Good list this season, and will be interesting to see who the WC's are. Florent has had good runs here and I hope he can muster up another, he's in desperation zone. GL to all my favorites, I hope one of my lower ranked faves like Bjorn or Florent take the title.

What? Okay, he needs to defend a LOT of points in this year though. I'm glad anyway. :D Good luck Marcel!!!

Hopefully no-one ranked in the top 100 wins the event. Virtually all of these really big challengers have been won by guys within the top 100 and it's pathetic. Totally defeats the purpose of the challenger series.

I'll be pissed if Granollers, Hanescu, Ramos or another high-ranked WC wins here. They all will hopefully be stopped QF and earlier.

Filo, they have place in the top 100 when they beat top 100 players.

Anyway I don't mind if Marcel won't win title here, Bucharest comes in following week. And he is always injured in these weeks, he doesn't need too lot of matches.

We totally don't want players like this, who come here for 12 years, can't say a word in English, and asked about memories from Szczecin (he came here like every year, for real) he says he doesn't know because he doesn't leave hotel room because he is busy with his Playstation. Never even been to a damn players party.

He was hurt for a little while earlier this year, and hasn't really found any form since then. He's played GS qualifying, a couple challengers, and a few futures, with little success.
And I agree, I always thought he underachieved a bit. Very good player when motivated and in good form.

Filo V.
09-10-2011, 05:36 PM
The MD sucks, Bjorn, Simon and Florent are all on the top half. Florent should beat Flock, but can he beat Montanes? It's not 2010 Montanes so maybe he'll have a shot.

Simon I'm guessing will lose to Rufin if the Frenchman is healthy. Can't see him making any sort of run here but maybe he can surprise me. Bjorn, if he can beat Zeba, can make the SF. Hopefully he does so.

Hopefully Schoorel makes the final from the bottom half, but Beck/Prodon in R2 will be very difficult. Hanescu should also make the SF.

I really want Florent to win the title here, it would be great if he could make it happen. As long as one of my faves win it's OK.

OK, thanks for the rundown. Injuries affecting his play again, he gets hurt often. Maybe he should remain in futures in France and work his way back that way. Struggling with someone like Bednarek clearly shows he isn't equipped to make deep runs right now in challengers. But I can understand if that's not where he wants to be at this stage in his career.

No, but you can see the court from the court 1 stream :p

I honestly wish Florent would simply retire since he says he's contemplating it. It's not working out for him. When you lose to guys like Dasnieres, Flock, Viola, Walter, and can't pass challenger R1's, it's time to hang it up. He looks injured, old, deflated and done.

pathetic tournament - bunch of high ranked moonballers, who doesn't give a shit and playing so uninspired, while local superstars make their annual appearance. Players like Gadomski or Kocyla are taking hours in centre court, while real title contenders are playing on outside courts. A lot drama, but quality wise... better woudn't ask Hanescu and Montanes

I don't see what is wrong putting guys like Kapas and Kocyla to the center court - they gave their best and deserved it here. Gadomski didn't take hours and Schoorel is a title contender. And I don't mind quality here so far, I watched matches that were interesting to me and enjoyed myself. If someone doesn't like claycourt tennis specifics should stick to watching tournaments on indoor carpet and not whine that a clay challenger is played on clay. And on the top of that, it comes from a person from the country of Gulbis who is known to play always very inspired.

Flock def. Serra 2-6 6-4 6-2

And to think I thought one of Greul, Serra or Phau could make the SF at least from the top half. Can't escape the fact they're total clowns, I guess.

I honestly wish Florent would simply retire since he says he's contemplating it. It's not working out for him. When you lose to guys like Dasnieres, Flock, Viola, Walter, and can't pass challenger R1's, it's time to hang it up. He looks injured, old, deflated and done.
yeah lol
Flock was also injured, he lives at the physio's

I want Radu Albot to win, can we have him back in the draw please? My personal photomodel.

Your Bjorn was dramatically bad. Soviets are usually doing well here, Machado looks the best so far I think.

Filo V.
09-14-2011, 11:32 AM
Florent just collasped and made an extreme amount of errors and served like shit, but Flock got more motivated and started playing better and making fewer errors, started dictating play more as the match went forward.

Filo V.
09-14-2011, 11:37 AM
Yes, Bjorn sucked, like he usually does, especially this awful season

Albot is a decent looking guy, I like his eyes. I'm happy for Gawron that he won since this his a local event for him. Albot is a pretty good player, but he should probably have played in Istabul, since he's got a HC mentality.

I think Rui has been the best based on the R1 winners but I think that the winner of Prodon-Schoorel or Montanes will win the event, and maybe Golubev if he wins today. I think they all are just better players.

Filo V.
09-14-2011, 03:30 PM
Delbonis def. Golubev 7-6(4) 6-4
Giannessi def. Donskoy 2-6 6-3 7-5
Munoz De La Nava def. Grozdanov 6-2 6-1

Golubev just makes too many errors.

Giannessi won on a mishit forehand, that hit the net, went over to Donskoy's baseline and landed basically where Donskoy was standing. Very lucky. I think the Russian was the better player but made too many loose mistakes.

Filo V.

Alessandro needs work on the backhand but his forehand is a heavy and hard shot and he moves very well. I like the skills he brings to the table.

Rufin, IMO, is at least as good if not better from the baseline than Machado but he needs to improve his serve.

Filo V.
09-15-2011, 01:00 PM
Rufin may hit a bigger ball when he goes for his shot but Rui has much more tactical knowledge and knows how to play the game. He hits a lot better ball than he used to, also. The biggest difference in this match is the movement and consistency differences.

I think Rui is EXTREMELY annoying, though, so I could never support him in a major way.

before the matchpoint from Zeballos against Marcin Gawron, with Pole on serve in the tie-break to save it, somebody screams, "Excuse me, Mr. Umpire, this match cannot continue. There was surely a chance he wouldn't have hit an easy ball out. Facepalm galore.

09-16-2011, 07:53 PM
Prodon for me is pretty hard to estimate - sure he is solid for challengers especially in defense and also playing tactically wise, stilly I think something is missing and not many victories over classy players proves it. However He should be too solid for Munoz and final is very realistic.

Filo V.
09-16-2011, 08:09 PM
Eric has the ability to be a back-end top 100 player for a few years. Injuries and mental issues have damaged his career prospects, but he's matured, he's healthy and he has a good game. Good serve, good forehand, decent variety, decent mover. Just doesn't have one huge weapon that separates the top class players from challenger guys.

Here's a little story about the portuguese press: 11 years ago, I worked in a big national newspaper. Unfortunately, I wasn't taking care of the tennis area. But in a good friendly way, I told my colleague who did take care of that area, of a couple of Portuguese players who were on their road to success (in Portuguese tennis context). Their names were Rui Machado and Frederico Gil. Rui was already going through qualifying draws in the most competitive country at that level: Spain. Gil was starting to make good results on the junior circuit. I was greeted by scorn and disbelief. According to her, they were nobodies and would never do anything worthy. Unfortunately, life sometimes takes a lot of turns, so I left my journalistic career and lost contact with those colleagues... But to see what she's been writing these last few years on how good Gil and Machado are for the Portuguese tennis and whatnot, and the way she writes makes it look like she predicted all this since the very start, makes me want to puke :P
