Welcome to Fill-In-The-Draw 2011
Eurasian Autumn Circuit
Tournament (4/7) - Moscow

http://www.concept90.hr/Portals/0/LiveContent/689/Images/ATP,-WTA-KREMLIN-CUP-2007.jpg

Here's what you need to know:

1) No commitments are necessary for the tournaments. Simply post your picks in the thread. You may play more than one event per week.

2) To play this game, you will post a full predicted draw for the tournament, including all winners in all matches of all rounds.

3) You must post your full prediction before the first ball of the first main draw match is struck.

4) Every player can replace his/her draw only once per tournament whatever the reason of replacement.
If you are changing picks, you must post your picks in a new post. No editing posts under any circumstances.

5) As far as qualifiers are concerned, you may post just "Q" in you predictions if you wish to make them before the qualifiers are placed, or you may wait until they are placed to predict, but remember that you must post before the first match begins. If two qualifiers play each other, and you are predicting before they are placed, you must predict based on their placement in the draw. For instance, you may say "Qualifier 1" which would indicate a prediction that the qualifier who is listed first in the draw would win, or you may say "Qualifier 2" which means that you predict the other qualifier to win.
If you didn't determine Qualifier 1 or 2, your pick will not be counted.

6) If a player receives a bye, you do not get points for predicting them into the second round.

7) Scoring goes as follows:
The points you receive will be based on the round points for the tournament. For each player you predict correctly into the second round, you receive the round points for a first round victory, and so on.

8) The tiebreak rule is to go by how many correct picks the players had in each round, (for example)
1. # of correct Final picks
2. # of correct SF picks
3. # of correct QF picks
4. # of correct R16 picks, etc.
and if the players are still tied after counting each round, they will remain tied.

9) PLEASE REMEMBER:
-When you post your picks, please list ONLY the winners of each round. DO NOT have 'Player A d. Player B' as it will make the manager's job much easier
-Also, please do not use smilies in your picks, there is really no need for it.

For more info, please feel free to visit the FITD forum in the games section

The FITD Board and Thunderfish
Welcome You to the
EURASIAN AUTUMN CIRCUIT

What Is It???

This is a series that will work similarly to the U.S. Open Olympus Bonus Series. The only difference is that it is at the end of the season. I am running one tournament every week from now until the World Tour Finals and each of those tournaments will be part of the series. Your scores for each of the seven tournaments will be added up for your final series score. There are seven tournaments so the top 7 players will get bonus ranking points at the end of the series.

What Tournaments are Included In the Series???

There are seven tournaments, one every week starting with Bangkok and ending with Paris. The Tournaments Are:
Bangkok
Tokyo
Shanghai
Moscow
Vienna
Valencia
and Paris

What are the rules???

This is a fairly simples plan. I (Thunderfish) will be the manager of all seven tournaments. If you ever forget which tournament of the week is part of the series, just look for the one that I am managing. There are only a couple of rules:
1. You all have busy lives. I get it. You will not be eliminated from the series if you miss one tournament. You will simply receive no points for that tournament.
2. I will release a series leaderboard update at the end of every tournament. Please do not constantly ask about the total standings. There is no spreadsheet for this kind of leaderboard so I will have to format it myself to work. Do not worry. I am not a lazy leader, but when you put pressure on me, I am more likely to make small mistakes.
3. Please for the love of god, read the post on how to make your picks.
4. The FITD board has approved these rules and the series as a whole, so no skepticism please. I have gotten permission to do this.

Prizes (Obviously the most important part)...

All prizes are in the form of ranking points. Prizes are as follows:
1st - 500 points
2nd - 300 points
3rd - 250 points
4th - 200 points
5th - 150 points
6th - 100 points
7th - 50 points

What is each tournament worth for the series??

Bangkok - 840
Tokyo - 1880
Shanghai - 4120
Moscow - 840
Vienna - 840
Valencia - 1880
Paris - 3760

Thanks d_s for helping make this happen! :wavey:

If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Enjoy the series. Hopefully, if all goes well, we can do something like this again in the future.

How to Send Picks

I only have a couple of requests. It's not the end of the world if you don't follow them, but my life will be made a whole lot easier especially because I have to deal with the "surprise" as well. Updates will be quicker (especially the first few) if you follow these requests.

1. THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please make sure before submitting your picks that there are no spaces after each name.
Nadal
Federer
Djokovic
Tsonga
Looks the same as:
Nadal
Federer
Djokovic
Tsonga
except the second entry has spaces after every name. If you are careless and leave these spaces, I will have to manually delete them.

2. Other managers make a bigger deal over this than I will but please do not put spaces between rounds. I honestly don't give a crap if I have to cut and paste separately but, again, easier formatting means quicker updates. Your choice.

3. The one thing that I cannot stand is misspelling. Just refer to the posted draw in order to get correct spellings. These are the hardest mistakes for me to root out and if you do not recieve points because of misspelling, it is your job to notify me because this mistake is on you, not me.

Just to add on to the misspelling stuff, in the Bangkok thread, three picks mysteriously disappeared because of the most subtle misspellings. Basically, excel was being a little prick.
My point is that Haase looks almost identical to Hasse, Monfils looks the same as Momfils or Monfls. When I look at the statistics screen and see missing picks in three different rounds, I go and waste about 2 hours searching through your picks for the freakin error, and I just cannot find the really subtle ones. So please, just proofread your picks before submitting them.

Hey Thunderfish,
Last I checked we could play both FITDs in a given week and the higher score was counted for the rankings. Are we still playing like that? If we are, would I not get any points this week in the event that my Stockholm score ends up being higher than that of Moscow?
Sorry if you already answered this question before.

Monday LeaderBoard

Hey Everyone! I just wanted to say a couple things:
1. These tournaments are finally free of top 5 players (for now at least) so there is actually a wide variety of final match ups that have been picked which makes me happy because I get to color-code them all :p
2. I think using the full color spectrum in the past three tournaments was a bit overboard and became almost too complex to find anything. So I've decided to try out this new idea of using shades of the color theme (green for Moscow), instead of every color of the rainbow. Please give me feedback on this and tell me whether or not you like this better or the old system better.
3. Eurasian Autumn Circuit is almost half over
4. Good luck in Moscow everybody :wavey::wavey::wavey:

In my opinion, shades of one color is perfectly OK, but it'd be better not to do the background in a shade of the same color, but leave it white (or at least non-green) :)

Tuesday LeaderBoard

Congrats to andrijagajic for being the player with the most correct picks so far with 10 out of 11 picks (91%). This is the highest percentage of correct picks I've seen in the first round of any of the circuit's tournaments so far so keep it up andrijagajic! :wavy:... On another note, I've decided to stick with the color shades for now because I want to see if it will look awkward having the shades in a more unorganized order (tomorrow, once round 2 points start getting inputted, the shades won't align in perfect order like right now)
I will make the final decision then.

Although I'm sticking with the green shades, I am not abandoning the rewarding sky blue tone that players get for extraordinary scores in a round, such as andrijagajic right now.

Can we actually have a circuit like that again - for example a clay-court season circuit right before Roland Garros??
I think most players like this way of competition :wavey:

I have actually been waiting for someone else to bring up this possibility. I had a complaint in the first tournament (Bangkok) that this circuit was unfair and improper. I forgot who posted it, but the whole point was that, if we could get four or five FITD circuits annually at the same times of the year, then it is not unfair because the extra bonus ranking points would expire on a 52 week basis like all other points.

I was considering signing up to manage 5 tournaments in a row in February and March, to have another one of these circuits. If anything, I'd probably do a U.S. series (San Jose, Memphis, Delray Beach, Indian Wells, Miami, and possibly Houston although it would be very anticlimactic compared to ending with Miami). I feel like every series needs to have a theme. For example, U.S. spring hard courts, clay court season, summer clay court tournaments (that would be interesting).
This one would be very unlikely but it would be cool to have a Grand Slam + Olympics series. Five biggest tournaments of the year.

Anyway, I'm rambling now. The whole point of this idea was to boost participation in FITD and increase enthusiasm in the game. I don't expect this to end up getting the same reception as Tennis Tipping, but it would be cool if we sparked interest in the game and had close to 100 participants for even the small 250 tournaments. It's definitely had a small but subtle effect. I remember the first tournament I managed in Munich earlier this year did not have nearly as many participants as this one and they are equally popular or unpopular.

And...I'm rambling again. I'm going to discuss this idea with the FITD board after this series and we'll take it from there. However, I wouldn't expect another series like this until after the Aussie Open next year.

Thanks for the support :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

You don't have to manage every single tournament to manage the series, do you? Managers can just send you the scoring table at the end... I guess it might make it easier for you.

Of course not, that would be nearly impossible to organize every year. In fact the idea of the series sparked because I volunteered to manage these seven tournaments and I thought it would be a cool idea.
I guess I could always deal with the series leader boards and managers would send me tournament leader boards, but I don't think I have that authority yet. I am actually not in charge of FITD. I am not even on the board although I hope to be next year. If I am then I could help with any type of series that gets run and I could help organize certain circuits.

In terms of the circuit spreadsheets, I actually don't have a spreadsheet that automatically updates the leader board. I input everybody's score manually and then sort the leaderboard. i would actually be so extremely grateful if somebody could help me design a better spreadsheet. The only thing it does automatically is add up total scores which means I still have to search for everyone, input everyone's score, and figure out which players are absent from a certain tournament

Anyway, this is a ton of work and it would be cool to work with somebody on the next series. It'll probably be a discussion in the FITD Management Thread for 2012 or at the end of the year in this year's management thread

Hope this answers your question :wavey::wavey::wavey::wavey::wavey:

I really appreciate all the work you're doing on this Thunderfish :worship: :worship: :worship: ..great job :bigclap: and so fun from this end :yeah:

one thing I would ask.. being at the bottom of the leaderboard at the moment :crying2:, I'm finding it difficult to see my score with the numbers in blue against the dark green ..the brick colour that you use in the Total column shows up well, but something bright is another possibility too maybe ..just a thought ..in general though, I like the use of different shades of one colour ..all really good

i actually noticed this myself yesterday, but was hesitant to change it until i saw a great spectrum of shades. I think while the shades of the squares get darker, I will make the shades of the font lighter, or i will just make the blue lighter for the two or three darkest shades of green.

I'm going to experiment with the whole color scheme idea. By the time Vienna comes, I will have a system that is set in stone that works for everyone. :wavey:

The spring hard court series would be nice...

I managed Montreal this year and I had enough from that one - I don't think I'll manage another one unless I have holidays :wavey:

Wednesday LeaderBoard

Congrats once again to andrilajagajic, who finished round 1 with 11 out of 12 correct picks (92% and i have no idea why the last first round match was schedule today) which is pretty incredible. I made the shades of green lighter so that it would be easier to read the font. Hope this helps keech. Just tell me if its still illegible and I'll find a completely different solution.

******EDIT - Please ignore the two black zeros, they are not aligned with the proper people. I will fix the problem tomorrow.

FITD is the easiest tournaments for managing in my opinion, my first attempt was not very good, I'm handicap about Excel and I didn't realise how spreadsheet works
If someone explain me on PM, I can try from next year :p

I wouldn't say that I don't have the experience to explain it to you, but I would visit the management thread in the FITD forum and ask d_s or another member of the current board for instructions on managing. I don't think I have the authority to show you one on one. However, if managing sparks your interest, you should download the spreadsheet in post #1 on the management thread for 2011 because the first page of the spreadsheet has extremely clear instructions.

If any part of it seems confusing you can always PM me and I could help troubleshoot. :wavey::wavey:

I am very good at using Excel Spreadsheets (though not as competent as -Evita- :worship: ).

So if anyone wants a lesson, feel free to send me a PM. I have tried explaining to a couple of people this year, and always happy to help. I don't know if my explanations were helpful, but there seemed to be not so many problems in the tournaments that were being managed. I also understand that the functions for the spreadsheets may be named differently in other languages, so if you do have problems working things out, I can try and assist to find a solution.

Thunderfish, if you would like help organising a circuit spreadsheet for your (or others) use, let me know by PM. I will need to know exactly what features you will need, so it might be a long PM :) I am also happy to write up an idiot-proof instruction guide to the current management spreadsheet, which would explain all the functions and how to sort, etc using Excel or OpenOffice Calc. If people think this would be of benefit. I was under the assumption that people would know how to use certain Excel commands, but forgot that I learnt quickly on a job where I had to use a lot of Excel Spreadsheets and most people don't actually use Excel in day-to-day life. (I use the freeware OpenOffice as it is compatible with Microsoft applications and spreadsheets or documents can be saved in Excel/Word format using OpenOffice. - Yeah, I'm cheap :p )

I just wanted to let you all know that the exhaust fan on my laptop has broken. It is heating up when I use it for extended periods of time and I will actually have to shut down for a while after this update.

The reason why I'm telling you all this is that updates will become slightly harder for me to make so early in the afternoon (at least where I am). Don't worry, I will always update daily and circuit leader boards will come twice a week like always, but I will also not be around as much to answer your questions because I will have to use my family's computer for updates.

I apologize in advance for this minor obstacle. Again, I will be updating just as frequently, but it will take a bit longer each day. :wavey::wavey:

So, I am sending in my laptop to apple tomorrow to get repaired. It will be gone for roughly three weeks, and they don't give me a donor to use during that time span. As a result, I have to use my dad's laptop which he uses a lot, so I will have limited access. Of course, as the manager, I will make sure that you guys get your daily updates tomorrow and sunday with wonderfully colorful leader boards. I just wanted to let you all know that the update might be very late in the day or even overnight for those of you across the pond (in Europe) because I am going to be trying to figure out the best way to deal with the situation. I guarantee that by the time Vienna comes, I will have a good system and will be able to update relatively early like today and update every day like usual.

Again, this is not certain, but it is likely. It is possible that tomorrow and sunday, I can update like 20 minutes after play ends, but I'm just giving you the worst case scenario.

Thanks again for your patience guys :wavey::wavey:

Allright, I am about to take my laptop in for repairs. This means that not only will I be gone for a few hours, it will take a couple hours for me to import all my spreadsheets and shit onto my dad's laptop.

Unfortunately, I don't see a way to update the leaderboards early today. I sincerely apologize in advanced, and hopefully this is the only time this will happen (im pretty sure i'll be good starting tomorrow).

Thank you all for your patience and for understanding that I really am trying my best to make this work :wavey::wavey::wavey:

Allright, I've finally figured out how to get excel on this macbook (use 30 day free trial, which i won't need after i get my macbook back in 21 days ;))

i am starting to update the spreadsheet and then I will only need to download the grab application so that i can post the leaderboard here

ETA - 30 minutes

andrijagajic hold onto the lead extending it to a 40 point gap. Only Boarder35m can overtake andrijagajic at this point as he is the only person within 100 points of the lead that picked Troicki to win.
I apologize again if the leaderboard colors are slightly off because my regular laptop uses microsoft excel 2008 while this one uses excel 2011. Vienna will all be done with 2011 so it will hopefully be uniform. Thank you all for your patience through this affair :worship:

CIRCUIT LEADERBOARD
After Moscow...

I just want to reiterate how close andrijagajic was to getting a perfect draw. He only missed out by 140 points, which I figured out was the sum of only 1 missed R32 pick, 3 missed R16 picks, and 1 missed QF pick. Way to go andrijagajic!!
In other news, appleGirl shakes up the top of the leaderboard, dethroning the reign of Kamui010 and ElizaY. They are comfortably in 2nd and 3rd.

Thanks for playing FITD Moscow!! In Vienna FITD, I will be giving a few explanations for why I do certain things in the leaderboards, such as coloring, blacking out zeros etc. Hope to see ya there! :wavey::wavey::wavey:
