Very hard fought match. Ferrer just too solid in the final set tiebreaker. These two play some long matches and Ferrer's return of serve keeps is the key in these match up.

Yay Ferru. Outplaying Roddick in the stats (out ace-ing ) but good effort from Roddick, he looked happy to be out there playing.

Very entertaing match. I'm really impressed with Ferrer. I'm not sure if his ROS today was so good or if Roddick was serving so bad. I couldn't sleep, but I'm so glad I saw this match. It was great. Congrats to Ferrer. I love him.

Sidenote here is that roddick seemed to have injured his groin at the end of that 6-5 game. It will be interesting to see if it will be serious or not. Pics played a great tiebreak serving wise and Roddick looked hampered and a step slow.

Entertaining match and I wish Andy behaved like this more often. The respect between the two was great and it really felt like a gentlemen's battle.

boohoo mental midget roddick ate too much junk and stiffened up like a cow udder. it double faulted, injured its leg and WAS trying to act talented and unafraid....as usual. too bad it won't manipulate djoker to cancel tournaments too.

Roddick is one of the worst match-ups for Murray actually, while Ferrer will become Andy's pigeon on hard in few days.

Can anyone string together a reasonably constructive sentence on how Andy played for me? I know it's hard for the mtf lot, but I couldn't watch and want to know how he played..

1st Set. His serve was sharp and ferrer had a very difficult time returning the serve. Andy returned pretty well and could've won the set 6-4 but Ferrer fought off some set points with well placed shots.

2nd Set. Andy hit a wall around 2-2 when he couldn't break Ferrer. David caught fire and didn't miss anything and just out-rallied Roddick really badly.

3rd Set. Both guys had chances to break mixed in with easy service holds, but Andy looked less fresh going into the tiebreaker.

Around 7-6, 2-2, it looked like Ferrer was going to fade away but he just went on that amazing run of forehands. Roddick played all right, but he just couldn't rally with Ferrer today.

Nah sorry, I would if I'd have watched the match but I couldn't, so hopefully someone else will help you out. My guess is that Roddick got outpushed by Ferrer but hopefully someone else can give a better assessment.

the TEXAN gimp faked a bigger injury to hide its old age and lack of effort. don't be fooled by the score. it yelled foul words and melted down from 8 feet behind the baseline. anyone who's top 300 talent could play from the net and baseline, this momma's boy spent years eating like a pig; IT never watched matches to learn.

I like Ferrer more but was going for Roddick.

I'm a stats-tard and want to see his WTF qualification streak continue. Looking very unlikely now, but I hope he can at least finish top 15 to keep that streak alive (year-end top 15 every year since and including 2001).

I'm also annoyed that this match going so long means that it will probably be too late for me to watch the Ebden match. :(

So, I guess good fight back from David, but he shouldn't have lost the first set in the first place. Being jittery and hitting balls out for the first set may not stop him from beating 30 year olds, but he'll be tough for him moving forward.

I actually like Ferrer, but seeing as he stole his win over the one true Jesus Christ Ferrero, I can't be happy for him. Juanqui should have got another chance to avenge his 2003 USOpen.

Ferrer choked in the tibreak should have put it away in 2, nevertheless he should make the final.

Cakewalk for Murray now.

wtf? Yeah b/c Murray would really struggle with Roddick.

Decided to stay up and watch this one, but got really frustrated (and tired) after the first set. Roddick was just not giving Ferrer any free points of the ground, but only hit like 2 winners going into that tiebreak, one of which was a bh slice passing shot. Other than the serve, Ferrer had to do all the heavy hitting, but still managed to blow the tiebreak.

I'm just glad Ferrer got through this match. Roddick really has zero game now and he probably knows it, but the fact that he's in good physical shape and stronger mentally than the majority of the tour, means he can keep winning against less consistent players. He'll probably stick around as a 20-30 ranked player for a few more years, if not better.

who are these fans holding up "come on andy" and "kiss me andy" signs ?? Do they even WATCH his matches and his behaviour ?? It amazes me that he has one fan left after his childish embarrasing displays recently.

Great match to watch, very tense and aggressive from both players. Ferrer as usual had me sitting on the edge of my seat, thank god he won in the end. Ferrer is very difficult to predict, but great to cheer for. Roddick I thought played extremely well, he just was not hitting the winners. Roddick deserves praise for the way he played, however the best man won.

Ferrer's game against Ferrero had more nervous tension relating to their close off court friendship. I thought ferrer wanted to win too badly at the start and lost his cool composure, however he regained his winning form and took the game. wonder if they are talking to each other again yet!!

A good, hard fought match between 2 guys that respect each other. A real gentleman's contest. Andy played about to the best of his current abilities, but Ferrer is just the better player right now.

I'm afraid that Andy has regressed too far into his pusher game to really challenge good players consistently anymore. Maybe he will be satisfied hovering around the Top 15-30 range and making the QF of a Slam on a good week. I, like most everyone else, would like to see him up his aggressiveness with his groundstrokes(not with rushing the net) and get back to blasting the serve and forehand and dictating play...but honestly he probably just can't do it anymore. He would need to start taking "vitamins" and sleeping in eggs like the other top players.

A solid match...Roddick was steady and actually did have his moments where he tried to be aggressive. Ferrer was too good in the end, while Andy is playing way more for consistency nowadays, that gave Ferrer a lot of rhythm (something Ferrero did a good job of keeping David out of). This was much more of the match I was expecting at the US Open

He can barely defeat Roddick, for this reason he won't be a good fit for WTF. He'll probably get KO'd by the 3 opponents in the group stage.
