Absurd match... Tsonga saved first MP with an ace and the 2nd with a 2nd serve ace

Plenty of errors but also plenty of great rallies. Very up and down, but dramatic.

Kei :hatoff:

43 UE's and multiple chokes from jo. nishikori didn't have to do much.

I was watching Raonic/Ferrer. Checked in on this match during the TB to see what Kei was doing so well to allow him to keep up with JWT. Well, Kei was crap in the TB, so I went back to the other match. Just came back to this one at the end. Seriously, what happened?

Sorry for stereotypes, but Kei pulled of some ninja returns and kamikaze net approaches towards the end. Wonderful stuff from Kei.

Attrocious performance by Tsonga. He was so slow out there. Whenever he tried to run aroung his BH he jammed himself because he couldn't move his feet fast enoguh. Running FHs were also a disaster especially at the end.

Omedeto!!! Kei!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

He was so effective at the net I loved it!
(Net points won: Kei 16/19, Jo 9/19)
And those massive FH and steady BH!
There were many UEs from both, but I'm so glad Kei pulled through!

Now Project 45 is finally completed. (He did it yesterday but before today's victory it still depended on other players' results). And of course he won't stop there!

Hope his back is OK, and good luck vs Giraldo!

Speechless. That's why I'm typing.

Overjoyed for Kei, though Tsonga was lethargic out there.. but this hurts his chances at WTF which is horrid. Ah well. One of Kei's biggest career wins, keep winning boi.

Hopefully, now that Project 45 is done and dusted, he can concentrate on playing for himself. And no more injuries please :o

This quarter of the draw has really opened up. Either Nishikori, Tomic, Dolgopolov or Giraldo is getting 360 points, at least, which will be huge. Huge chances for the Nishikori or Tomic to improve on their career high rankings, maybe even hope for a seed in AO. Dolgo could move very close to the top 10 by reaching SF. I really don't expect Girldo to get there but who knows, he's ranked between Nishikori and Tomic, currently so this is a great chance for him too.

Tsonga looks so lazy on court sometimes. I think he underrated his opponent mentally here when he was having these breaks, and further chances, and Kei was fighting for life. Another come back in a row, equally spectacular.

On the ATPtennis website, parts of Nishikori's interview is after the highlights. They say that he has finally become Japan's highest ranked male player ever (ranked 45 or higher), but he could easily slip back to 47 before the rankings are released if results go against him (Giraldo, Ferrero, Muller).

If this happens, then I'll be convinced that Project 45 is a curse. Nishikori has been pretty unlucky during his short career.

Kei has a massive chance for a bucket load of points this week. Giraldo next and then Tomic/Dolgo which is a great opportunity to make the semi's here and boost his ranking as well as his confidence. Could well be a career defining week for Kei, and well I certainly hope it will be.

Love this draw.. Just realised more than likely, either Tomic, Dolgo or Kei will be in the semi's.. that's friggin' orgasmic.

lets hope he gets past giraldo then to get that project 45 monkey off his back once and for all. Kei has had so much bad luck in his short career that he deserves this
