Bad luck Juanqui.

After the first set who honestly saw this coming? Great fighting as always from Pics, especially considering how disinterested he looked early on.

What a great match! They played so well...and I thought it was awesome that David under so much pressure was able to save those MP's. But full props to JCF.

Congrats David! :)

no doubt, but Ferrer was really bad in the first set. he often needs a set to warm up, and that often costs him matches -- just as he finds his game, it's too late.

But yeah, even though I didn't think Ferrero was moving too badly after the injury, it surely was affecting him. I like both guys but I wish Ferrero could have won.

Ferru :yeah:
Juanqui

JCF is 32 and rolled his ankle in the second set, he never moved as well or had as much spring after that.

Pics has now officially qualified for the WTFs again! :worship:

JCF  Hopefully his form since his comeback means he won't retire at the end of the season. With nothing to defend, he could well get back into the top 20 next year.

Ferrer's 1st serve % was shocking through 1 and half sets. Big win

He won't be 32 until next February. ;)

Ferrer has been in very poor form. He's a good fighter but fortune was definitely on his side in this match. Hopefully the Ferrer who made the finals of WTF shows up and not the one who was a punching bag for the other guys, but it's not looking good

So Roddick gets a bye to the semis. Ferrer is playing utter shit since he has got injured in August.
Not really a Top 10 player atm.

JCF -- hopefully retirement isn't looming his mind again. Because it was originally the ankle that made him call it quits at the end of this year

It wasn't his ankle. He had wrist and knee surgery.

David is a real warrior, so humble he disparages himself even when he's doing well. Plus he's a nice guy, a hard worker, never in some tabloid scandal like his compatriots, devoted to Davis Cup. He is so underappreciated. Spanish DC team would likely be lost without him since Rafa is playing DC like Federer now.

Juan Carlos is a god.

Ferrer was absolutely horrid for the first set, and quite frankly the 2nd set too. His first serve was all over the place, he double faulted a couple times to give a break to JCF, and when he was trying to test JCF's movement near the end of the 2nd set, his consistency was still struggling at times. But that's why he's such a fighter...his level raised slightly from the first set, but it was the fight when he was just about to lose that kept him in it.

JCF was phenomenal, on the other hand, for the first set and a half...hardly any errors, was moving Ferrer around easy. The ankle-rolling looked fairly painful, but he didn't look in too bad of a condition as he kept playing in the 2nd set...but once he held the 3 MPs and didn't convert, it was practically over from there. Ferrer was much better in the third set, Ferrero was far worse and mentally gone.
