Thank you, Nathalia - what a wonderful translation.

Great interview, I am really loving this guy.

Can you feel increased expectations?

I think the number of my fans grew, but I'm sure some people hate me as well, just like it always happens in this country. You need to embrace it or not think about it. I have a tough character, I'll handle it, and thanks to my good game there should be more fans than haters.

AUSTRALIAN OPEN 2013

JANOWICZ BATTLES INTO FINAL 32

Polish 24th seed Jerzy Janowicz fought off frustration with line calls, recovering from a two-sets-to-love deficit to clinch a 6-7(10), 3-6, 6-1, 6-0, 7-5 victory over Somdev Devvarman on Wednesday in Melbourne.

"What did I learn today? [That the] most important thing is you have to fight for every single ball till the end. I was losing already two-sets-to-love and I kept on fighting," said Janowicz, who came from two sets down to win for the first time in his career.

"You can't control your emotions all the time. Actually, I went nuts. I calmed down a little bit later on. Sometimes I have a problem with controlling my emotions, but I'm trying to work on this."

The 22 year old, who is contesting his first Australian Open, served for the match at 5-3 in the fifth set, but couldn't close it out. After converting his second match point, the powerful right-hander sank to his knees and later bowed to the vocal crowd multiple times, thanking them for their support. Janowicz placed 91 winners but also made 88 unforced errors.

Janowicz’s Dramatic Change

Last year Jerzy Janowicz didn’t compete at the Australian Open, because he couldn’t afford the trip Down Under.

After he beat Somdev Devvarman in the second round, the Pole received flowers for the first time. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v694/mypixforum/cr/flower.gif

“Yes, some girls gave me flowers. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v694/mypixforum/cr/flowers3.gif This was first time. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v694/mypixforum/cr/flowers.gif

[It has] never, never happened to me before.”Now, he is guaranteed a minimum of $57,000 for making the third round.

“I played 2010 qualies, [but] last year I couldn't come here because of money,” said Janowicz, who instead decided to contest a $10,000 ITF Futures tournament in Sheffield, England, 12 months ago.

“Now I think I have a little bit better situation, because I have already a sponsor. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v694/mypixforum/cr/dollar.gif

So it is much, much easier for me mentally to play this Australian Open, because I don't have to worry about money anymore.” :)

Last year’s BNP Paribas Masters finalist added, “This changed my life, but this [did] not change me. I'm all the time, [the] same crazy person. In life you change a lot. Now I don't have to worry about my trips. I can easily buy business class [tickets] for trips, like to Australia. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v694/mypixforum/cr/plane.gif Now I don't have to worry about money for my coach. So it's much easier for me to play tennis now.”

Last night I had some bizarre dream where Janowicz was a former Shakespearean actor who'd had to give it up to play tennis and for some reason when I woke up I was really disappointed this wasn't true. :stupid: I was at his match vs Almagro, wish he'd managed to win but it was nice to see him play.

2013 Indian Wells Doubles lost to the Bryan brothers in the final

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v694/mypixforum/2013_tb/treat_huey_jerzy_janowicz_runnerup_doubles_IW_16ma rch2013.jpg

Huey and Janowicz, the duo from the Philippines and Poland respectively, came into the BNP Paribas Open unseeded, defeating the teams of Andy Murray and his brother Jamie, and Americans James Blake and Mardy Fish along the way.

Huey is a doubles specialist with one ATP doubles championship at Washington D.C. in 2012, and appearances in three finals, most recently in October in Basel.

This is the first time Huey has had this kind of success with Janowicz, however. The Pole is known primarily as a singles player, and at only 22, has been to just one singles final — at Paris in November, where he lost to David Ferrer. He has never been to a doubles final.

2013 Davis Cup

Great Britain have completed a memorable combeack from 2-0 down to Russia in Coventry to make the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas World Group play-offs.

The remaining three World Group play-off spots have been filled by Netherlands, Poland and Ukraine.

Poland will make their first appearance in the World Group play-offs in September after they overcame South Africa 3-1 in Zielona Gora.

World No. 24 Jerzy Janowicz, who has been suffering from flu for the last few days, scored his second point of the weekend with a 46 63 63 61 victory over Ruan Roelofse on Sunday. Roelofse was a last minute replacement for Rik de Voest, who was suffering from a lower back injury.

“I didn’t expect a change in the match line up,” explained Janowicz. “Ruan played an excellent first set. I was not feeling well - to be honest I felt horrible, even worse than on Friday. I finally regained my serve as the match went on and tried to dictate the rallies. The crowd helped me a lot, gave me some energy.”

5 April 2013 - Jerzy Janowicz, Poland, def. Jean Andersen, South Africa, 6-4, 6-3, 6-3.

Hi guys :wavey: Great to see other JJ fans here :)
After Jerzy's matches in Madrid it looks like his form is coming back after the illness, I'm keeping fingers crossed for some great results in Rome! I would love to see JJ vs Tsonga, today we should know whom he'll play against in R1 rght? I hope it's not Rosol ;)

The Boodles Challenge? I have not heard of it...Hope Jerzy is getting paid for this exhibition...I am surprised he didn't sign up for an actual ATP tourney the week of this event...He did well last year at Wimbledon and had match points to make the 4R, so he really needs match practice to be prepared to make a deep run there...He has lots of points to defend starting at Wimbledon

Hope he beats Mugraldo in Rome and shows his best tennis...He played much better in Madrid and seems to be getting some form back...Hope he keeps it going...C'mon Jerzy Jagger:dance::drink:

Thanks for the link, great interview! :D

If anyone is interested, JJ's father says Jerzy is healthy now and they have high hopes for Wimbledon.
Right now JJ practices in his hometown, they don't have any artificial grass courts there but they try to find fastest courts possible.
He also adresses the fact that youngsters on ATP are not consistent enough yet - JJ, Nishikori or Tomic can win with best but also lose to unknown players. The team is working on this but in the longer perspective - it means they expect Jerzy to be in Top10 in two years, mostly thanks to his unbelievable force and unconventional shot selection.
They're also finalising next year's exhibition match between JJ and Federer in Poland and they hope to set a new attendance record for a tennis match :)

Jerzy Interview

Q. I am doing a story about the serve, so I won't ask about the match but about your serve. Is the serve your favorite shot?

JERZY JANOWICZ: Not really, no. My favorite shot is forehand.

Q. With what mindset do you serve? To hit as many aces as possible? Set the point up? And what's the difference between first and second serve?

JERZY JANOWICZ: Most important for me is to get the point. Doesn't matter how if it's going to be ace. Doesn't matter how.

And difference between first and second serve is second serve I'm kicking mostly. The first serve is completely flat. Sometimes I'm slicing, but mostly it's flat serve.

Also depends the surface, yeah.

Q. And is the serve for powerful now on grass? Do you see advantages with your height?

JERZY JANOWICZ: Yeah, yeah. On grass it's a little bit easier to get some points on my serve.

But the most important for me is to have a good ball. That's the most important. I don't care about the surface, but the ball is the most important for me.

Q. You are one of the big guys serving, but you are also a returner. Who's the best server in the game for you?

JERZY JANOWICZ: The best server?

Q. Yes.

JERZY JANOWICZ: There is a lot of good servers. John Isner. Roger Federer is serving incredible because he's serving on the spots. There are plenty, plenty of players with a good serve.

Q. Last question from me. I'm from Switzerland, so can you talk a little bit more about Roger Federer's serve? Is it tough to read?

JERZY JANOWICZ: I played against Roger once in Rome, so I remember during the important points he was serving ace perfectly on the line. So this was quite annoying sometimes.

But, yeah, it's not easy to read his serve. Second of all, he has unbelievable second serve. He has great kick.

Depends on the timing or court?
On Center probably Djokovic and Murray will play and some WTA match. On court 1 I would say Berdych vs Tomic and maybe Del Potro's match but all of matches should be on televised courts so.. :p

On timing count on that Melzer has doubles match as well, though maybe it will be played on Tuesday only, no idea.

My name is Jamie and I live in Columbus, Ohio...I am finishing my second master's degree at the Ohio State University which I will be done with at the end of July...My second master's degree is in Middle Childhood Education (grades 4-9):yeah:

I have always wanted to visit Poland and even the screensaver on my laptop is a beautiful picture of Gdansk at night with the lights showing in the city streets

My sister's husband's business partner spent Thanksgiving with us in 2011 and it was so cool to talk to him about Poland and I asked him so many questions about the culture and I even learned some conversational Polish phrases so he would feel more at home during his visit:)

He had never been to "Thanksgiving" because they do not celebrate that in Poland...I told him what I had learned about the President of Poland and his plane crash and the fact that the former President of Poland was a twin...which is cool because I am a twin too...I told him how I follow tennis and he told me that Aga Radwanska was like a celebrity in Poland:haha:

I would love to visit one day and experience the culture, but like Joe, money is hard to come by when you are just a student working on your degree...

I really hope Poland wins the Davis Cup tie and makes it into the World Group...So many Polish firsts in tennis this year...It is very exciting and I am rooting very hard for Jerzy and Lukasz tomorrow to come through:cheerleader:

It's true Agnieszka is famous because she's one of the most accomplished Polish athletes but she isn't liked by everyone here mostly because of her political views...
As for Jurek & Lukasz if they make QF tomorrow this will be the news of the month haha Seriously everyone would write and talk about this but it'd be great for Polish tennis because it's still not that popular here. Why do I always assume that all the people on MTF are men? I mean I knew that Jamie's female, because she's been around for a while and I remember her posts in post-match threads after Jerzy's and Kubot's matches, but I never expected Literati to be female too.
