (he will anyway) so he can have 4/5 tournaments won, 3 tournament win streak and the #3 ranking, not to mention not being too far behind Nadal in the race.

The challenger players aren't here. Unfortunately most of my faves were out early. But this tournament had suck written all over it from the beginning, like most ATP events. Honesty isn't whining. That's why I love the challengers, it's where the real tennis is at.

I'm still very happy none of those top players showed up, but the event still sucks. But that's how things go sometimes.

misty1
10-14-2011, 05:49 PM
i dont think the event sucks. We had dolgo and kei have break throughs at a master event, kei finally got the project 45 monkey off his back and andy kept on his roll. We also saw a major break through for ebden and juan carlos went on a bit of a run

plenty of good things to take from the event

the problem i had was a lack of interest, it seems from the local crowd.

Ferrer for sure...I think he deserves a Masters title in his career. He's had some unfortunate draws, aka Nadal in 2 clay finals and Federer at the TMC a few years ago. I don't think he's playing quite well enough to do it though

Incredibly, if Federer withdraws from Basel (Not all that unlikely IMO) and Ferrer wins here then defends Valencia, I do believe Ferrer is #4 in Race

Ferrer>Lopez>ehh, I want to like Nishikori but I just can't seem to. I'm neutral towards Murray
