This result makes me happy. Stan was a set and a break down but he came back and took the 2nd set tiebreak shockingly easily. Im not sure if young played an awful tiebreak or stan played an incredible one but he got up 6-0 and young fought off 2 set points before stan closed it out. 3rd set..i guess young just ran out of gas

i got to say though..im not a fan of stans new "im only going to start playing tennis once im a set and a break down" method.

Regardless, Young is on the right track, Wawa is going the other way.

Wawa be a lucky man today really, but good on him for taking advantage of Youngs lapse after being a set and a break up.

Good effort from Donald, shows the U.S. Open match wasn't a fluke. Hopefully next time he can close it out when he gets the opportunity.

Young should have won. Not that big a deal since both are mugs, but I would like for Young to do well to piss off the USTA some more

The truth is i'm conflicted about Don's loss because Murray hasn't played yet.

what does murray playing have to do with anything exactly?

Still a decent week. I expect him to mop up some points the next few weeks at the 250 events in Europe.

Maybe he didn't want Young to get bageled by Murray again?

It says in the ST. Pete tournament thread that Donald is out despite being raqnked high enough for the MD. I wonder why that is and where the source came from if true

Young is still a choker  but he proved his USO was not a fluke  Haters can say what they want, but Young almost beat the lucky Wawrinka again.

Anyone on my St. Pete question?

Bottom line this is a result everyone can agree to. The DY haters for obvious reasons and the pro DY guys for proof that the Wawa win at the USO was no fluke by pushing Wawa to the brink again. Wawa needed this more than DY did and he'll get him again in Australia

I will not call this a missed opportunity unless Murray loses his first match.

i'm just waiting for a time when wawa plays well from the start again. I mean, i think we can all agree that stan has not played well for a majority of the year and nothing like what took him to the QF at the australian open this year and US open last year.

in both this match and his match against monaco it took until he was a set and a break down before he started playing well and it was that way in his first round at the US open too

And Murray didn't even have to play a match. A walkover means if Donald didn't get broken at *4-3, it would have been the 3rd straight tournament he's played where he runs into Murray. I wonder what's the record for most consecutive ATP tournaments where the same two players faced one another

So in the end, he would've won 45 more points and guaranteed himself to be ranked 40 or higher, but at risk for another beatdown by Murray who's in his want to be end the year number 3 form.

This loss won't affect him like it would've if he faced Murray and gave him another whipping. Remember he needed the 3 qualie matches to reagin some confidence after the bagel and faced trouble of not qualifying.

He's already beaten Wawa at a slam and he can use this loss for motivation the next time they meet whether a slam or at another event.
